About that Lindberg D-type, is that a recent kit or an old out of production kit? -

Sorry to hear of your shop's demise. I guess we are blessed here in the Milwaukee area (I'm 18 miles away) as our LHS's seem to be doing well. Always busy and the two that I patronize, the one in particular sells other hobby things and has an art supply area that I use as well for my art supplies. The other shop has a internet presence. I guess it all comes down to smart marketing. I spoke with the owners of one shop and they say they are doing good. BTW, I always manage to purchase something when I visit because not buying would be like going to the club to hear a DJ or band and not buying drinks. -
I got one today from the hobby shop and I am going to work on this. I think the old Pyro molds have held up or Dave from Model king cleaned up a lot of mold work. It's molded in white plastic. There are chrome parts and clear. The tail light assembly is molded onto the body, so you will have to foil and paint the thing. The tyres are very small and devoid of any sidewall detail. Tread is ghosted onto the tyre, so it resembles a tyre with 70,000 miles on it. The parts box is your friend. Bare with me as my PC does not recognize my camera, and Photobucket is being recalcitrant. Kit is made in the USA so you can feel good about buying US goods if you are American. The kit comes in a pizza style box which I hate BTW, although this one stays closed when you close it. The chrome tree holds the bumpers, grille, muffler, exhaust pipe and header, valve cover, intake/carbs, air cleaner housing, two piece wheels, headlight buckets, roll bar, wheelie bar (why?), side pipes (again why?), and two unidentified scoop like things. The decal sheet has a lot of numbers to make any combination of race car numbers and also has three roundels for the numbers and three soft rectangles for larger numbers if you wanted to use them. Has some sponsor decals mostly of American companies like Champion and cragar, Fram, Valvoline, and Doug Headers. Why no Lucas or other British decals? Some door size banners are in there advertising some hobby shops with actual phone numbers...are these real shops? Several "TRIUMPH" decals are here as well as two sets of stripes, one in olive drab and the other, white. Other banners read "Triumphant GT-6", "Rantin' & Ravin' ", and "Cartastrophy". The clear tree has the wind screen, back light, and side and vent windows. The back light has defroster lines engraved and the wind screen has small wipers at the bottom edge. The headlight lenses are there as well. The Body! Oh such a body! This is a multi-piece body with opening doors and bonnet (hood). Don't fret, as this is the way the real body is constructed. This one would make nice additions to a resto-shop diorama. Chassis is separate and has a detailed suspension. Not as detailed as a newer kit but quite the kit in it's day. My original PYRO kit shows well next to this. The new kit is in white plastic as the old PYRO kit was molded in a weird dusty rose/brown color. Interior builds up platform style like new Revell kit. The two bucket seats with console is a one piece mold. The six cylinder engine is kind of chunky, but will look nice if some attention is given it. Has separate differential/drive shaft/transmission as a unit. One bad point is the windscreen opening is kind of smallish in that it has rather thick posts. The box art belies this, so be aware of this. I think I will file out the opening to improve the look and make a new windscreen. I am going to enjoy working on this and I was going to rip into the original PYRO kit, but when I heard this was coming out, I held off on that and a $70 dollar rarity was spared. I may still build that one anyway. I recommend this one for builders with a modicum of skill and a well stocked parts bin for some detail bits like the tyres, a fuel cap (kit's is molded to body) and some other bits. I would find a set of mini-lites for a better set of wheels, or maybe even wire wheels, although I don't know if the real one had them. Good building!

1/43 scale plastic model kit's?
lordairgtar replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Heller had a bunch of 1/43rd scale kits plus Monogram had that Corvette and Cobra as well. For something older, AMT had a line of 1/43rd cars. -
It's put together nicely. It's begging for some bare metal foil and some detail painting of the rims and tail lights. That should be on a shelf, not in storage!

Okay! Us VW folks can't WAIT for this!!
lordairgtar replied to MrObsessive's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
http://www.vwtypethree.com/myvws/index.html The link shows what a type three is, the square, slantback and notch. Those Ghias are called Type 34s actually. They are my favorite VW, along with the Type 3 Notch, and I'm with Bill on this one. It should be kitted. There are about four Type 34s in the area in which I live and one is a full blown drag car. I saw a beautiful Type 3 notch yesterday at the Volksbraten show yesterday in Sheboygan. -
Ha!! Love the chasis pic with your finger showing paint still on your digit...just like me. Just one tip...get yourself a big spray can of flat black primer or paint for the chassis. The brush marks detract from a clean assembly. On your next one, try and remove corporate trade marks too, makes for a cleaner look.

I've been here for quite some time, but SA members had some insight to new stuff coming along a lot quicker it seemed to me. I could be wrong, though, just my thoughts. I like Modeler's haven because of the quizzes. I will spend a considerable amount of time finding those cars. I like this place because it is like family, or Ohana as Gregg calls it. Not too thrilled with Hobby Heaven's site just because of the way the board is laid out. Some might find it quaint, but i find it annoying. My beef with SA is that I get these flags when I log on wanting me to redo my pass or user name. I should not EVER have to do that unless they had a problem with a server crashing or some such thing. I have not yet received an email from them yet, but I am sure one of their minions will do that soon enough. Being in the same metro area that Kalmbach is in, and that Mr Haught is a member of our local model club, I am sure my decision will soon come to bite me in the caboose. Too bad Kalmbach chooses not to give SA the same operating budget they give Model Railroader and Finescale Modeler, because it truly could be something good. Being really busy during the summer with my DJ business and car show art and the benevolent association I help out plus my crappy job, I really shouldn't have to jump through hoops to spend some leisure time online. -
yes, I have had it with the doo doo from that other model mag site. Every other month they request re setting the password or user name. And it doesn't work that easily. I emailed them to remove my account info from the forum and never bother me again with their lame site. Nothing works unless you go through hoops like posting links and such. I'm gone....I even deleted them from my tool bar. It's a shame because I like the people in the forums there.

Michael Jackson dead at 50
lordairgtar replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That self-named King Of Pop was nothing but a sicko perv. To call Jacko an eccentric would be soft peddling what he really was...a pedophile! Farrah a nobody? Please! That poster of hers sold better than any other poster, even Daisy Duke. Those of us males of a certain age had her poster on our bedroom walls. -
Modeller evicted
lordairgtar replied to lordairgtar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Every month, I go through anxiety during bill paying time. I was once looking for a house to buy and now I see that I in no way could manage that. I was sold on a sub prime loan and at least I figured it out that I had no business owning a house. I would have lost it as well. Not because I don't pay my bills, I do, but you just don't give home loans to people who make little money. I've paid off most of my debts and only have the car payment and a loan with 900 bucks left on it, so that will be gone by November. Some people cannot manage money. I was like that but I got better at it. It just took a very patient bank manager and my employer showing me how to budget and plan. It's still hard but I muddle through it. Now with my wifey's knee replacement today, I can see we are going down that road again. I sure hope Ted makes it out OK. -
Does anyone know this guy? Seems he got evicted out his life long home and thieves broke in and stole a lot of stuff but left the model cars. http://www.startribune.com/local/47167767....4O%20img%20src=

MCM May/June showed up today!
lordairgtar replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I live in the land of cheese and I've never heard that either. Pennyhead maybe refers to the Lincoln head on it? I saw the issue at my LHS today. Loved the steam shovel article and the double kit with the Heller/AMT connection. I have the Heller version of the Alpine which is on the workbench now and I wish I had the Gordini. -
Just a question, Harry. Did your old car seem that easy to use when you first got it? After nine years, your motions at the wheel are more or less trained. After your new car has a few miles under the belt, you'll wonder how you ever did without it. When I got my Mercury Marquis with a shifter on the column, I was grabbing the air around the floor because my hand was used to a floor shift. Now that I have a floor mounted shifter again, I'm always turning on my wipers when I start.

Pretty much boils down to corruption and greed. When the US auto industry collapses, who do you think the government will appoint to head a coalition task force to fix it? Politicians, ex-CEOs and Union bosses to guide the industry back.....and it will fail. These dealers are not really part of the industry as they really do not have control over what the auto companies do. The only way they will save their own bacon is to become independent dealers of used autos and lease the service area to companies that sell mufflers, brake service and tires, or speed shops. Consider also that these people who run the dealerships are also movers and shakers in the community (even the head of baseball, Bud Selig is a car dealer) and drive many foundations and charities that support varied groups that deal with poverty, health, research. Kill these dealer franchises and you affect the quality of life in so many communities, not just jobs but food pantries, homeless shelters, hospitals, the arts, and various outreach groups.
