I got a Cop Out funny car on clearance last week in a dusty corner of a hobby shop I haven't done many funny cars or dragsters but it was cheap and it's a Mopar so its my next build. I'm not real crazy about the "cop" theme of the car any resources for a make over would be helpful. Pictures of that era drag motor the 426 Hemi. Mostly colors, there is a lot of chrome to strip off of the motor parts. Things like correct motor colors plug wires I want to make a fairly detailed model.

We Had a lot of those trucks back in the day. We got rid of our last Superliner about 5 years ago . It had a Mack nine speed with a Mack 300 or 330 horse power motor. I cant remember what the engine was. We would pull 100,000 pound plus loads with of water with tankers out of the landfill with it. We called her Maserati She was no speed demon but it would pull those loads with a huge belch of black smoke. Before that we had all R models 600's I believe. A lot of 300 motors with 5 speeds hauling tankers. After the superliners came the Ch models now we have Visions. Most of our old stuff was tan interior and all of the super's were gunmetal same with our Ch models lots of 100% Mack stuff many gold dogs.Sad too say we may be switching to Freigtshakers soon. I have some fond memories of our old equipment.

Going Green and Aero

Nice looking build. Where did you find the pics of the green Walmart Pete's. Around here all I see are White Internationals We have a big warehouse about 60 miles from me and I have yet to see one. -
I think any R model interior will get you close I believe that 700 series is a heavy duty version of the R model I know brown(beige) was a popular. Every Mack I have driven has been the Gunmetal, Brownish Beige Tan with A steel dash. Our company in those day's was about function not form. A company truck might be plane Jane like ours an owner operator might go a little more fancy. http://stlouisdumptrucks.com/ConvoyMackTru...022-347x461.jpg http://www.macktrucks.com/default.aspx?pageid=210

First I love Mopar Muscle Cars, I like the roadsters as well Anything "old" flowing lines if that makes any sense. American Graffiti style rides. That was what i built as a kid. This minute I'm doing a 1971 GTX. I just been checking some of the links great info so far. My finger is killing me The first link is great Thanks a bunch. I found a Mack R model kit .Very cool! I have a soft spot for Mack since I drive one 5 day's a week.

I can tell I'm getting a little older. Its been a few years since my last model.between the ages of 9 and 19 I was building constantly I was never real good at the fine details I liked painting nice body's and undercarriages like we did in the body shop. I was good at basic engine details. Now 17 years later I'm doing some more modeling but the eyes and hands are not what they used to be. I have the patience now for the fine work just not a lot of know how. So if anyone has any resources of any kind. Links in the tread or anything websites. The quality of work I see on this forum is Staggering (no kidding!) A lot of the cars I have looked at are hard to tell from full size. I know to achieve the level some of you are at takes years. I know one tread can't make you a great modeler overnight just doing it and learning does. I just need some good links to references, how to articles tips anything. Any reply is much appreciated

Hobby horror story
mredzadventure replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ouch Man ! I deal with Hazardous Waste and Flammable stuff every day at work. Let me tell ya. Fumes are the worst ,any paint especially lacquer likes to go "BOOM" Any paint gun does a great job of atomizing the solvent base of the paint. Its as flammable as gasoline then. The safest bet any electrical appliance been used needs to be intrinsically safe Next time you run your shop vac look in the top you'll see the motors bushes doing a fine job and a nice blue spark. Also any time you pull vacuum or pressure through a hose you can get a static charge that's one reason when you see fuel tankers pull into the gas station they ground the trailer. The hoses do a pretty good job of eliminating this but things happen. Just ask EQ of Canton MI there whole facility was burned to the ground from an static discharge. Some of the stuff we deal with you need to wear suits so your over you cloths so there is no chance of a spark. That guy must have had a tone of paint flying through the air to touch it off. It probably filled the vac canister and the rest is history. I guess the lesson is paint is something to take serious. -
Thanks Dave I'm finishing up a Guillows Piper Cherokee Then I'm Staring my 71 I have some photo etched parts plug wires and heater hoses I have some more stuff to add. I really like Muscle cars Mopar especially. I love the Roadsters, T-buckets The late 50's flat paint, flames, white walls low Mercury's. American Graffiti vibe. Also Trucks or anything with good lines.

Its posts like this That makes you realize how small of a world we are spinning on. Go Saxons My dad does some body work when he wants to. We never got into racing to busy coming junk yards for parts. I moved here 11 years ago we love it here. Times are getting a little tough all of the major car dealers have closed up Ford, Chrysler,Chevy, Buick, All gone. But We are holding are own.

Well I guess this is a good a place to make an introduction. Lets see I'm located in the wilds of Michigan. I Grew up In the U.P. which has great weather in the winter for Skiing, Ice fishing, snowmobiling, Hauling fire wood and model building. My cousin got me started. when I was 9 or 10 A snap together Ferrari Magnum PI vintage. My dad had a part time body shop and my uncle restored old cars we also owned a bar/restaurant. I started full scale before my first model. I got up close and personal with a D/A sander at the tender age of 9 I watched my dad and uncle paint cars bang on bodies, Drag old junkers out of the north 40 woods to fix them up. I thought all dads had a frame straightener. I wanted to do what they did so I started with models. I kept up with cars and airplanes then rockets. I graduated to R.C. planes and trucks and cars electric and gas. Through the years I would try to build at least one model every so often. I had about 20 or 30 different ones all gone now. So after 11 years of marriage to 1 great gal 3 cool kids I guess I'm coming full circle. I sold my full scale 1971 road runner last year. The car was a dream my dad and I had to fix it up, but time money and geography were all problems. This Christmas My dad bought me a 1/24 1971 GTX. So I'm trying to do it right. I'm a little rusty but looking forward to the build. I have found a lot of great info on the forum so here I am. I have been fascinated with old cars and trucks since I was little also airplanes have a special place in my heart. Most any aviation really. Old cars and trucks are the closest thing to a time machine you can get. They drive just like they did in 1940 or 1950 etc. The look the feel the sound are all the same as they were years ago. Coming from a body shop background the look of the car (design) grabs me. I also love the detail from a modeling aspect engine interior etc some of the stuff you guy's (gals to) is incredible. Very cool.
