The Big One
mredzadventure replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Just to add to this. A wrecker will be subject to Hours Of Service regulations so the sleeper will give the company and flexibility on non emergency calls. If you have to tow something a long distance or if the job is taking a long time the driver can get the required time off in the bunk and stay legal. If they get hired for a repo job or moving a damaged truck back to a dealer that is a distance away they will be able to do it. The build is looking good I drive a tanker all day and it's coming together nice. -

Just a little tip from someone who has to wear a respirator for work. IF you have a beard or heavy mustache your respirator can be ineffective. You need a tight seal around your face. To test fit cover the both filters with your hands (like in the pic) and breath in. It should suck to your face a little bit. Now you know you have a good seal. Put your hand on the middle vent and breath out a little it should puff out a bit. Now you know the exhalation valve is working. Inspect the flaps on the inside and make sure they are not cracked. Check the gaskets on the filters. When you are done using it take a Alcohol wipe and clean it. The most important thing to do with your respirator is when not using it Seal it in an airtight bag. Once you open the filters they never stop working. If you leave it hang on the work bench the filters are absorbing anything that is opened or sprayed. Glue has fumes an open container of thinner has fumes or that quick spray job you just did. Those filters are working even though you are not pulling air through it. Check to make sure you have the right filters some will work for certain applications some will not . Read the label on the filter. Last but not least if you stick a respirator on your face and you have a hard time breathing because of a medical condition take it off right away. Breathing through a respirator makes your body work harder you could get into trouble really quick. The minute you feel light headed or have any trouble breathing take it off. If you are claustrophobic you may have a hard time wearing one it sounds silly but I have seen people in a panic when they have to put one on. What ever material you use make sure you have the right filters. -
What Ratio of glue to water do you use?

spray booth explosion

I work in the Hazardous waste industry and we load some very flammable waste loads. Methanol, Acetone, MEK, Octane and the like. Some things we worry about are proper grounding during loading and vapor recovery. A static discharge can ruin your whole year. I know of 2 HUGE explosions over the last 4 years that were caused by that. Vapors are nothing to take lightly. We will use a compressed Nitrogen blanket during the loading process and purge the tank before. A little mix in the vent will reduce the chance of a explosion. It might be something to think about if you are using an old bathroom fan. I'm not sure how much a bottle would be to get filled .Just an Idea. -
Pactra Acryl Paint Question
mredzadventure replied to Modlbldr's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I have used that paint for years on my R/C cars its great for that application it sticks good to Lexan and is flexible and nitro fuel resistant. I had an older bottle laying around so I let my boy spray his first car last night with an airbrush. I used rattle can Krylon primer and shot the paint thinned with some lacquer thinner. It was a little flat but it think some wet sanding and polish will help. Mine was the not the Acryl you might need a different thinner. When you paint a lexan body for an R/C car you paint the inside of the body. I never used a sealer or primer because the lexan bodies are clear. The paint covers great I have never used them with any other type of paint. But I have mixed and matched those brands with good results. The pearls are a nice color experiment a little for $1.00 you can't go wrong. This was for an R/C application but I think it will work good for you. -
Cool I was down to my last one.

Thank you for sharing your builds. I can't tell you how much I have learned from your post's. The craftsmanship I see here on this board shows me I have a lot to learn. But that to is part of the process. -

Welcome aboard! I don't post here much but I lurk constantly. There are some real craftsmen and artisans here. It's very cool to get a woman's perspective on model cars. I can show my daughters what the "girls" can do.. I plan on giving them each a kit to paint I'm sure it will be pink and have My Little Pony's all over it. -

The pilot is turning off of the runway on to the taxiway look at the tire see it smoking. See how it is almost flat the weight has been shifted either from taking the corner too fast or a huge gust of wind caught the airplane. I would suspect the latter. Any pilot worth his salt even private pilots know the taxi speeds. The flaps are full down I would say he/she had it configured for landing when they turning to exit the runway the wind got them and there hind ends grabbed some seat cushion. -
Resin Casting kit
mredzadventure replied to mredzadventure's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the replies this helps a lot. -
I would like to try my hand at casting some parts .Nothing fancy ,not for profit just for fun. I saw the Alumilite kit for $70.00. That's is a hunk of money. Is it worth the expense? I would like to cast engine parts, suspension parts maybe some interior stuff nothing real complicated. I'm getting back into the groove after a 15 year break. any help s appreciated.

I'd rather look at the fuzzy dice then that stupid set of "Nuts" People have been hanging from the bumper hitch. The chrome ones add a real touch of "class"

I have about 13 years driving the last 9 in a Mack. F-liners are cheaper, you can get them fixed anywhere. They have a little bit better fuel economy. Mack is suited for our industry. We haul Haz waste in tankers we also run roll off. We run the 350/380 a lot of Mack nine speeds and Eaton 10-13 speeds. We all have wet kits for vac work. My CH never let me down over 500k and all that was replaced was an Air dryer and alternator. I have a 2006 Vision day cab now and I like it 350 with a 10 speed. I can gross 50,000 lbs in a taker and still be legal. It has a longer wheel base then the older stuff and it rides nice. I wont break any speed records . When ya haul flammable slow and steady wins the race. I don't like big BOOMS. I think you will see Mack fade from the "Freight" Market and focus on their Utility market since Volvo Owns them now. Mack's brand of garbage truck fire truck, are popular. Heavy haulers here in Mi (We can gross 160,000) use Mack for Tankers Gravel trains you name it. The Mack Granite series is a popular roll off truck also They will be here for awhile.

Here are 3 of our old ones we have the new Vision series now. My old one is in front. Two of them have the Mack 350/380 engine All have Mack rear ends. One has a Mack 400hp engine (I think its a 380 turned up) all have Eaton transmissions two are 10 speeds one is a 13 speed. All with wet kits. Sad to say After 30 + years of using Mack we are switching to Freightliner
