  1. Hitting the road in an hour or two with the the big, blue van ... gonna try for 85 on the Thruway down but if anyone sees a blue fender on the road, please pick it up. I'll have some emergency CA.
  2. Looking VERY good!
  3. Thanks everyone for the comments. Tomorrow I'm driving it, rust and all, to NNL East ... gonna try for 85 on the NY Thruway! If you see any pieces of blue on the road please pick up and look me up in Wayne!
  4. This turned me on to Vinyl Nation and I tried a few of their narrow whitewalls I need for a VW I'm building. Too bad they don't list dimensions, but I could guess from the tires they fit that were listed.
  5. Not a better place to spy on .. and see how it's done RIGHT!
  6. I've been following all along and will be looking for it in Wayne ... looks like you might make it! .. Beautiful!
  7. I know you can find some online . maybe Model Car Garage, but can't guarantee there. In the meantime, this has come up often here and here's a few links with ideas on making them, They are pretty easy to do .. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36151 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63525
  8. Sure sounds like a question needing photos.
  9. I don't really care, but white or light gray are nice for showing bodywork ... until the first primer coat changes everything anyway. Red and yellow I don't like.
  10. I currently have two active builds on the bench, but that has never stopped me from starting something new before. Of course, it's a car I owned ... a 1969 VW Bug. When I decided to go back to school 14 hours away in Angola, Indiana I could see that my stereo speakers would never fit in my TR4A so I got the bug. Here's the 1:1: I did some minor mods consisting new 5.5" rims with tires and an EMPI extractor exhaust system. For a couple years I've been looking for items I would need to do this right. I'm starting with the Tamiya 1966 Volkswagen 1300Beetle as I never built one and it's such a nice kit ... engine and all. I did my wife's '68 VW and scratchbuilt the new style bumpers on that. I since found the bumpers in an IMAI Volkswagen 1303S Beetle kit. This kit also had decent 68-69 tail lights. Looking at the '68 I did see it has correct rear lid for a '68 but the front is the '67 it's supposed to be .. it's a Hasegawa Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 (1967) kit. I have looked but never found adequate exhaust pipes so I will have to build those from solder. When looking at the 69 I realized the hood and engine lid were reshaped with flat bottoms to clear the new bumper. With both pieces opened in the Tamiya I had to opportunity to do this easily. I started sanding the engine cover but found the Revell VW Street Machine kit had the proper lid. Even though it is a smaller scale (1/25) it fit the 1/24 Tamiya well. It will just need some strips along the edges to fit perfectly and the shape is better than the modified old lid would be. The front lid will still need some body work as seen in these photos.
  11. That's what I'll do, George. There's room to adjust it some with a bit of grinding, prying and pulling. I'll just do what I can without spiting the headlights.
  12. It was a bit expensive, but I wanted to try their spray as I've gotten paint for many of my builds of my 1:1 cars from them and was always pleased with the quality.. Just get a bottle of touch-up paint and stuff in your air brush.
  13. Modelhaus makes another save!
  14. Glad to see you found a treasure, but just the mention of Angola brought a rush of memories back to me. I was there in the early 70's going to Tri-Stare ... I know .. it has a stupid name now! I'm a New Englander thru and thru but a Hoosier on the side. We used to go out to Pokagon Park just for a taste of pine trees. I also got married while there so it Angola has a special place in my heart.
  15. The green paint is pretty official .. I got it from paintscratch.com. It's a 1981 color only. I got it in a spray can for the first time and was happy with the results. It's called Light Seaspray Green Metallic color code VF2 (1981) I usually get a bottle ans have to thin it down for the air brush, but since I hate airbrushing because of the hassle I did the spray .. first time I've seen them offer it.
  16. I'm getting too old and stiff of body to travel much anymore. Luckily, the NNL East is in the town my brother-in-law lives (Wayne, NJ) so that 3 hour trip south is no biggie, And my son lives just another hour south so I get to see the grandkids the next day. It would be nice to see further away shows, but I'm happy that the largest one in the country a trip away I can handle and also get to see family at the same time
  17. Must be a '63 ... I thought I stopped building by that time .. I would have been 17 in '63. Good to hear the firewall "appeared". If I had the Riv still, I would cut the hood out for ya.
  18. Now I remember why I bought a couple 356 kits .. those beautiful rims!!
  19. Sorry to hear about the hood and firewall ... hopefully someone can step up with one. Now, just for fun and Riv it up .. at 12 I was just coming off a lot of OD armor when AMT appeared ... and this wasn't that long afterward ... I'm not sure what year this is but it's original issue and looks similar to your yellow one at the rear and roof.
  20. Woot, Charlie ... good to see you on the bench! A Riveria .. I did one of those in the early sixties ehhe. Was probably an AMT Annual, but it sure wasn't yellow! Hope you can get the body all cleaned up.
  21. Woot, Charlie! Good to see ya at the bench! So, a first gen Riveria. I did one that was most likely an annual kit . like maybe in the early sixties. It sure wasn't yellow, though! Hope you can get all th ebody gunk cleaned off.
  22. It was way too shiny to be real. Only us model fanatics rub paint out that much!
  23. Here's a shot of the grill and headlight backing it mounts to. I'd rather not separate the headlights into two pieces, but not totally opposed. Going to have to contemplate the pros and cons in my mind. Here's a shot from the 1981 Reliant brochure and shows the grill well. And, here's a shot of the 1: with my daughter mounted on it. Hopefully the other photos she says she has will let me scan and make decals for the stickers.
