It's hard finding the C6R at all...Time to start thinking about the next purchase. I saw tamiya is releasing a lesser known (to me at least) version of the Mazda 787B. This is the blue and white version. The better known(again, to me) versions are selling for near triple digits on ebay, which so far is the only place I can find them. Then again if there is a new version being released soon this tells me I should maybe start thinking about another kit which is getting difficult to find. Any suggestions? Fun research: Blue and white first version raced. It was the 787. The LeMans winning entry was the familiar green and orange, the 787B. While that one is special, I'm more looking for variety on the shelf than a particular livery. It's not that actual piece of matter that won the race, so the 787 is cool with me.

Well looks like after some researching around and getting a feel for the market I decided on my first purchase: An Alfa Romeo 155 DTM kit. I wanted the Martini version as I preferred the rims and livery over the Jagermeister or the Red ones, but price and most of the sellers listing bad decals drove me away. I know that rims and decals can be had elsewhere so I just got the Jagermeister kit. 50 bucks, free shipping and still factory sealed. I felt like prices would only go up so why not pull the trigger.

Tamiya Paints - hard to get
seanyb505 replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So after swinging by the local store yesterday they said that all Tamiya paints have been sent back overseas...Should I go back and tell them it's cool to reorder? -
So I've finally found a way to justify spending $40-50 on whatever I want within reason per month - time to start building my model inventory! You'll notice there are no muscle cars and most of the stuff is foreign. I've already got 20 or so mopars, so that genre is covered. The answers I'm looking for here are: 1) Which brand kit to buy of any particular subject - are they worth the extra money? I've read thread on different Ferrari kits, for example. Chime in with your two cents! 2) Are any of these kits just plain bad and to be avoided? I've chosen subjects I'm interested in, but are any of these just not worth the certain frustration? 3) Are any of these kits getting to be really rare enough that I should consider purchasing a particular kit first? I have no set order I'll be getting them in, so if I may lose out by waiting to long I'd like to avoid that. I know a few are out of production and I couldn't really find them online - Audi R10 and Corvette C6R for example. Any other suggestions are welcome! If you think I may be missing out on a particular subject let me know! For some subjects I have multiple versions/liveries in mind, hence the number to the right. Aston Martin DBS – 2 Audi R8 -2 Audi R10 – out of production? BMW Z4 GT3 – 2 Corvette C6R -2 out of production? DTM - At least 3 Mercs, 2 Audi, Alfa Ferrari 430-2 458 -2 599 599gto Enzo - 2 F40 – 2 F50 Jaguar E-Type Jaguar XJR9 – getting expensive JGTC/SGT kits - several Lamborghini Aventador Countach Gallardo Murcielago Lexus LFA Lotus/Caterham Seven Mazda 787 - getting expensive McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Mercedes AMG SLS Mercedes CLK-GTR Mercedes McLaren SLR - 2 Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Nissan R390 -2 Nissan R89C Nissan Skylines - R32-R35 Porsche 911 GT1 Porsche 911 GT2 Road Version Porsche 911 GT2 Taisan Porsche 911 GT3R – 3 Porsche 935 Martini Porsche 935/78 Martini Porsche 959 – 2 Porsche 961 Porsche 962 Porsche Boxster -2 Porsche Cayman – 2 Porsche Carrera GT Toyota 88C Minolta Toyota GT-One Sauber Mercedes C9

Looks awesome. What wheel/tire package did you use?

Absolutely Fantastic subject. That car is one of the only positive aspects of that class. What paint did you end up using? I would think that Viper Snake Skin Green would be close.

Revell Kit Announcement at today's Hobby Show
seanyb505 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
In regards to the Camaro, the body kit is a dealer option. Im going to say those pieces are the optional parts. -
Looks great so far! Im currectly working on a similar project so Im interested to see how this turns out!

Has anyone seen LeMans style rims and slicks?
seanyb505 replied to seanyb505's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Found what I needed searching ebay: Looks like what I need - center lug and slick included! I guess these are my best option at the moment. And after some research it seems the manufacturer isnt casting anymore... the sense of urgency is strong... -

Wow that's an awesome selection! But holy pricey! I know there isn't a lot of demand for it and it's probably high quality, but I'm not sure I can justify spending more on the wheels than I will on the rest of the kit altogether! If I hit the lottery I'll be all over that site. Thanks! -

I was holding one of those the other day at the LHS. They use a single spoke design rather than the BBS rims pictured above. I was quite tempted anyway due to the decals. The revell C6R will have the 24hr race decals, but since Im going for something raced stateside in the ALMS, it's not quite there. Close, but so far. I was unaware that I could order wheels and tires from Tamiya. I will look into that. -
Im super dissappointed. Its 85% carryover from GT4. Less tracks, more inclusion of duplicates and not enough variety. There around around 65 Skylines in the game. Menus are cumbersome, and there is significantly less content than in previous games. Definitely the most beautifully modeled of the series, just too much fluff. No longer the definitive automotive playground when compared to previous versions of the series. From what Ive seen, you dont need lisences to progress through the game. I guess I was expecting more game, not more Nissans.

Desktop or screen saver? My desktop (and ultimate goal) is this: Screen saver is a slideshow of a folder with about 2000 pictures of exotics, musclecars, racecars, vintage, performance, modern etc... cars. No sedans, and no ricers. Just awesome testosterone-inducing high res pictures of cars Ive right-clicked-saved over the years. I could spend hours watching it cycle.

Only did one this year. Which sadly is more than last year. But I did buy a junkload more so I suppose that will make up for it...someday. Anyway, Revell's Dodge Ram VTS

1970 Challenger Convertible, Slant 6 Build
seanyb505 replied to ian ashton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It does the same on my Jeep Cherokee with a I6. The only reason I can think of it the brake and fuel lines are on one side, the exhaust is on the other side. It makes sense that I shouldnt want the exhaust to heat the brake and fuel lines up. Everything is looking great! I like the way you inserted some vertical plastic to create the hood crest. -
Looks great! Ive always liked road versions of race cars - that way you can see the lines of the car more clearly as they arent muddled by graphics and different paint schemes.

Where do you find your reference pictures?
seanyb505 replied to Mr. Show's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I suppose it depends on the auction format used, but I was able to save a few pictures just the other day from ebay. -

Ive been using ebay for a Stealth Im building. Most average cars are listed eventually. I save pictures since auctions only last a week. For more enthusiast or historic cars I use supercars.net. It's hit or miss, but they have huge galleries for a junkload of cars. If I still cant find it I'll start looking up specialty car brokerages. Those types of places that specialize in original, numbers matching vehicles. High end auction houses are also great for finding accurate cars. Stuff like Barrett Jackson and the like. -
Thats truly phenomenal. Great subject too! I loved watching this build

Im looking at purchasing one of the AMT Super Bee Prostreet kits. I see there are two (one released in 1992 and one in 2005) and the older is more expensive. Other than the color of the car, it looks like the 92 kit and the 05 kit build the same car. Are there any differences large enough to warrant one kit over the other? If this needs to be spliced into the other super bee thread about tubs thats fine. I didnt want to highjack someone else's thread with my nonsense. Thanks!

Has anyone used frisket paper? (sp?) I have a few sheets but havent needed any fine detail two toning yet.
-
I dont think you can do that car without the white wheels. I was holding a GTX at the hobby store yesterday but ultimately put it back. After seeing your inspiration I got a little of my own. What wheels are you using?
-
I believe Dencon resins offers a back half of the chassis. This seems to me to be the best way to avoiding wasted kit parts when all you want is one piece.
-
Project looks great! Do you happen to know the exact diameter of those wheels? Ive been eyeing that set for a while now.

Stalled projects; we all have them.
seanyb505 replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Right when I got my second model when I was 8 my dad told me, "Only do one at a time, or you will never finish them." I'm proud to say I have no stalled projects, and work in alphabetical order so as to not show favoritism, or avoid building a particular kit. If I get an idea for a certain build I write it down on my master build list. Having said that, Dave that is a very large collection; I counted around 80 including background cars. You seem to enjoy mockup, but painting throws you off lol. Get to working!
