Monogram switched over to 1:25 for its American subjects in the early '90's- I'm not sure how it is Revell determines their skill level system. It seems to have more to do with parts count than actual difficulty of assembly. I haven't built many Tri-Five Chevy kits, but these newer Monogram-branded kits have never given me any trouble.

#170 IS A TOUR DE FORCE
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a piece in 170? That's news to me. -
International Fleetstar
Chuck Most replied to daniel gailloux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Good start! Never saw too many Fleetstars used as plow trucks in my area (lots of Loadstars though), so this should be really interesting. -
I won't post a link to it here, as there's some very R-rated stuff in the list, but #9 is tame, and hobby-related. Just Google 'cracked the 13 most disturbing vintage ads for household products' if you want to see the rest. Here's the ad: And the description from Cracked.com... The Message: Hey kids! Check out these sweet model kits! The Horror: There's only one possible scenario in which this picture could have come to exist: The photographers were getting ready to shoot this ad when they realized that the boy who was supposed to be holding up the models in the picture never showed up for work. Panicking, the man from the ad agency looked around the studio. "Dmitri, can you come here for a second?" he said to the guy who fixes the lighting. "Stand here and hold this model. Yes, that's great. You'll play the boy in this ad." "But sir," said the photographer, "Dmitri was just released from jail. In fact, he's still wearing the prison jumpsuit." "No, no, he's perfect. Look at him. Look at that childlike innocence in his face."

Trying to get a master for resin casting finished, but I won't say what it is or who will be casting it. (Though I will say it's not a '57 Chevy and I'll not be the one casting it.)

" Lying Naked In The Road "
Chuck Most replied to CadillacPat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Randy Travis? What year is this, 1990? -
I'll have to try that once I get a new airbrush. I used acrylic clear this time hoping humidity wouldn't effect it as much. And I was right, to an extent, but it still blushed in spots. Last time I was on International's site I didn't see the configurator- thanks for the link! Seems like there are actually a couple shades of yellow to pick from for the 1:1 LoneStar.

Jeep Gladiator
Chuck Most replied to Gluhead's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'll most certainly be keeping an eye on this- one of my long-running projects is building the Jeep driven by Earl Basset (Fred Ward) in the first two Tremors movies. You are very right about the proportions to the grille on the Revell kit- might be too narrow, might be too tall, might be both. That being said, still love this subject, and this kit! -
Looks great! There must be something about Finnish teenagers- those guys build some great looking models!

It might go on a few more short breaks before it's finished, but I've pretty much committed to finishing this one before I start much work on my custom Transtar model, so I'm hoping it won't take forever. Between that and getting supplies for it, I'd like to realistically have it done by fall. Guess we'll see how that turns out.

I know this one's been stalled for a while, but a couple of days back I managed to get the majority of the frame done, and painted. I used semigloss black, but it came out quite splotchy in a few places- guess the humidity was a bit worse than I'd assumed. It's been raining the last two days now, so I'm hoping by the time it's over it will be dry enough to try again... or build an ark, whichever seems more important at that time. Non photodocumented progress- engine halves are together, and I'm cleaning up some mold lines on the turbo piping and some of the exhaust parts in preparation for paint. I'm also toying with ditching the aero rocker cladding and going with exposed tanks. We'll see aboot that, I guess.
-
Chassis is done- aside from the mods needed to the frame and exhaust to accomodate a Lincoln 430 engine (more on that later), it is build just as Revell intended. Might be able to get it just a little bit lower, but if not I do like the OOB stance. Not the best pic, but you can judge for yourself. Also- I might use the kit Lake pipes, so it shouldn't be rocker-scraping if you want to run those, and I want to leave my options open at this point.
-
I'm with Bill on the Mini variant theory, but I don't think it's an Innocenti- I've never seen one of those with those tall, narrow panes in the C-pillars. EDIT- Looks like Rob found the culprit as I was posting my response.

USERS LIST ADDITIONS?
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ah. Spider-bots, then. -
Other than not having any chrome on the window trim, still looks pretty good.

USERS LIST ADDITIONS?

My guess? Spambots. -
Speaking as the devil on Skip's shoulder, to Cato's angel. .... Yes... but it's that 5% that gives the model a story, and sets it apart from others like it. From the years it has lasted to the wrath of the cleaning lady, this model tells most certainly a story.

I'm actually suprised at how 'minty fresh' it looks, considering how long ago it was built. Kind of looks like a 1:1 that's been in storage for a few years awaiting a light cosmetic resto.
-
I've built about a half dozen of these kits, and I'm still hoping one will come out this nice.

Bertha, the White 9064
Chuck Most replied to Tyson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Even better! Forgot there was more than one short-nose White in the movie. I'm going to to the 'Green Goblin' Western Star one of these days. -
Sorry, but I've only finished one. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58359&st=0 Second one is underway but stalled- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58721
