Mopar early B body 4 doors?
Chuck Most replied to realgone58's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The '68 JoHan kit (just finished one a few days ago, if I may say so ) is a C-body, all '65 and later full size Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth models were. So depending on how 'early' you're defining it, pretty much any 1962-64 Mopar product aside from the compacts would be considered a B-body. So far, everything that's available with regards to four-door B bodies that I can think of has already been mentioned. I think the R&R kit might be a Belvedere- they also do a '67 Fury, but I have never personally had my hands on either one. As an aside- 1964 and earlier 'fullsize' B-body Mopars (which weren't fullsize compared to Ford and GM's fullsize lines, really) are sometimes incorrectly reffered to as C-bodies. The C body designation did not come about until the arrival of the new 1965 fullsize line. -
Traditional hot rod engines in 1/24th?
Chuck Most replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Monogram Orange Hauler had a Nailhead V8, but someone will have to refresh my memory- from what I remember, it was a bit on the simplified side. -
Nah- just find a rust-free Satellite and throw a few Road Runner bits on it. Then sell it for a premium. Again, very nicely done.

Yeah- I have a real '67 4-door out in the garage... pretty sure I can figure out the differences. Also- interior tub in this kit is for a 2-door, JoHan apparently couldn't be bothered to add rear window cranks or door handles.

I bought this kit as a parts donor years ago- the engine was long gone, the hood was sealed shut with epoxy, and some iffy bodywork had been done to it. I wanted to build it into a lookalike of my '67, to see how that might look when the restoration is done. Instead, I made it look more like my 1:1 in its current state... several shades of primer and rust! My 1:1's interior is still the original 'cool mint' green, but when it is redone it will be red, and the car will eventually have a nice paint job, so I guess this might represent the car in some future 'in progress' state. I pretty much threw the car together last night, because it was pretty clear I wasn't going to sleep. The wheels and tires are from AMT kits, and I lowered the car a bit by drilling the axle holes up higher. Not my finest effort, but for a 12-hour, single-sitting build, not too shabby, and I'm really happy with how it looks. The next one will be converted to '67 specs and I'll actually go for 'replica' status!

Many of them were reissues of common kits, done in a different color (such as the '29 Model A pickup), while others I have never seen issued in anything other than Hot Rod brand box art (Lincoln Mark VII LSC). The Hot Rod series was also the only reissue for the Mickey Thompson Attempt I... a kit I think is WAY past overdue for a reissue. Two supercharged Pontiac Tempest slant fours and a very nice Dragmaster chassis? Don't mind If I do!

best fitting kit?
Chuck Most replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hard to beat Revell's series of '32 Fords as far as good fit goes. One stipulation is this- building a version with fenders might be a bit more of a challenge than doing one as a Highboy, because fit of the fenders to the body and frame is a bit tight, but other than that, I've never had one of those kits fight me. -
White Freightliner build
Chuck Most replied to EmeryvilleCOE's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Agreed- that would really help the looks of the front end. Wonder if anybody does a photoetch grille insert for these kits...? -

I'm perfectly happy with waiting a year or two if it means the best possible quality. Haven't even finished my first Lonestar and I've already got more than a handful of ideas for this one. -
That and they're awfully chunky-looking, at least to my eye. Best thing about those MRC hop up sets are the wheels... and those ever-useful adapters.

1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z Inspired build.

Brace yourself... I built it long before I really knew what I was doing! And here it is with an '83 Charger I did up in a similar manner later- -
Working on making these... Resemble this... For use on something like this...

MAN Trucks in the USA?
Chuck Most replied to RDean58's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I wouldn't rule anything out- Iveco is thinking of reentering the US market (if they haven't already). Iveco trucks used to be fairly common up here in my area. Quite a few of them in the junkards too, now that I think of it... MAN trucks seem to have a pretty good reputation, known even outside thier home market, so who knows? I don't see trucks like this geared toward the independent owner/operator market, though, I have to agree with the assessment that they'd more likely be geared toward big fleets more foucused on economy than making a visual impression. -
Drag City Casting '36 Ford truck grille
Chuck Most replied to Chuck Most's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
True- though the '36 wasn't quite twice as thick front to back (it was 3" deeper, for the reason of fitting a larger rad as you mentioned). Another fun fact to consider- the 1935 and 1936 Ford Pickup and Commercial truck grilles were different from each other- the lower 'lip' on the commercial piece was a bit more rounded, to meet up better with the larger fenders used on the 1-ton and heavier trucks. -
^Exactly.

A model car will never be driven, never have to operate upon public roads, etc., so in some cases I am willing to let a few details slide. Hey... I've never seen a 1:1 car with a big hole in the engine block and a big metal axle going through it, or the front and rear suspensions and exhaust done as one piece with the chassis, but I see quite a few models done that way.

how much research do you do?
Chuck Most replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on the subject. On the rare occasion I'm trying to duplicate an actual vehicle, I'll go all out on researching it. But most of the time I just kind of play it by ear, and go by what 'feels' right. -

Loved seeing this one go together, love seeing the end result. -
I think the orange and silver one Wayne posted was the one from SA- I've been looking around for the specific issue, but can't seem to find it in my stash.
