  1. Diggin' that compact 8-volt battery!
  2. Nice.
  3. Meh... don't care much for hobby 'chain stores'. Then again, I'm fortunate enough to live pretty close to what has GOT to be one of the best full-line hobby shops in the country, Hulings Hobby House- And this is a very small selection of his inventory. I'm also not to far from Dean's Hobby Stop... THAT place is a trip.
  4. Me likey very, very, VERY much! One of my favorite 1:1 cars and one of my favorite kits. I wasn't really digging the wire wheels at first, but the more I look at them the more I like them.
  5. Not sure how a shark car is supposed to sell cigarettes, but hey, the model it inspired is cool indeed.
  6. They did exactly that with the Circus Wagon (nee Dragon Wagon)- later on, it was retooled into the Hangman, but the old Dragon Wagon parts were recreated to bring it back to its original form.
  7. AMT's Merc could be built factory stock... with a chop, channel, and a more than a few custom body mods (not to mention a Cad mill and custom interior), the same cannot be said for Revell's take on the subject. The only thing AMT and Revell's Mercs have in common is the year and make. As far as the '58's- for me personally it's kind of a draw- there are things I really like and things I'm not so hot about with both versions. I really think the '69 Nova was a fantastic idea- it's pretty clear the AMT '72 tooling is about one more reissue away from being totally shot, and I don't think it would have been a job for RC2 (at the time) to have tooled up a new Nova. I do think Revell is missing the boat by not doing a modern-tool '68 or '69 Chevelle, especially considering there is so much room for improvement with the AMT kits. And of couse, a '68/'69 Chevelle kit could beget a pretty nice 1:25 '70 somewhere down the road, and '70 is a must-have year for many Chevelle nuts. Yeah, AMT and Monogram already make '70 Chevelle kits but, again, plenty of room for improvement, and don't try telling me a newly tooled version wouldn't be a strong seller.
  8. I might be in... just a matter of digging out the right parts.
  9. Shaping up nicely! Now I just need to get off my keister and get back at my own AMCs.
  10. I'd snub them and just not show up.
  11. Kind of left out one detail- not sure if I'll have enough room for a belly-mounted mower under the running boards- might need to go with some diabolical-looking sickle bar mower. Then again, still needs a drawbar... what's a tractor without a drawbar????
  12. The flares are separate on every D50 kit I've ever gotten my hands on.
  13. I'm literally just starting my first one, still in the 'parts gathering' stage at this point...
  14. You know... I have a good mind to go out and do exactly that!
  15. I know for a fact the AMT '63 Galaxie kits have those.
  16. Not faster. Quicker, maybe- but once a Ford was up to speed, ain't no way a Chev is touching it. (And we aren't even gonna get into gear ratio differences, etc.) Stovebolts were pretty good marine engines, though. My uncle had one in his boat. Says it was the best anchor he ever had.
  17. You can tell it's a rerun... Charlie Harper isn't dead yet.
  18. I was going to crack wise about that back window, but somebody always has to beat me to it...
  19. The white toolchest, the two white air wrenches, and the jack.
  20. It's a mix of Monogram and Fujimi, with a little bit of AMT stuff tossed in. The Monogram stuff came with a tandem-axle car hauler.
  21. Sad that this is practically in my backyard and I have yet to attend. Guess I'll be checking out that link!
  22. Just out of my head ideas. The hood was sort of inspired by late '50's Ford and Minneapolis-Moline pieces, as far as the shape goes. The color scheme is stolen from an old Scott lawn seeder- I always liked the look of the dark green with orange trim Progress report for today... I added a decal ammeter, and used a photoetched surround. I also used some scrap photoetch pieces to make an ignition key and a throttle lever. The 'Caution' decal is from a Moebius Hudson Hornet. For the engine... I used one from a glue-bomb MPC Wheel Horse, and converted it to a vertical shaft type. The muffler is about the only unmodified kit part on the engine. I still need to add a starter/generator, and yes, that's another Caution label from a Moebius Hornet on the left side of the block! Waste not, want not, right? And finally... Filled in the grille opening with mesh... possibly a scrap of NASCAR window net, but I'm not totally sure what it was 'supposed' to be- I just used it.
