Revell COPO Nova & SS Nova
Chuck Most replied to Wildrice's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Copo has a bench seat, plain 1969 grille and taillamp panel, in addition to what Casey described. It also has a flat hood (the SS and cowl hoods are not included), but the SS buckets and grille are still included in the COPO kit. -
Well, dug out a long-forgotten project earlier today... or was that late yesterday...? Whatever. Here it is- This is a 1932 Datsun roadster. The body is a Revell Germany BWW 2/15 Dixi, which was produced by BMW in Germany under licence to Austin... it was basically a duplicate of the Austin 7, which was sort of like England's Model T Ford. But here's the thing... the design was also copied and produced, illegally, by Datsun in Japan. Since I had the Fujimi Parts Pack Nissan S20 DOHC inline six, I used that for power. The frame is scratchbuilt, as are the floor pan and interior bulkheads. The steering wheel and now non-existant Racing Mate decals also came from that parts pack. I wasn't happy with the paint on this, and when I got to looking, the passenger's side door (left in this case as the car will be RHD). So I stripped it and redid both doors. While I was at it, I also made up a new floor and drivetrain bulge, and a new dashboard. I'm thinking I will run a track nose off a Revell Midget up front, but nothing is carved in stone. Should have some updated pics soon.

MPG estimates vs. reality
Chuck Most replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Another fun little tidbit....The average American walks about 900 miles a year. The average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means the average American gets about 41mpg. -
Question about AAR Cudas
Chuck Most replied to imatt88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have one of these kits... for parts. I'm planning on making a somewhat more accurate '70 AAR using the decent parts off of this kit with a Monogram '71 Hemi 'Cuda. -
Not exact, but it'll do.

AWESOME! If you do sent this out to be cast, I can guarantee I'll buy one.

Maybe Chevy is just depressed. You know, the whole bankruptcy thing and all... -
1/24 Revell '55 Chevy Street Machine
Chuck Most replied to ZombieHunter26's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Makes me wonder if they'll bring back the Aurora, Advent, Renwal, and Hubley brand names and start slapping those on every random reissue. Hobbico? It's called BRAND MANAGEMENT. -
I SHOULD hate this car. I love the Cord, not so much a fan of the Vette. Seeing the two melded together should disgust me. But you know what? I'm really liking the way this one is coming together. Even though this is a totally different design, it kind of reminds me of Joel Dirnberger's Shark, a narrowed Sting Ray Vette body on bobbed '32 Chevy fenders. (For those who don't recall that one, it's the blue machine in the lower right corner- http://www.joeld.net/home.shtm ). Maybe it's just the unexpected synergy of elements from two entirely different automotive eras working so well together. I don't know what it is, but I like it.

1/24 Revell '55 Chevy Street Machine
Chuck Most replied to ZombieHunter26's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I really wonder why Revell slaps their name on the old Monogram stuff, especially when they have the newer-tool, and much better, 1:25 Tri-Five kits out under the Revell name as well. Wait... those started out as Monogram kits, too. Really wish they'd make up their minds. I have to wonder how many inattentive modelers bought one of these expecting the mid '90's era kit. -
1960 Ford F250 4x4
Chuck Most replied to modelmonster's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Those are the correct images for the grille for each year. The information is off on the interiors. The dash on the left is the standard cab, the one on the right is the Custom Cab. My dad and grandfather both own 1966 models- my grandfather's is a base model and has the dash as seen in the left photo, while my father's Custom Cab has the dash seen in the right photo. 1965 models were the same way, but I can't vouch for the '64 and older trucks. -

Man, if I didn't live all the way across the country- I'd have gladly taken it off her hands. http://www.motorcityresincasters.com/ -
Ah... one of my favorite bodies from Mr. Andrew O. Martin. Me likey.

Well... there is one modeler on this site whose work I admire- spkgibson, aka Steve Ketterer. He and I are both customers of Dean's Hobby Stop in Flushing, Michigan, and he and I were both there at the same time, although I did not realise it until I posted my purchase from that day in the "What did you get today" thread and he responded saying he saw me buy it. So while I technically haven't met him, I have been in the same building with him at least once. Yeah, that's about all I've got.
-
Yep. That's what I'll be doing all day (or at least all evening) Saturday.
-
This is what I WILL be working on all day Saturday in all likelyhood... a flathead Olds Straight 8.

Fred Cady quit making decals six or seven years back, but he still makes a few sets upon request when he feels like it. So, never say never, I guess. I do hope someone will pick up the product, even if it is in a limited form. I LOVE the 'Mom and Pop' line of decals from Slixx.

1953 Hudson Handyman
Chuck Most replied to Chuck Most's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Ah... right! The color is Krylon Hunter Green, straight out of the rattle can. Slick, exotic stuff, that Krylon. -
Oh- one other thing- the 'Twin H Power' lettering on the decklid looks like it might get lost under a few coats of primer and paint, but so far I've had pretty good luck not gunking it up. I like to apply foil to it first, before primer and paint (and clear if applicable) then gently polish the area to expose the foiled lettering.

You might be onto something there, actually. The last hobby shop in my area that carried Slixx decals was selling them for what amounted to a 60% discount off list price for many years- just before he closed up shop (it was kind of an 'evenings and weekends' operation for the owner, not his main income source) he was giving them away with a model kit purchase, and from what I hear, toward the end he was just plain giving them away. He had quite a few 'outdated' sets. Last time I was in there I bought a Revell Dodge Intrepid stock car kit, and he let me have the Slixx sheet for the #22 Cat Diesel car for free with the kit. His theory was this- since many of the current sheets were for NASCAR racers, and those cars change schemes and livery so often, it made the existing sheets obsolete fairly quickly, and the product just hung around on his shelves because nobody wanted to model a car with an obsolete graphics scheme. He said he'd quit ordering new sheets several years before- all he had in stock the whole time I shopped there were leftover stock from previous years.
