  1. You see quite a few Jeeps around here with the diamond plate body sheilds- I think this is the first time I've seen someone try it on a model.
  2. The A-team reissue (most recent one) had some pretty shallow panel lines, but I don't recall there being any issues with the drip rails fading in and out.
  3. I usually wait a day (24 hours or so in other words) before applying clear- I've found that in most cases if you spray the clear earlier than that, the clear will end up drying to more of a semi-gloss sheen.
  4. Ugh... about all that's any good from that kit is the rolling stock. I'm thinking of using some of the spare parts from the AMT '34 Ford kit engine (I'm assuming this kit has a 350), with some Minilite wheels I already have laying around.
  5. Started converting an Ertl Scout II into an A/B-series (first gen) Scout about four years ago. STILL looks exactly like this-
  6. To answer your question, no, never wondered about that.... UNTIL I saw this post. Must say, glad my curiosity got the better of me this time.
  7. I'm planning a 'Dajiban' style build for one, minus the 'Daji' part, perhaps.
  8. Most of the ones in my photos are already long gone- a few more are on private lots, where you either have to know the owner personally or know one of his buddies.
  9. No pics of the Revell version I built, but I do distinctly recall having absolutely no issues with the assembly process.
  10. When I scew something up I often go back to see what it was I did wrong, but for the most part, no.
  11. USPS just dropped off a Revell Surfite, Jimmy Flintstone '41 Chevy cab, and a Batmobile turbine engine. Thanks, Mike, Gene, and Ed!
  12. The four-wheel drives were just a typical ladder frame with a solid axle fore and aft- would not be a big deal whipping up your own if you're so inclined.
  13. I build them, or part them out for other projects. I do like the fact that some people do hang onto them in unbuilt form... otherwise, how would there be anything like Dennis Doty's columns on the old Hubley (or any other manufacturer's) kits? It's just for me, personally, I'm not into collecting them just to have, or as investments.
  14. Sweet! I'm not the only person who remembers that movie, or the truck!
  15. Only images I managed to find of it were of the one Tim built.
  16. Gotta stop buying this kit just for the wheels and tires and give that a try.
  17. Absolutely! Let's see it!
  18. This kit was given to me by Ed Hulings, owner of my local hobby shop, Hulings Hobby House. I got this one, and the 'Beach Bunny Catching Rays' kit. I'm normally not into these types of kits, but I agreed to build them for a window display- this was the first one I finished. There is actually a warp engineered into the kit body- the body is skewed to the passenger's side a bit. But there was some severe, unintentional warp in most all of the parts- lots of tape, clamps, and rubber bands were used in order to hold everything together as the glue set up. And that was after a rather significant amount of parts cleanup. Engine? Could be an early Cad, could be a flathead, could be a small V-16 with siameesed exhaust ports. Detail and realism aren't this kit's forte. The car is meant to sit on a sand-textured base, but I assembled the car so it would sit flat, without the base. The car was wethered with a variety of Tamiya acrylics. I did spray the surf boards in gloss paint for a bit of contrast. Despite the rather significant fit issues, it was actually a pretty fun model to build, though I'm not sure I'd want to build another one. The Mack semi tractor (1:32 snap kit) and the Monaco police car were built by another local modeler- he also makes the wood-framed display cases seen in the photo.
  19. I have the Rat Trap '31 Model A pickup. My only gripe has to do with the wheels/tires- the rear of the tires are molded open, and the inside of the wheels are oversized. Since I plan to build mine as a fenderless hot rod, that's a bit of a letdown. Other than that, looks like a farily good kit, though I've only gotten as far as engine assembly.
  20. Just thought of this one... the old Aurora '33 Ford coupe hot rod kit. I've only ever seen one- in an article Tim Boyd did on hot rod engines in the other mag a few years back. I've never seen another one-in person, in print, or online.
  21. Well... R&R has a '72 longbed Styleside. It has an incorrect interior and is a bit crude in places, not to mention the molding quality isn't quite up to snuff. I have heard a couple of casters are considering just such an animal, however. I retract my former statement and will wait for that one! That isn't to say I won't pick up one of the current versions, though!
  22. And just for fun, the completed car, now on display at my local hobby shop with the 'newstand' cover version of 164.
  23. Sorry, Curt... I think you have to have a popular YouTube video in order to become an internet millionaire.
  24. EFI, more than four gears, independent rear suspensions... might as well be extraterrestrial technology as far as NASCAR is concerned. Fact is, most NASCAR fans don't know the cars are low-tech dinosaurs, and fewer still care. NASCAR isn't going to modernize the vehicles if they don't have to as long as those crude old designs keep on rakin' in the revenue for them.
  25. Strange... at least one of those Champs made it to Europe... but all the Esci Ford Transits seemed to make it over here. (And you still can't find them in the States. )
