Scale auto renaissance?
Chuck Most replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, a '10 Olds Limited is one of the few cars I'd build factory stock and showroom fresh. Wouldn't stop me from building a hot rod or distressed junker or two as well, though. -
Ford pickups
Chuck Most replied to Terry Jessee's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Love 'em all, but I have to say the '34 with the coop on the back is my favorite of the bunch. -
Settled on an idea for the trailer load. It is a chopped '29 Model A cab on a modified '78 Ford Courier chassis. I built the chassis long ago, and it's just been sitting around for a project for at least a couple of years. It is made up mostly of spares, but I did copy some '63 Ford F-100 hubcaps to use on the wheels. I didn't care for the look of the IFS on a fenderless rod, so I cut off the stock front suspension and replaced it with a '30 Ford front axle and spring, and conjured up some hairpin radius rods and a side-steer setup with Pitman arm and drag link. The Farmall shell is the one I built up in MCM 154, I cut it down to work with the chassis and sit even with the cowl. This is about how the truck will always look- the doors and other loose parts will be set inside the cab. I'm thinking of using a Revell parts pack engine block, which has cylinders with pistons molded in. The heads, intake, and other such pieces will be crammed in the cab, or possibly in the bed, when/if I choose to install a bed.

'50 Chevy Pickups

Okay. Still good to know. Might take a little digging to find the AAM pieces, but they sure look good! -
'50 Chevy Pickups

Or the '54/'55 First Series conversion kit. Love them, Terry. Are those the Modelhaus wheels and tires on the wrecker? -
What they said. I'd also reccomend doing the trim all as one piece, then apply it to the body and cut in the lines for the door gaps and bed sides. This will help ensure it is straight and level, and that will elimiate the possibility of the trim piece on the fender not lining up with the trim on the door, etc.

I have absolutely NO idea why eModelcars hasn't caught on- I like the idea of a site that caters specifically to model cars and kits. I mean, why sift through eBay, craigslist, or whatever looking for you want, when you can go right to a site dealing toward modelers, and one that's logically sorted and easy to use? Only reason I don't use it too often is because I rarely have much to sell, and I haven't been buying much online lately. Heck- haven't been buying much from brick-and-mortar stores lately either! Another good source is Dean's Hobby Stop. His prices aren't always dirt cheap, but they are lower and a great deal more reasonable than typical market values. If I want an oddball and/or out of production kit, or a built-up glue bomb, or parts, Dean's is the first place I check. I'm fortunate enough to live within a reasonable distance from him so I can visit the actual store, but he does sell online as well. http://www.deanshobbystop.com/

Ah, okay. I do remember seeing the Showboat- that's the one I was thinking of. Didn't know you'd built four of them.

Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?
Chuck Most replied to whale392's topic in Community Builds
Just to keep with the 'Frankenstang' theme, what about a weathered finish, with mismatched body panels? You know, green doors, silver body, maroon decklid, one yellow front fender, one red front fender, something like that? If I ever pick up the MAD four-eyed Notch body, I think that's the route I'd go. -
What is everyones opinion on the I-Hobby announcements?

For me with the Enzo, it's just a simple matter of past experience telling me that 'Revell' and 'Ferrari' don't seem to combine well. All of the Revell Ferraris I've worked with were warped, ill-fitting junk. Maybe a snap version will bear a somewhat less annoying building process. -
Scale auto renaissance?

Meh.... I'm not about to let lack of an interior and a sealed hood foil my fun! Had they introduced such an animal in Bullet Nose Stude form, I'd have several of them with engine and interior detail added. -
Fixed YOUR missing apostrophe. You're welcome. Looking pretty cool, John. Didn't you build a drag car similar to this one a while back- Buick body with four engines?

Scale auto renaissance?

'50 and '51 Speaking of... am I the only one baffled by the lack of a full-detail styrene kit of one? Even if AMT had done one as part of that 'Slammers' series from the '90's I'd have been happy. I mean, hey, the DID kit a '61-3 Rambler American as part of that series... If you aren't intimidated by them being 'kids snap toys' or whatever 'serious' modelers call them and aren't afraid of a little cutting and pasting, they're fun projects. -

Okay... at least six guys would like an Airflow. Now, the question becomes, what year? Oh, and Chrysler or DeSoto? At least three of us would like a '37 Studebaker Coupe Express.... and one of those guys has connections. Just need to find several thousand more modelers with similar tastes! -
Very cool! Proof you can do something really cool and unexpected with that Black Widow kit.

Harry- we'd probably be the only two, but I'd love an Airflow. Just not in 1:8 scale, though. -
RMR kit or Spec Cast model? Either way, soooooooo stoked! Did a test-fit of the 'Vette chassis, Viper engine (with modified Vette bellhousing), and Matador body- It's either going to be fully sculpted, street-rod style underhood or have a couple fully plumbed turbos- looks like there is going to be a LOT of dead space under the hood, even with a giant V-10 stuffed in there.

new fire model
Chuck Most replied to Chariots of Fire's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Killer work, Charlie! My only gripe with your models is we don't see them often enough! -
This is how I do it- When you click on the image (the full image) you'll see the 'share' icon at the upper right side. Click on that and you will see a drop down menu. The first selection will be "Image URL for use on other sites:" move your cursor onto the address below that- it should highlight in orange. (If your internet is a bit slow it might take a second.) Left-click on it when it is highlighed and 'Copied' will appear. Then on this site click the Icon button (the square with a tree in it just below the text 'Size' box). When the prompt appears, paste the URL you copied from Fotki into the box and hit OK, the image should immediately appear in the post editor. (Again, might take a second for it to load if your internet is a bit slow.) Once the photo is in the editor, it should appear in the post. That's how I do it. Sounds like a lot, but the actual process takes about five seconds.

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Not sure how unflinchingly '50's the colors may be, but they just look so RIGHT on that Hornet! Once all the chrome trim is applied, that's really going to pop.
