Revell 1940 Custom Pick Up--Coming Soon
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I'm raiding the cab from at least one of them to build a '47. This is one of the few old Monogram Fords I've never built. -
Scale auto renaissance?
Chuck Most replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, the Donk kits were mostly based on existing tooling, and all the Donk parts were add on. In fact, I think all could be built as the earlier 2 in 1 versions where applicable. But yes, picking a good subject that will stand the test of time and NOT RUINING it by making something trendy out of it (cough cough, MPC Vampire Van) does sound like a great business model. Trick is... which ones will stand that test, besides the obvious choices? -
The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
No idea what kit this frame came from, but the 308 is a PERFECT fit. -
At a quick glance I see all sorts of flaws on that '57... would such an obviously flawed model even be worthy of coverage in such a prestigious peroidical?

And I'm glad to see more 'oddball', or at least less mainstream subject, being made available in kit form. One of these days they WILL exhaust all demand for '57 Chevys, Deuces, 'Vettes, and the like, and it'll be the remainder of what's available that will carry the hobby. What will that remainder be? I have no idea, but I think it's going to be fun watching it all unfold and finding out. -
In other words- they put the boots to them. Medium style.

Steve- I remember that 300! Wasn't that the dreadful R&R kit? -

I'd really love to see that infamous list of potential subjects Moebius worked from to develop the Hornet and Chrysler. I'd be willing to bet that there is a Bullet Nose of some type on that list. Another reason I'm hoping the Hudson and Chrysler do well- might point the way to a Bullet Nose. The Lonestar must have been a hit- they're working on kitting a Prostar and a 53' reefer trailer. Hopefully any sucess they have with their '50's car kits will beget more '50's car kits, such as the Bullet Nose Stude. -
Top one's gotta be the Italeri kit. Love that one.

LOVE the M880. One of these days I'll have a 1:1.

Custom Trabant FINISHED- Under Glass photos soon

Interior is pretty much dialed in. Dash still needs detailed, and I think I'll have to reposition the window cranks, or remove them and make it a 'true' roadster. Armrests and door pulls might still be in the cards, guess it all depends how far I want to take it. -

Actually, a '10 Olds Limited is one of the few cars I'd build factory stock and showroom fresh. Wouldn't stop me from building a hot rod or distressed junker or two as well, though. -
Ford pickups
Chuck Most replied to Terry Jessee's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Love 'em all, but I have to say the '34 with the coop on the back is my favorite of the bunch. -
Settled on an idea for the trailer load. It is a chopped '29 Model A cab on a modified '78 Ford Courier chassis. I built the chassis long ago, and it's just been sitting around for a project for at least a couple of years. It is made up mostly of spares, but I did copy some '63 Ford F-100 hubcaps to use on the wheels. I didn't care for the look of the IFS on a fenderless rod, so I cut off the stock front suspension and replaced it with a '30 Ford front axle and spring, and conjured up some hairpin radius rods and a side-steer setup with Pitman arm and drag link. The Farmall shell is the one I built up in MCM 154, I cut it down to work with the chassis and sit even with the cowl. This is about how the truck will always look- the doors and other loose parts will be set inside the cab. I'm thinking of using a Revell parts pack engine block, which has cylinders with pistons molded in. The heads, intake, and other such pieces will be crammed in the cab, or possibly in the bed, when/if I choose to install a bed.

'50 Chevy Pickups

Okay. Still good to know. Might take a little digging to find the AAM pieces, but they sure look good! -

Or the '54/'55 First Series conversion kit. Love them, Terry. Are those the Modelhaus wheels and tires on the wrecker? -
What they said. I'd also reccomend doing the trim all as one piece, then apply it to the body and cut in the lines for the door gaps and bed sides. This will help ensure it is straight and level, and that will elimiate the possibility of the trim piece on the fender not lining up with the trim on the door, etc.

I have absolutely NO idea why eModelcars hasn't caught on- I like the idea of a site that caters specifically to model cars and kits. I mean, why sift through eBay, craigslist, or whatever looking for you want, when you can go right to a site dealing toward modelers, and one that's logically sorted and easy to use? Only reason I don't use it too often is because I rarely have much to sell, and I haven't been buying much online lately. Heck- haven't been buying much from brick-and-mortar stores lately either! Another good source is Dean's Hobby Stop. His prices aren't always dirt cheap, but they are lower and a great deal more reasonable than typical market values. If I want an oddball and/or out of production kit, or a built-up glue bomb, or parts, Dean's is the first place I check. I'm fortunate enough to live within a reasonable distance from him so I can visit the actual store, but he does sell online as well. http://www.deanshobbystop.com/

Ah, okay. I do remember seeing the Showboat- that's the one I was thinking of. Didn't know you'd built four of them.

Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?
Chuck Most replied to whale392's topic in Community Builds
Just to keep with the 'Frankenstang' theme, what about a weathered finish, with mismatched body panels? You know, green doors, silver body, maroon decklid, one yellow front fender, one red front fender, something like that? If I ever pick up the MAD four-eyed Notch body, I think that's the route I'd go.
