  1. The Revell '90-'92 Mercury Cougar kits have a pretty good small block Ford, too, about on par with the ones in the Deuce kits.
  2. Ken and Dave are right= the buggy spring crossmember are gone from later issues, but the axle and hairpin are still there, or at least they've been there in every reissue I've had. Good parts box stuff.
  3. The orange one in the old gray Monogram box art is actually the one I'm working with right now. The coupe version's TPI setup was VERY nice indeed, and the billet wheels were pretty nice, even though I'm not really a fan of billet wheels on fat fender cars.
  4. Yeah... Sooooo glad the days of the SBC being the only choice are over! If I recall, the flattie from the '36 kit drops into this one without much effort. I think that's the route I'll go with mine. I'm thinking late '60's style custom rod, and just ignore the Mustang II IFS and Vette rear. (I admit to buying quite a few of these kits JUST for that MII frontend!)
  5. Still looks good to me, and I still want to buy a shoebox full of 'em!
  6. I don't remember if it's this kit or the coupe, but I seem to remember one version of this '37 having mismatched directional wheels on one side.I haven't built one in ages, but I do like this kit. About my only real gripe is that Chevy engine. Groan...
  7. I've spent less than that on a real car. Yeah, it's a big scale Aurora kit, but sheesh...
  8. Always love seeing that S-10 Blazer panel, Craig! Would a GMC Sonoma or Jimmy be 'close enough' for an S-10 thread? Because I do have a few of those in the works.
  9. When I bite the big old bazooka, my funeral will consist of my lifeless carcass being set ablaze and fired out of a cannon into a brick wall. This will then be posted on You Tube with a request for donations to cover the cost of the cannon and the wall. I'd originally planned to have all my models fired out of the same cannon at the same time, but I suppose I could have my family auction them off, again, to finance the cannon and the wall.
  10. What he said.
  11. I noticed that when I saw my buddy's '86 parked next to his sister's then-new '07. I thought "Jeez... that 07 is a huge car, or those Fox bodies are tiny!" Little of both I guess.
  12. Who'd have thunk you could take an early '70's Riv and make it uglier?
  13. Now I'm kind of thinking of building the 'Vette to resemble the El Camino box art...
  14. Thanks, Mark! Forgot about the goofy headlamps on the later MPC kits! Wasn't even aware of many of the other things you outlined (on either kit).I've got enough spares to almost build an MPC SVO at this point, maybe I'll still pick up the Revell version just for kicks.
  15. I didn't even know I needed these until I saw them just now!
  16. How does this one measure up to the MPC version?
  17. Some of the parts from that kit (three window and Tudor) almost drop right in, while other stuff (like the independent front and rear suspensions) take a little more work. I did bash this kit and one of those to make a replica of what a '34 Ford would have looked like if they'd adopted the passenger car styling on the trucks a few years back-
  18. Well... I wouldn't say this one has 'no' underhood detail, but there isn't much. Engine detail isn't too great either. You'd be scratchbuilding and dipping into the spares box quite a bit for a nice, well filled out engine bay with this kit.
  19. My definition has always been "A friend is the guy who you trust to go into your house and make all your porn disappear if you die unexpectedly." It is a pretty handy way to keep track of people who's work interests you on the forum, if I may give a serious answer.
  20. Sort of???? This is one I kitbashed with a Revell Deuce Tudor (and a few other kits) This is one done as a barn-find early rod One I kitbashed with the Phantom Vicky kit And this one with a Jimmy Flintstone extended cab (and the fender unit and frame extended to match) And yeah... quite a few of these will be bought simply as 'Coke Collectibles'. Ed Hulings, owner of Hulings Hobby house (where I bought this kit) ordered four of them in, and the first two went to a Coke collector!
  21. Lee- you owe me a new keyboard. It shorted out from me drooling on it... Well, Christian is slightly responsible, too. That Cosmo kit got me started.
  22. I've changed my mind. My dream kit would be one I could just flippin' build out of box and be happy with the end result! I'm tired of all this constant kitbashing, scratchbuilding, and padding the aftermarket's guys pockets!!!!
  23. If you're going with that paint scheme, I'd go with some rollers more like the ones on that Impulse!
  24. Great job! (Notice I resisted saying 'bang up job'... I think I remember reading that the violence of the crash in F&F was camera trickery- the actual car was not too badly damaged. A source said it looked as if a new subframe would be all that would be needed to drive it. Not a big fan of wrecking old cars in movies (except first-gen Camaros and '57 Chevys... sorry!), but I still get a kick out of seeing that '67 Fury get destroyed on Mythbusters reruns... and this is coming from the proud owner of a 1:1 '67 Fury! As was mentioned, theoretically mine IS worth more now...
  25. I'm not big into 'labels' either, but sometimes I feel it's necessary just to communicate a point with people. Thing is, what I consider a 'rat rod', 'custom', or 'whatever' may be entirely different from how you define it. A lot of guys would consider an Escalade with 26" spinners custom. I wouldn't, but take that same Escalade, lower it, shave the door handles, add a stainless grille and some new paint, and I would consider it a custom. I think with a 'rat rod' it has more to do with the owner than the car itself. When/if I ever get around to finishing my '34 Ford pickup, I know it won't be perfect. It won't have laser-straight body panels, and none of the door gaps will be perfectly even. It won't have perfect paint, it won't have a perfect interior... heck, it might not even be all one color! It won't be a traditonal rod by any means (the T5 tranny and hidden front disc brakes I'm planning kind of rule that out), but it won't be a 'rat rod', even though a lot of people think it would be. And no, I don't take offense to the term. I know what it is... it's my truck! I've got so many more important things on my mind than what some guy at the Admiral station thinks my ride is!
