First Kit Of Twenty Ten
Chuck Most replied to Longbow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first kit of 2010? No friggin' idea! I still need to finish up a few of my as-yet unfinished builds (from kits or otherwise) from this year! I'm leaning toward the AMT '62 Buick Electra or '49 Ford, or possibly that Monogram Bugatti EB110 I think I still have stashed away upstairs. -
Hemi would be a good choice, Ford 427 dual quad would be better... but what about a turbocharged Buick V6? If it were mine, I might even consider keeping the stock Toyo I'6, just because hey, when was the last time you saw a pro streeter with an inline sixer?

"H1N1" is the scientific shorthand for the most recent strain of Swine Flu. (No, swine flu cannot be transmitted through eating pork, and H1N1 is not the new Hummer model!)

Okay- a while back I said that my '94 Ram Puller truck may have been my 'end of the line for '09'. Since that one was completed, I've finished four other builds, so I'll refrain from calling this chocolate colored Comet the last model of '09, since that stupid Jeep rat of may be done tomorrow! Anyway- this is basically the gist- I wondered what might have happened if the Mercury boys had wanted to do their own version of the '66 Fairlane 427. Perhaps Mercury wanted a direct competitor to the GTO, or they'd gotten wind of a certain cartoon-themed Mopar due out for '68. What might such an animal have looked like, if they'd been required to use parts from the previous year's Fairlane 427? Here's my guess... I used the engine from the Fairlane kit, as well as the front and rear bench seats, shifter, wheels (even though the lug nut detail is an afterthought, and hood. The tall and skinny Firestone narrow whites are from the AMT '62 Buick Electra. I wanted a very muted, very earthy hue for the paint- the more I thought about it, the more I liked brown! The Krylon 'Leather' that I used was a bit lighter than I wanted, but I think it came out okay. Best part of the Krylon was I just waxed it to shine up a few rough areas... no clear gloss required at all! Some Photo etched Detail Master hood pins adorn the Fairlane hood, which is about the only tipoff that anything untoward is going on under the hood. A '73 Michigan plate (from the reissued AMT '49 Ford Coupe), brings up the rear.

Different? Yes. But I still love it! I sure hope ol Scary Jerry doesn't catch wind of the JP BBQ!

I know in five years nobody will get the H1N1 reference, but for now it's good for a cheap laugh or two!

THAT would be a sight to see!

New Chat Room on Forum
Chuck Most replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was just there- my name came up on the screen, but I must be catatonic or something, 'cuz I couldn't respond or reply to anybody! Hey Gregg- suggesting we pretend we're at our grandparent's house to keep it clean may not be a great idea for some... my grandfather makes sailors and mechanics blush! -
And here we are... A '53 Ford Pig Roaster, powered by a Lincoln 430 up front, and genuine, stolen-from-the-burning-city-of-Centralia, Pa. coal in back! I won't say it's the first ever 1:25 pig roastin' rat rod in existence... but it's unarguably one of very few! If you're so inclined, check out the "Mobile Pork Incinerator" in On The Workbench, or check out http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/buildups-and-how-to/buildup-mobile-pork/

No, E.J. was known for running Chevy engines on his bikes. I grew up in the same town as he did- the stories you hear are legendary! Yeah- he did a rocket bike, and some Allison V-12 machines, but I don't recall a Buick Bike from the house of E.J. Great build!

Good bye and thanks for the fish....
Chuck Most replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
NOw that sounds like a plan! I'd give that a try before I quit the forum! -
Cap'n- This was my last set o' duals- I bought a few sets a while ago, and robbed these from the old Monogram F-350 kit. You can get sets of em, but they run about $20! Me no thinkie so!!!! Foxer- NOT a bad idea... but where do I get a 1/25 scale ox? Bill- "S&G" indeed... hopefully in that order! Al- That's just creepy, dude! Charlie- That's no way to keep the economy afloat!!!! Here we have the finishing touches... The coal in back is a smashed up hunk of Kingsford, and the screen is a sanding screen I sprayed in flat black! Next stop... Under Glass!

How do I get the old format back
Chuck Most replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's what I hate... why the HELL is the tool bar with the fonts, sizes, etc., in the MIDDLE of the damned text box!? Why can't it be up top- where it DOESN'T prevent me from seeing what I'm typing? If I were to write another paragraph or two on this reply, I won't be able to see what I've written until I post it, then if I effed something up, I'd have to go back and edit the post. Or is this a polite way of saying to keep our posts brief? That's my major rant- the rest of the changes aren't so bad once you kind of get used to them. -
Christmas day, the saga continued... I added some scratchbuilt mudflaps, and attached the taillamps. I also made up and installed a skid for mounting the roaster body. I scratchbuilt some fenders from diamond plate to keep any errant embers off the tires... what about the gas tank, huh? I finally decided, after considering using everything from the Mack Tanker body to a shampoo bottle for the roaster body, to just scratchbuild the thing from scrap plastic. The chimney is a Bic pen shaft! Here I'm testing out the hinges- I'll need to add a screen and possibly some 'burning material'. Next time...

I think this is an old AMT annual kit dash. Now it's the MPI's dash! I used a '53 steering column, a '28 Lincoln Wheel, and a cassette deck from an old Japanese parts pack. I made up the chassis from plastruct strip. The Batteries are from a Revell lowrider, and the fuel tank is from an IH Paystar. A truck like this NEEDS a fire extinguisher, this one is from an AMT parts pack. I also made up housings for the AMT big rig kit sourced lenses. The S&S framed plate is an old-school 'white on blue' Michigan plate I printed off my computer. For the engine, I settled on a '65 Lincoln 430. It's pretty much box stock, other than the aluminum carb stacks and '66 Galaxie manifolds. It probably wouldn't be the fastest truck ever, but the 439 ought to have more than enough thrust to move the truck down the highway at a pretty respectable clip! And here's where I left off Christmas Eve... the basic truck itself was nearly done!

Farmall Tractor Noses For rat rods
Chuck Most replied to Chuck Most's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'm still working on the master, I'm trying to get it looking a bit better than my usual scratchbuilt ones. No, I didn't forget this thread! -
Thanks guys- hopefully you won't be too disappointed by my progress! I fashioned up a makeshift interior, once again using cast off junk that I beat up and weathered... Hopefully I'm not screwing the pooch by showing the body at this stage, but oh well- here goes! I sprayed the whole mess in orange paint, then weathered it using sandpaper, scratch removing polish, a wire brush, and some rust colored wash and brown weathering powder. The second and third photos show a few of the doodads I slapped on- the megaphone (with the mic hanging out the driver window), the orange flasher, the air horns, the visor, and the mirrors (Jeepster heads with sewing pin arms). The 'Scary Jerry's International House of Pork' placards are just printed out on printer paper and superglued to teh doors. The front bumper is balsa, broken and soaked in superglue, so it will remain 'broken' yet intact. And yeah, that alarm clock says 2:33... as in AM! My garage is always open late! The fourth photo is a ride height/stance/wheelbase mockup. I'll be running the wheels and tires from a Monogram F-350 (same kit that donated it's chassis to my '26 Mack, and it's bed to my Paystar CXT), dirtied and dulled up a bit. This is about the stance I'm shooting for- wheelbase is still up in the air at this point, and will depend on the kind of Pig Pyre I plan to procure for the project. Still haven't settled on an engine... but I've got a few ideas!

Peterbilt 359 (Revell)
Chuck Most replied to vizio93's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I've got two of these kits stashed, and yeah, I think the tires are easily the weakest parts of the whole thing- snap kit or no! Otherwise it's very nice! -
Top Gear, the end is nigh?
Chuck Most replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ever see the episode where the Top Gear boys hung out with Gordon Ramsey? Captain Slow's "Piece of sh*t" (in Ramsey's words) potato pie beat Ramsey's, and after eating something really gross (I want to say it was sheep testicles, or something,) James May held it down while Ramsey projectile vomited into a bucket! Sounds to me like it should be Captain Slow's Kitchen Nightmares! -
Not sure what kind of pipes I'll run yet, but I will tell ya this- no Chevy chassis or engine, for sure!

A 'Vette limo? It's such a sick and twisted idea it just HAS to work!
