A M T 's -New / old 32 Ford Five window coupe

That's the crude old 1/24 Lindberg kit. It' s about as detailed and accurate as an Egyptian Hieroglyph, but I likes it! -

International LoneStar kit???
Chuck Most replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Has anybody seen the new Harley-Davidson edition Lonestar? Sweet lordy, it's a beauty! It has a custom, horizontal bar grille that reallly cleans up the front, and it has single round headlamps that kind of stand off of the fenders a bit. And, of course, it's got all the obligatory HD blackout motifs going on, as well as a healthy smattering of eye-searing chrome anywhere you care to look! Shame there'll never be a 1/25 kit of a Lonestar... they could make it into a 2 in 1: Standard (if you can call anything about a Lonestar 'standard'), and Harley edition! I don't even build many big rig kits (I've done exactly seven over the twenty one years I've been modeling... that number drops to two if you don't count Ford C-cabs or Dodge L-700s as 'big rigs'), but I could easily see myself buying at least, oh, five or six Lonestar kits, if one were ever produced! -

This is a pretty good kit, for what it is. http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/hot-rods/09999.html This one isn't box stock, but it's about 90%. I added a model A four-banger, and added the F-head conversion from the Revell '31 Tudor. I built this one quite a few years ago- I'd like to do a second version of it now, since my modeling skills have (allegedly) improved ! -
Here's a link, anyway: http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/rat-rods/07272.html This model recently had a situation involving a crowded temporary shelf, gravity, and a hardwood floor. I've gathered up the pieces, and hope to try and salvage something out of it, as these old Heller kits aren't exactly common!

I like this! Looks kinda like a squashed Vega in front... and I mean that in the nicest way possible!

I like it! Yeah- red always seems pink in photos. Why is that? Late '50's Mopes rule... and this is a FORD dude talking!

1/25 Revell '72 Hurst/Olds Cutlass Kit
Chuck Most replied to W-Machine's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I was stoked to see the 'impending release' of the '87 Cutlass kit, too, so I'm not going to get too excited until I see the '72 physically on the shelves. I Revell does, in fact, release the '72, I can guarantee you I'll be buying at least a couple of 'em. One thing the world needs is more late '60's to early '70's Cutlasses in scale styrene! I'm hoping the actual kit includes an up-top. Or, better still, they pop a hardtop variant later... THAT would get me stoked! -
Wonder if they'll find any moon-oil?

I thought the last Buick customer had already died of old age. When Carter was in the white house. Weird...

A man was sitting at a bus stop, holding five crying, screaming infants. A woman approached the bus stop and saw the man seated there with all those unruly rugrats. "Are those yours?"She asked. "No," the man replied, "I work at a condom factory and these are customer complaints."

Yeah- I kind of stumbled onto a late 50's/early '60's Mopar vibe with it- that's why I added the Sonoramic-style intake, the 'Virgil Exner Memorial Fins' on the bed, and the Imperial-esque 'toilet seat' fake spare on the back. To be totally honest, I had no actual plan at all when I started, and just kind of designed the thing as I went. I really liked the grille from the AMT parts pack, because out of the context of the rest of the '62 Dodge it came off of, it kind of looks like something you'd see on an Ed Roth show rod. The intregal headlamps were a big plus, too! When I take this to shows, nobody has any idea what kind of truck it started out as! Thanks for the props, guys. And Spyder, once again, thanks for the step-by-step pics on posting from Fotki. Now I've just got to update my Fotki page...

Ever have a really crazy idea that you just couldn't shake until you saw it through to completion? That's what you be lookin' at 'ere. One day, I wondered: "Huh... what might a '78 Dodge truck look like, if a bored rat-rodder got a hold of the thing?" The idea stuck, and here we are. About the only '78 Dodge stuff left on it is the heavily chopped cab, and the floorpan and dash, which were also chopped limb from limb. You can check out the whole buildup on my Fotki page. Once again, thanks to Spyder for posting the idiot proof, Fotki-specific photo posting how-to. You da man!

I do. I can tolerate up to 400#, if necessary! I've met a guy named Richard Head. Think about THAT one. And no, I am NOT kidding at all. If my last name were Head, and my mother had named me Richard, knowing full well I'd probably end up being known as Dick, I'd have smothered her with a pillow before my tenth birthday! Anyway.... Q- What do state employees and guns with broken triggers have in common? A- They won't work and you can't fire them. Q- What's silver with green arms and legs? A- The trashcan behind the infirmiry at a logging camp. Q- What do you do with an elephant who has three balls? A- You walk him, and pitch to the rhino. Note- the preceding jokes can be made much more amusing by subsituting the answer with "Yo' Mama!"

Actuallly, Harry, according to the parts manager at my local Pontiac dealer, Pontiac, Buick, and GMC were rolled into one division a few years ago. I'd heard GM was thinking of it, but didn't know it actually happened until he told me this yesterday. That's why you see the ads in the Sunday paper with the 'great lease deals' on a Sierra, G6, and LaCrosse all on one page, and the ads for Chevy and Cadillac are separate, because Chevy and Caddy are still their own separate divisions. They'd planned to combine Olds and Buick into one division, but it never happened. So, it appears that like the Plymouth arm of the Chrylser/Plymouth division, and the Eagle side of Jeep/Eagle, we'll soon go from Pontiac-Buick-GMC to Buick-GMC. Evidently, merging into one division with other brands does not guarantee immortality! Maybe GM will see the folly in their ways and bring back the Oakland line... Now, what ya wanna wager that there'll be no more new Buicks by the end of the next decade?

I have to say it's not so much a particular vehicle or style that inspires me, nor is it a specific model or car. Granted, I've got a thing for Model As, Model Ts, Deuces of every type, early F-series trucks, and old International trucks, but I never know from one project to the next what is going to cross my workbench. Usually, I'll see a feature or a photo in a magazine like Rod&Custom, Street Rodder, Hot Rod, Rebel Rodz, or some other 1:1 car mag and come away with a few ideas, or even get the ocassional 'bolt from the blue' that sends me straight to the workbench with a build idea already formulated in my head. But I'd have to say that it's usually the work of another modeler that gives me the most inspiration. I can't tell you how many times I've read an article or seen a build by Tim Boyd, Pat Covert, Bob Downie,###### Cranky, or Drew Hierwarter and have come away with an idea or two. I've followed along on quite a few of Tim Boyd's hot rod builds over the years, and have adapted many of them to my own sick, twisted whims. Bob Downie's models are always top-notch, and I particularly like how he seems to have a very keen talent on taking kits that aren't really that detailed and making them pop with a little careful paint detailing. He's also been known to let his hair down a bit and build something crazy- I specifially recall a pink Packard called the 'Packarderm' he built years ago, as well as the current Challenger/Mustang/Camaro mutant on his Fotki page right now. Pat Covert's crusty, weathered vehicles, particularly his 'Grundy Salvage' builds, are always inspiring. Same goes for ###### Cranky- he and I seem to have a very similar attitude with rat rods- the wackier the better! And Drew's 'less is more' philosophy always lifts my spirits, and reminds me that I don't need to throw $75 bucks worth of aftermarket parts at a build to make it look good. Since joining the MCM forum, I've also been inspired by the work of Abe Dooley, Fletch, Lyle Willits, Bob Black, Alyn, and countless, countless other guys.

Is it just me or.............
Chuck Most replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Several reasons that I refuse to do a super-detailed build! Seriously, I'd rather check out somebody else's scratchbuilt, photoetched, unbelievably detailed build that embark upon such a project myself. I just haven't got THAT much patience! -
What- I'm supposed to remember a joke you posted months ago!? Alrightie, then.... here's my redemption: Three friends were taking a tour of a beer brewery. While walking over the catwalk that took them over one of the giant beer vats, one of the tres amigos leaned a little too far over the handrail and fell into the vat. His two friends were asked to leave the brewery floor while he was being rescued. An hour later, a representative from the brewery met the man's two friends in the lobby and told them that their friend had drowned. After a moment, one of the men asked: "Do you think he suffered?" "I don't think so." the representative said. "In fact, before he drowned, he climbed out three times to take a leak."

Here's a really bad one: A ham sandwich walks into a bar, and the bartender says: "We don't serve food here."

I don't see why they don't just can the entire lineup (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, etc.), and just call them all GMs. GM Silverado 1500. GM LaCrosse. GM Malibu, and so on. Maybe keep Cadillac as the premium line. Years ago, the Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, and Olds names actually meant something. Not so much these days. Even the newer brands, like Toyota's Scion devision, are having a few second thoughts hurled at them of late. I'm all for leaving the Mercury nameplate over at Ford alone, though.

A guy was driving through the countryside of Montana when his car broke down. He walked into the nearest town looking for a repair shop, and when he found one, was shocked to see a sign in the window that read "Talking Dog for sale" The man walked into the building. A grizzled old geezer sat at a desk, and a scruffy old Golden Retriever lay on the floor. As the door creaked open, the dog lifted its head and asked "Can I help you?" Stunned, the man simply stared at the old dog for a few moments as he tried to collect his thoughts. Finally, after he'd recovered a bit, he asked: "A talking dog... wow... what's your story." "Well," the dog replied " I learned to talk when I was a puppy. At first it was just kind of a novelty- then the local police recruited me to eavesdrop on people. You know- who's gonna expect a dog is listening, right? I helped bust a lot of drug dealers and theives. Then, the CIA found out about me, and they recruited me to spy on the Soviets. I remember laying on the Russian Prime Minister's lap while he petted me and talked about all the nukes he had pointing at us. " "After a few years, I was getting burned out, so I left the CIA and started volunteering in the local schools. I got married, had a few puppies, and finally decided to settle down here in Montana." Amazed, the man simply stood for a while, soaking in the incredible story this talking dog had just told him. He turned to the old man. "Sir, your talking dog is... just amazing! How much do you want for him?" "Ten bucks" the old man said. "TEN BUCKS!?" the man exlaimed "Why only ten bucks?" The old man looked the traveler straight in the eye and said: "Cuz he's a flippin' liar. He never did any of that sh*t he just said!"

So... guess that means goats are off limits, huh? -
Anybody remember the "Return of AMC" April Fool in Hot Rod a few years back? And, GM itself is saving Pontiac, using the "Jack Kevorkian's Guide to a Better Life" self-help series! Think about it... no longer will the great Pontiac name be sullied on substandard turd-boxes like the G5, G7, GWhiz, and whatever the hey-all other alpha-numerically named models in the Pontiac lineup!

That's what I'm talkin' about! We 'serious' (?) modelers get some sweet wide whites for our '32, and the casual modelers don't have to worry about making it fit! I'm guessing I'm a tad bit more optimistic on seeing it happen, but if enough people want to see it happen, I'm sure Revell would be more than happy to see it through. Provided, of course, it's profitable for them! (And that last sentence is not a slam- I simply understand the fact that it makes no sense for a company to invest in a product that no one, or very few people, will purchase. Revell is in it to make money- just like every other manufacturing company out there!)
