  1. The first factory-issue Lincoln of any kind you could consider a wagon (hearses excluded of course) was the '98 Navigator. (Why there's no Navigator kit out there I cannot imagine.) I don't recall ever seeing a factory prototype Lincoln wagon, either. You could get a Cadillac wagon, but I think that was an aftermarket deal. Heck, in high school I thought about buying my buddy's '85 Country Squire and hanging some Town Car sheetmetal off it and doing up my own Town Wagon! Funny- there was never a Lincoln wagon concept, but I do remember seeing a full-scale 4-door Mustang clay model ! I love seeing the '65 kit built up, as the '61-'67 Connies are some of my all-time faves. I haven't seen the wagon version built up in a while... and this would be the first time I've seen a purple one, with a color-matched interior, no less!
  2. I've never seen the 1/20 Blazer kit- this is a new one on me! It'll look cool done up like the Blazer in the photo. Not sure about the roof-mounted spare, though I guess there'd really be no other place to put it, but I think you should try a brush guard with lights like in the pic.
  3. T-buckets are pretty easy to keep cool- if you just keep them moving at a good steady clip! Who needs a fan when you have an endless wall of atmosphere you're pushing through at a hundred miles an hour?! Keep it out of any 1/8 scale MickeyD's drive-thrus you may encounter and you'll do fine! (NOTE: In the preceding text, many entire sentences were actually true.)
  4. Hmmm.... looks like SOMEBODY'S never climbed into a Ford H-series COE! I've seen a 1:1 Willys cabover in a magazine. I think it was Street Rodder, and it seemed like it was about ten years ago or so. I even tried to do one in 1:25 with an AMT kit as the basis, but it didn't end well and I either broke it down for parts or it lives in the deepest, darkest corner of my 'junk I'll never finish' pile.
  5. I get what you mean, but isn't a Volvo the boxiest lowrider fodder possible?
  6. I'd love to see the Challenger brought back out, but when's the Attempt I going to be re-released? THAT'S something I'd like to have. Even though I already have a couple of them stashed. I've got a thing for four-cylinder race cars and rods, especially when they're as oddball as a Poncho Slant-4 with a supercharger!
  7. The cops in my area are big on that- don't run the auxillary lights and you're asking for a roadside chat with one of central Michigan's finest. But they do seem to pick and choose what laws to enforce. I always wonder where the cops are when idiots use the left-turn lane as an on-ramp. It's stupid, and I've seen a few accidents as a result. The center lane is for LEFT TURNS- NOT MERGING! And what part of "It's okay to turn on red, if traffic is clear and there's no sign posted that explicitly prohibits turning right on red" do people not seem to get? A touch off-topic, yes. That's just something I had to get off my chest. As for bikers not wanting to wear helmets, I say let 'em not wear helmets if that's what they choose. Ever heard of Darwinism? Hopefully it still applies!
  8. AMT also did promos- I have a '66 (or is it '67... man, I'll have to go look now!) four-door promo. No engine, but hey, that means you can spend more time on the body! I could've gotten a '69 kit awhile back for $20 (started but never finished), but somebody else swooped in at the last minute! Story of my life... I'd really like to find another '66 or '67 so I can do it up as a two door. the '66 and '67 cars were similar, bodywise, and it was one of those two years that was the first for a two-door in this generation Lincoln Continental. The promo I have has been in the family since it was new, so I'm not cutting into that one! I've got the '65 kit, as well as the Monogram '41 and the Lindberg '48. Other than the hard to find originals like this one I'm so jealous of you for having , they're about all you can get as far as bi-scale Lincoln kits. I've given up all hope on ever seeing a kit of an '80-'89, '90-'97, or '98-up Town Car, or a '93 MKVIII. No Navigator kits, either! Why is the world the way it is... Now, I'm just gonna shut up and enjoy the finished build... love it! Thinking of dusting off one of my 20 or 30 '65 kits and hitting the bench now!
  9. I really think that most lawmakers and cops really need to focus on what their jobs are supposed to be- serving the public, not harassing them. I used to drive a '75 El Camino with glasspacks, and I got stopped a few times for it being too loud. Yeah, it was loud, but not as loud as, say... a stock Harley. I've never heard of a motorcycle rider being stopped in my area for being too loud. Then again, maybe that has to do with the fact that most of the cops in and around where I live OWN Harleys. One local cop (who will remain nameless here) was a big muscle car guy, and while it was pretty common to see him stopping a car, he was quite a bit more tolerant of the 'noise polllution' thing. As far as lights and light covers, for the most part I think they look stupid. (LED washer nozzles, licence plate screws, and valve stem caps? What are you, six years old?) But I don't think they should be outlawed outright, as long as 1- they comply with existing laws (you know, amber on front, red on back, etc. etc.)or, 2. if they are left off while the vehicle is public roads. Underbody neon is okay, but let's not have it on the streets! I think foglights should be outlawed. Seems like every a-hole coming at you at night has them on, fog or not, and they've actually been proven to REDUCE visibility in non-foggy conditions, yet most people still believe they can see better. Well, right up until they miss the curve and plow straight into a tree! But hey, people believe stuff even more stupid than that, so it can't surprise me much. As far as suspension height and wheels, that's never been a problem around my turf. Lifted trucks are the norm, and practiallly none of the muscle cars wear their stock wheels. Again, possibly due to the fact that every cop around here owns a lifted 4x4 with 20" wheels, or an old muscle car rolling on M/T Sportsmans! I loved it when I was in the auto repair biz, and we'd get calls from people asking 'How much will it cost to remove the catalytic converter?' Our response "$50,000." When we heard the inevitable dumbfounded 'why' on the other end, we'd say "Because that's the amount of the fine we'll get if we do that." Most people don't realize it's a federal offense to tamper with the vehicle's emissions system, even though 50% of it is completely and utterly useless. I don't really see why the government is so flippin' obsessed over what we can and cannot do to our vehicles. I mean, Jeez, the presedential limosene is what you might call 'heavily modified'! And, hey... are all those military vehicles legal for use on public roads. Seems there'd be some 'too tall' issues there, not counting the rockets (dummy or not) strapped to the flatbed ! I say they let us do what we do best- spending our money an stimulating the economy to modify our cars. And they can go right on doing what they do best- spending our money on wars, NASA, $30,000 wrenches and toilet seats, and whatever other junk they spend it on.
  10. Well, Chris- it looks like a pretty intense build you have here, and an intense design needs intense wheels, right? Those wheels peg a solid 11 on the 'intens-o-meter'! I think Bluesman Mark has a great idea on 'cooridinating' the direction the panels open, but I'd go with a suicide driver door and a standard, front-hinged door on the passengers side, opposite of what he proposed, just I could claim it was my idea and not his ! No, seriously, wouldn't do that! These kits can look very cool- with some extreme work anyhow!
  11. I actually have tried the 'blue towel for buffing' like Big Gary says- I can vouch for it all the way. Haven't tried the Bounty yet, but it sounds plausible, and besides, Gregg sez it works, so it must work! Either way, yeah- make sure your primer is totally cured first! (Been down THAT road before, too... )
  12. Wow- quite a difference! Way to give Nutrisystem the finger! Just goes to show you anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Well... just about anything. I still can't make the dinner table levitate with the power of my mind, but I'm still plugging away at it. Congrats to you... and to Mr. Obsessive!!!!
  13. I'm not really sure how I got into car modeling- my dad used to build, but he stopped back in the '70's. I started when I was six, then got out of it, then jumped back into it about five years ago and haven't looked back since! My parents have always been supportive, though probably because they know all that clutter piled up in the workshop would eventually become a model.
  14. Nope- it's a different guy. The Clay who hangs out on MCM is deployed in the service now, and the other Clay is a regular contributor to SA.
  15. I'd gladly pay eighty bucks for a body you painted, if nothing else for bragging rights! "Here's my '40 Willys and, uh, oh yeah... MARCOS CRUZ painted it!" Now, being able to afford the eighty bucks... that is a whole other matter entirely!
  16. Yeah... I'd say this is the right place! Welcome aboard Kevin!
  17. Russ Schwenkler... Isn't he one of the guys who used to run S&S specialties in Owosso, MI? There was another guy, Mike Siegeman (pretty sure I butchered the guy's last name there), who kept it going in Michigan as Detail Resources. Haven't heard of either company in years, though I have used the products! I love the work of Clay Kemp, but, man... I will NEVER build to that level. To me, just getting everything that... I don't know.. PERFECT, would sap all the fun out of it. Looking at one of Clay's builds, it's hard to imagine it's a model. Maybe Clay is NOT a modeler... maybe he's an inventor, who's using his top-secret shrink ray on real race cars, then passing off the shrunken racers as 'models'! Weigh one of his models to see if the weight scales out to test this theory! I would think endlessly fussing over the details that Clay seems to add so naturally, as well as the endless research... 'God, I have to read all of this and study these pictures! This is like being in class!' My hat is off to ANYONE with that kind of fortitude! I like Bluesman Mark's statement of hitting a plateau and staying there... I can totally relate to that!
  18. Ken is absolutely correct- I went and checked out my kit, and the windsheild is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too flat, even to the eye of this Ford man! I think I can overlook it, but I have to wonder how difficult it would be to add a little curve to the area, or even graft in the windsheild from a Revell '67 Chevelle. I've been doing a few 'top swaps' on some of my models lately, maybe this would be a natural step for this build. You can't to a '66 or '67 Cutty, but still, I see lowrider-style SATURNS all the flippin' time!? Yeah, that's one reason I got out of lowriders- if it ain't an Imp, it ain't gonna be appreciated! Never mind that the Model King/AMT '70 Buick Wildcat comes with some really sweet lowrider graphics- just add Hoppin' Hydros wheels and you're set! Which would you rather see- yet another Impala or Fleetwood, or something off the chain like a Wildcat, 442, or heck... even a '78 Dodge truck?
  19. Hmmmmm.... could you be a bit more specific?
  20. Whoa... how is it that these two designs actually WORK?
  21. Uh... Abe? I think you meant 'crapsmanship' not 'craftsmanship'! I've got a Fotki page (still haven't updated to full membership yet), just go to the Fotki homepage and type in ChuckMost under member's search. Yeah- don't know why I did it all one word like that, but I did! Thinkin' I may just have to schlap together a military-style rat rod one of these days! Or maybe do something crazy... like build a Scout II kit BOX STOCK!
  22. Yeah- I'm thinking the same thing- I've got a set of these from the old IMC/Testors '48 Ford kit that need a home! Truth be told- I'm surprised that I don't see more of these (as well as the AMT '66 version) done up as lowriders.
  23. Probably just because looking more like a Lincoln than an Olds isn't a bad thing! Seriously, Steve, I haven't noticed that- I'll have to check it out after I've built this one. I'm not a huge fan of the '67 schnozz, I prefer the '66 and '68 versions and kind of see the '67 as an akward middle child, so I can't promise to be 100% unbiased in my opinion! Harry... there is NO SUCH THING as a non-postworthy paint job. This ain't the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance here! Barring that, If anybody else has built this one, feel free to post some pics of it here. Here's an idea... maybe I should turn mine into a Vista Cruiser...? Okay, maybe not.
  24. I agree Harry- where's the '32 Dodge or Plymouth... or even DeSoto, to go with the one '32 Chevy and the gaggle of '32 Ford kits out there? A '49-'57 Olds or Buick wouldn't exactly kill anyone, either. A Tucker would be sweet, or what about a Checker Marathon? Sheesh... even something like a Hudson Hornet, early Nash Rambler, or Bullet-nose Stude would seem like a 'no brainer' that would appeal to any hardcore modeler! Personally, I could easily live with a few more versions of the '32 kit (perhaps next time with a side-steer setup, rear buggy spring, stock-style firewall, and an I beam axle in place of the round tube unit, though I'm sure we'll never get those items, well, from Revell at least). I'm still holding out hope for a Deuce pickup kit! I wouldn't even mind a Fordor highboy variant. There. I said it! I'd much rather see Revell end it's love affair with the '57 Chevy (HOW MANY of those kit tools do they own now?) The 150 Black Widow? Come on! 'd have rather seen a late model pickup kit, or even a reissue of, say, the old Jeep Honcho kit, than this thing. And I'm scared to think how many times Revell will be reaching into the '69 Nova goody bag over the next few years.
  25. Isn't it cool to have Lindberg kits back? Since I can't see any of you, I'll just assume that you are nodding your head vigorously enough to shake your special headgear loose. Good! I'll get my two gripes out of the way first: 1. The box art features the 1:1 car, not the model. I hate that- it just seems that the model manufacturer has no pride in their product, and can be a bit misleading (like the Lindberg '48 Lincoln kit). Then again, that knife cuts both ways... remember the AMT '69 Daytona that oh so OBVIOUSLY had the chassis from the Road Runner/Super Bee and a bunch of stuff under the hood that was not included in the actual kit? But anyway, the last issue of this kit also featured a photo of the 1:1. I'd rather see the model on the box! 2. Lindberg still, for whatever reason, does NOT bag it's chrome sprues! Nothing kills the buzz more effectively than cracking open the box and finding chrome that's all scratched up, though happily this was not the case this time, and at least Lindberg DOES bag the clear parts. Okay, now... what do you get? Well, what you get is actually a pretty nicely done rendition of the '67 442. The chrome trim and door handles are separate, along with the rear window trim. The 14" Magnum 500 wheels are pretty good, as are the Firestone Super Sports, which bear an uncanny resemblance to AMT's versions of same. The engine is nice- down to the twin-snorkel air cleaner housing for the 4-bbl. carb. Unlike Lindbergs '72 Challenger, which proudly proclaimed "Exquisite interior detail" when the interior was so NOT exquisite (or even detailed, honestly ) this one is, equally on par with AMT's '66 442 kit. Chassis detail is also far into the realm of what I'd call 'decent enough'. Decals include several underhood markings, and the fadaway-motif graphics for the 442 badges. And the price is right... less than fifteen bucks at my LHS, in a world where the typical Revell kit changes hands for north of twenty, I certainly can't complain there! I'm not really big into muscle cars, but I do like this kit. I'm thinking it would make a fine replica stocker with little work. I'm more into AWB funny cars, so I'm thinking this will be my kits fate. Or, wait... what about a mild custom? The separate trim and door handles would make a shave job substantially easy... ...maybe I should pick up a couple more of these, huh?
