Picked up a Mig Welder, price was right, don't have to drag the one from work home anymore, and before anyone questions it's quality I have already compared it to the Lincoln Electric Mig Pak 10 I've got at work, and as far as internals they are the same, only difference is the color and name on it. And yes as you can tell I've already been playing with my new toy. Nick

Z71 Package Debuted in 1989, it was only available on 4x4's and included Front differential skid plate, Transfer case skid plate, and Transmission skid plates, it also included a set of Bilstein Gas Shocks. This is what the REAL Z71 package was. I have a customer with a 2008 Silverado 1500 2WD with the Z71, it has the skid plates and Bilsteins, but is a 2WD ONLY truck, Confused the hell out of me the first time he brought it to me, I looked at the decals on the bedside then started thinking whether or not I saw a dial on the dash, I checked the front for a front diff and CV shafts and there wasn't any it was like I mentioned a 2WD As far as the subject of a new model of the '88-'98, IMO there's nothing really wrong with the AMT tooling a little bit of work can't fix easily. Nick Edit, Forgot I had a picture of Brian's Truck from around this time last year when I did a left rear wheel cylinder and a front left lower control arm. Also had his truck in today for an oil change, nice truck really, he says it gets good mileage for it being a large pickup with a V8, it's a 4.8L truck. same time I took this picture we were updating the shop website, hence the photo with no "Techs" present. -
Rob my thoughts were more on the actual meaning of the year 1979 in regards to the Cannonball, not so much the year it's self but the significance of it to the Cannonball races. Nick I really don't care either way, it only for fun in the end, just thought after 2 un-limited's, 1 60's era and 1 80's era, that maybe it was time for a different year, of Course we could use other years with a close related significance such as 1972, 1975, or 1976.

Unless that is they're Trim level, my feeling on GM trucks is that a truck being a Cheyenne Trim level 1/2 ton 2WD is a Cheyenne C1500, not a Silverado 1/2ton, Z71 belongs tacked on the name of trucks wearing that 4x4 package, etc. Nick -
Sure am Nick, this Diorama's are FUN for sure.

I like your idea's Rob, The one idea that keeps hitting me would fit basically into two of your choices, the Orginal "Cannonball Sea to Shinning Sea Memorial Trophy Dash" Races were held in '72, '75, and '79, the first Cannonball related movie was '76 with Cannonball! The Original Rules were: "All competitors will drive any vehicle of their choosing, over any route, at any speed they judge practical, between the starting point and destination. The competitor finishing with the lowest elapsed time is the winner." So my thoughts are, In the last years we've had '81 or earlier and '62 or earlier, well why don't we try '79 or Earlier 1979 being the last year that Brock Yates held the Cannonball Sea to Shinning Sea Memorial Trophy Dash? And of course use Mr. Yates rules. My 2 Cents worth. Nick

Though the kit trans was the SM465 4spd available from '88-'92 (the kit being a '90), also like I said this trans is parts box, and I really Don't care, looks better than the 4spd manual trans, Only external visual difference in 25th scale is the pan, which I'm not going to bother screwing around with. My Cheyenne has the Composite lights and chrome Grill from the factory, was a available "Decor" Package at a cost of If I remember right $115. Nick

Finally got my 1:1 project to the point where I'm not having to put as many hours into it, and I'm not as busy with work so I've been working on clearing out old projects. Started working on getting this one finished. First job was to give my motor a coat of Duplicolor Engine enamel, Black of Course. Then I got looking at the transmission, NOPE WRONG FOR MY TRUCK, the transmission included is of course the SM465 4spd Manual (dropped in '92), my truck is a '93 and has the 4L60E 4spd Automatic (First year available on 1/2 tons), so I went parts box scrounging and came up with as close as I could find. Gave it a Shot of King Industrial Core Rebuilders Cast Aluminum paint. Still need to add the dipstick tube and dipstick, haven't decided if I'm going to do the lines yet. Also painted the bumpers and mirrors with the same paint I used on my 1:1 to clean up everything, Duplicolors Acrylic Lacquer, which didn't overly impress me. Also Polished out the paint and did the trim. Nick
