  1. Snow and I stopped at the local LHS, needed to give the truck a run, haven't had it out in a few days. The reason for the pink. spent a while digging through all the paints looking for a match and it is the closest, in regular light it's a better match. Nick
  2. Took these first two at about 1:30 AM this morning. Took the last one around 11 AM when I got over to my Fury. Nick
  3. Didn't miss it, added you to list a few days ago Added you to the list. Chocked another on the list. And another on the list. Nick
  4. I take it '65 with parts from the '98. And driving across the Pacific would be a real test of durability I can do that.
  5. HNTR has also been very generous to Donate a Revell GMC wrecker, in his words "That way everyone has a chance." Nick
  6. Your guys got it now. Remind me to bring a spare set of tires (and my tires aren't cheap either, 315/35/17 front 335/35/17 rear) Nick as for prizes this year, Top 3 will get a Prize, Erik Smith has been extremely Generous and Donated a AMT Phantom Ford Econoline, and I have an AMT '32 Ford Phaeton and Revell '05 Impala Snap-police car.
  7. Thanks Michael gives me something to do. Nick
  8. Note: that I haven't actually done anything to my entry, just pulled it out and cleaned it. We still have a few days to go boys
  9. Model: gave it a polish this morning after the festivities had wrapped up. Story: After stripping the Chevy down the boys were curious to see if they could save that Dark Blue finish from years past. Turns out our Chevy won't need a paint job. We have yet to name our race team but rest assured once we get a little further into the build of our Chevy we will find a characteristic to choose the name from. Nick PS looks like I'll be starting 2012 with a pair of '57 Chevy's on the bench.
  10. I don't see why not, Like Rob mentioned in the past there was no entry deadline. Nick
  11. Okay here goes: The Model: Bought this (and a couple others) AMT New Tool '57 Chevy Street Machine from a local modellers Collection after he passed away, he had painted it (I love the blue he used)and removed the big block (bummer). The Story: Ontario, Now, the Deadline for the Cannonball is just under a year away, we need a car to race, after a search of the local ads we find a Blue '57 Bel Air that has an old restoration starting to show it's age, the price is right and after some haggling we bring it to the shop, the trip is over 2800 Miles, plus we need to drive to New York (another 516 miles). We will need a comfortable ride, that handles well, and can go the distance constantly pushing high speeds without any issues, threw varying temperatures and weather, it will need to have a large capacity Fuel tank, it will need to keep the driver and navigator/co-driver safe in the event of an accident and it will need to be semi-inconspicuous. We'll have to see what we can't come up with. Nick
  12. I like your thinking So far guys. I'll have to get some pictures of my starting point.
  13. Jacen it is a mix mash of the two, the Movie is actually a fairly close representation of the real races, as Hal Needham wrote the movie and participated in the real races as well with his Dodge Sportsman Ambulance. As far as the running from the Police end of it, in the first ever real Cannonball Run memorial trophy dash in 1972 Brock Yates the developer of the real races mentions this in a story about his car and what happened in the races: "Work by super builder-designer Ron Nash—suspension and brake modifications, a Holley 800-cfm carb, Crager headers, Goodrich T/A radials, transmission oil cooler and other trick parts plus prototype Cibie driving lights and an experimental Autotronics Super Snooper radar unit with a maximum range of five miles—made the car a quiet, sure-fire, 130-mph winner. That was effectively nullified by a hectic departure (a fantastic collection of food was left at curbside, meaning a Coast-to Coast diet of M&Ms and Cokes) and a half-hour hideout behind a gas station after a trucker was heard broadcasting a description of the car to the Smokeys. Running behind schedule, route improvisations were made that lost even more time." Nick I've added yo uto the list 64SS350 Edit: went back and read again in the last race Brock Yates teamed up with Hal Needham
  14. Thanks Jim, little update, got some paint on it, and got the 427 together. Paint still needs cleared then polished. Nick
  15. The paint is testors enamel brushed on in about 6 coats, it's rough, but I can save it. Nick
  16. Okay I've gone threw and made corrections and added people to the list, Remember if it fits the guidelines close enough it goes. Nick
  17. Glad you chimed in Rob, I wasn't 100% sure and could only get the SAE forums to go back 4 years, thank you.
  18. Thanks guys, The Toronto Metro car I built last year, won a second place last year at the show that I bought this kit at this year. I use Duplicolor's Light Grey primer, always have. as for the tires I tried every set of tires I own on this car, I had to compromise, these were the best I had, everything was either too small or too big, I even whacked a bit out of the springs and I still had the same problem. Nick
  19. Rob, Count me in, I have a very nasty '69 T bird Glue bomb annual that needs some love. It will be sort of a resto mod. Have a front bumper & bumper pan on order from modelhaus. Nick
  20. Very cool, Glad to see someone building one of these I have 7 that I'll eventually get to. Nick
  21. .............Okay not really...................but sort of........................................................................................ Bought this bel air in the condition of the first four pictures below from a friend and member here Howard Cohen at the Ajax 32 show back in October. It was so Different I couldn't pass it up. Shortened the axles, parts boxed the wheels, tires and wheel backs, parts boxed the engine, 427 BB from a Revell '68 Vette. After some primer. Posing with my '57 150 TMP car Nick
  22. And now the new Progress: Scratchbuilt an all new bed. Added a set of mud flaps made of real rubber. Added a set of parts box gas caps for those dual tanks Nick
  23. Started this one November 21 2010, yeah over 2 years ago. Anyway been working on finishing it. What I started with Some progress After paint, old bed shown as it sat when I pulled it back out of the box a month or so ago
  24. Rob I never thought of that, good call, I think I will limit it to 2 entries per participant. Having a guy with the experience of the past races is a great asset. I added you to the list because you have an entry for sure, I actually chose something this afternoon while looking for something else. I'll be using the AMT '57 Chevy Street Machine (the newer ERTL Tool, freakin' beautiful kit) Nick Edit: When everyone else has decided on what they'll be building I'll add you to the list, it is easier this way.
  25. First off Welcome to Sixth annual Cannonball Run, after I had an open pole on the Forum, the theme with the most votes ended up being Unlimited. "I'd like to welcome you all to an event that's sometimes been called the Automotive counterpart to the Bay of Pigs." "You are certainly the most distinguished group of highway scofflaws and degenerates ever gathered together in one place" "Of course you know certain skeptics note that perhaps 10,000 of the nation's most elite highway patrolmen are out there waiting for us after we start, but let's stay positively: Think of the fact that there's not one state in the 50 that has the death penalty for speeding... although I'm not so sure about Ohio." Now before we get going we need to remember that your vehicle will have to follow a few guidelines. Remember we are racing on City, County, and State Roads and Streets, so we need to be "Street Legal" Below are some quick guidelines I came up with after referencing several State Guidelines and my Copy of the Highway Traffic Act. Headlights. Taillights. Turn signals License plates both front and rear. (If Applicable) (Depends on the State or Province you live in whether you have 2 or 1) Seat-belts. (more of a recommendation in our application) Windshield glass if applicable, or if no windshield, a helmet must be worn. Permanently fixed fuel tank that is not fully exposed. Tires that are approved by the DOT to be used on public roads (no racing slicks). (We may let this one slide) Hood – you need one. Hood scoops or air intakes can’t be more than 10 inches higher than hood surface. (Some States & Provinces) Again these are general guidelines to even it out a bit. So lets get to the Start Date: January 1st 2013 End Date: December 1st 2013 Now the Rules Rules: 1.) First rule, as per Jantrix, this is all about having fun. 2.) You must show a picture of the kit, collection of parts, or re-builder that you are starting with. If it is possible try to post at least 1 update per month even if it just says "I haven't finished any work, but I'm still here..." 3.) On December 1, 2013 I will start a new thread in the "Under Glass" section for everyone to post their finished entry's, you must post their to be included in the voting. I'm still not sure what we'll do about prizes yet, but I'll straiten that out and make an announcement in the CBP when we have made a decision. 4.) Multiple entries are allowed. So guys Have Fun and we'll see you in Redondo Beach! Entries: 1.) Nick Winter- '57 Chevy Bel Air 2.) Jantrix- Hemi Daytona Spyder. 3.) zenrat- Toyota Land Cruiser 80 4.)
