  1. Nice work, looks like a fun project.
  2. Started working on this today: It's called a "skeeter", sort of a poor mans super modified. And in fact that's what I'm basing the chassis on, the old Monogram Don Edmunds Super Modified. I got the resin body years ago. Like I said, the chassis is mostly from the old Monogram kit. I moved the roll cage rearward a little bit and made the front and rear bumpers, and side nerf bars from Evergreen .080" rod. The wing is also made from scratch using Evergreen .010" sheet. Instead of the kit fuel injection I think this engine will have triple carburetors to more fit the theme of lower budget racer. What do y'all think?
  3. You and me both!
  4. Funny you should ask. I still need to add the header flange/cap to the headers. But what's funny is that I rarely, and I mean almost never, spend any time on the underside of a model. This one, like all of my models, is going to sit on my shelf and nobody will ever see the chassis again. Because of this I never seem to be willing to do anything more than just add the minimum parts needed to hold the wheels on and then just shoot the whole deal with flat black and be done with it. I don't know what made me want to do more with this model but, trust me, it's pretty unusual!
  5. Not really. The engine went in pretty easy. The headers were another matter and they have been trimmed pretty radically in places you can't really see to get them in.
  6. Just finished this Revell '57 Ford. Mostly stock except for the wheels and tires which came from a Monogram '65 Mustang GT-350 kit. Paint is Testors Graphite Gray Metallic and Classic Black over Gray primer. And what about the Holman-Moody logo on the front fender? Oh, that's for the engine: The Holman-Moody Ford 429 NASCAR engine came from a Polar Lights Torino kit. Comments and critique are welcome and encouraged.
  7. Well, you have to careful. I used Scotch painters tape (that blue stuff) and it did pull up some small bubbles in the foil in a couple of places. Fortunately I simply pressed them back down and it was okay.
  8. That's okay Jesse, this car never raced under a NASCAR sanction.
  9. Oh, I suppose I could. Hard to keep the non-flexible paint on them while they're being installed. Even harder to paint them after installation without getting at least some paint where you don't want it. Not really worth the effort when, realistically, no one will probably ever get to see under the hood.
  10. Excellent job on a really interesting subject.
  11. That is definitely not the easiest kit to build. Yours looks terrific.
  12. Thank you on both counts!
  13. As does; "Nice build" when responding to the post of a completed model on a forum like this.
  14. Don't take my word for it: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/build?show=0&t=1393537065
  15. Both of those examples are very different than using the word to describe an object. They are examples of using the word to describe the state or condition of an object.
  16. Same here Harry! I have over 250 completed models in my collection and there's not a single "build" in the bunch! You can try to justify it all you want by claiming that's it's used on other forums, popular TV shows, whatever, the fact remains that's poor grammar!
  17. Simple, it's a verb not a noun. 1build verb \ˈbild\ : to make (something) by putting together parts or materials : to develop or form (something) gradually : to increase the amount of (something) Verb: A word that is usually one of the main parts of a sentence and that expresses an action, an occurrence as in; "We will build a model car." Noun: a word that is the name of something and is typically used in a sentence as subject or object of a verb or as object of a preposition as in; That's a nice model." It's just poor grammar to use "build" as a noun. Popular usage doesn't make it correct usage.
  18. I got the engine finished up this morning. I drilled out the distributor and head for plug wires only to find that I'm completely out of black plug wires! I don't really feel like waiting until I can order more so it goes in as is! And I'm not totally convinced that these engines were raced like this, especially with those pretty but restrictive stock air cleaners. But, I can't find any good photos for proof. And, technically, this whole thing doesn't belong in the NASCAR section because Mundy mostly raced under AAA and USAC sanction.
  19. Yea, I think this one scales out to 1/41 or something like that. In those days most airplane models were scaled to whatever it took to fit in the same size box.
  20. Yes, Monogram did a version of the 180 with floats. One will show up on eBay from time to time.
  21. Thanks Bruce, but it's funny, for a simple, one color, non metallic paint job this thing kicked my butt. I repainted the roof three times before I got it right! But yea, I do love the graphics on this car.
  22. This is a car that I've wanted to do for years. I had to not only wait for Hudson kits to hit the market but for decals to be available too! It's not completely finished yet because I haven't done the engine. I may or may not install one, we'll see. By the way, these are Power Slide decals and are probably the best decals I've ever used. . . . ever! Anyway, I just love the colors and graphics and how well they work on this car!
  23. If you need reference photos to get the body shape, I can help. Pavement late models are primarily what I shoot. Check for more here: http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/racin/
  24. Nice project. I'm sure you'll nail it.
