  1. Do you have a PB folder of your building process and Under Glass that I can download?
  2. If you're going to display a model, just put it on a Rubbermaid lazy susan with a mirror underneath. No model should ever be picked up.
  3. I certainly learned everything I wanted to know -- including the fact that this level of skill and detail are way beyond my capabilities. An absolute masterpiece. Now that the snow's gone, how about some outdoor shots? I bet it will be indistinguishable from the real car. I bet no one ever thought that this Aurora kit could ever come out like this. These old timers may look simple, but that's obviously a misconception.
  4. Yup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rc06258.jpg
  5. Speaking of monsters on wheels, the 1910 Blitzen Benz would be a great kit. "Powered by a huge 21.5 liter (approximately 1300 cubic-inches) engine that produced 200 horsepower, the car immediately began setting speed records in Germany, Belgium, and at Brooklands in England. Fulfilling the design objectives, the flying-start one-kilometer record was set at 202.7 km/h." http://www.conceptcarz.com/events/eventVehicle.aspx?carID=14215&eventID=184&catID=1427
  6. I think you will find just as many, if not more, antique and classic cars in this category --probably more. Take a look at the typical 1/16 listings on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Automotive-/2580/i.html?_nkw=1%2F16&_armrs=1&_from=R10&_ipg=&_pcats=1188%2C220&_sop=10
  7. It's a dead ringer for what it isn't.
  8. Here are some modeler critiques on the Aston... http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/13516-1-8-th-db5.html Modified builds http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/68038-aston-martin-db5-scale-1-8-a.html Building journal http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/78989-1-8-aston-martin-db5-james-bond.html
  9. I don't know if this helps, but here's how the spokeless wheels are assembled on the 1/16 Revell kit.
  10. Awesome wheels. A quick check of my 1/16 Revell model shows that the inside of the brakes totally hides any view of wheel spokes.
  11. Here's a larger picture of the car with the cream frame rails. Very cool. Here's the car restored to its Vanderbilt Cup livery, as featured on the "Americarna" show.
  12. Even with the disc wheel covers on, wouldn't you see at least a bit of the wires on the inside of the wheels? Or do the brake drums cover them completely? Of course, you could make the discs removable like the real thing... Another touch would be to add lighted vanity mirrors inside the fixed top...[endless, isn't it?]
  13. You might be able to add an engine. It's a triple T-head. You might see if the show is on YouTube. EDIT: You can find some short clips here... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=americarna%20vanderbilt%20cup&sm=12 PS: The show will air again on Velocity HD this coming Thursday, March 13, at 10 pm Eastern. Interesting note: Evernham observed that the Black Beast may have been the first instance of race car cheating, since it was 80 hp over the maximum allowable horsepower.
  14. cato... When I worked in a restoration shop, my path to work was some of the streets of Huntington that were once the Vanderbuilt course. Some of those back streets and houses were probably just like they were in '08... There's a new series on the Velocity channel called "Americarna" with Hendrick Motorsports crew chief Jeff Evernham as host. Today, there was a rebroadcast of of their show on the Vanderbilt Cup races in Long Island from 1904-1910, featuring the restored Alco "Black Beast (Bete Noire)" that won the 09-10 races. It has a discussion of the role of the "mechanician," as mentioned in one of these related threads, and great vintage photos and movie film (the first sports movies ever). Keep your eyes open and see if it it comes up again. [i think Velocity is on HD channels only.]
  15. A couple of years ago, the product manager for Revell and his late partner appeared on an Internet podcast where they said that Revell saw no future in producing any more large-scale models. This was just after the Revell 1/12 Mustang came out. Therefore, even though Trumpeter came out with a big Ford GT 40 about then, which was not well received on this forum, I wouldn't expect anything other than the reissue of older kits, such as the 1/12 Foose Camaro and the Airfix 1/12 Bentley. Most of the large-scale kits will only be available on eBay in older versions. Pity, since they allow for so much more detailing, especially for older fingers like mine. In terms of large scale, the most available kits are older 1/16 kits of vintage cars, and no one seems to be making them any more. There are large-scale and hugely expensive kits of partially pre-made Ferraris and Porsches, but this is not a big industry.
  16. ROBERT RODRIGUEZ knows how to make a movie. Just saw the first "Machete" movie, which is a totally straight-faced, satirical splatterfest without a wink, with an A-list cast (Robert DeNiro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Stephen Seagal, Don Johnson, et al) , and the silliest denouement you've ever seen [imagine Lindsay Lohan in a nun's habit blowing people away, nurses in microskirts with Uzis, and Jessica Alba riding off with Danny Trejo on a motorcycle, like Kim K and Kanye in their infamous video]. Looking forward to his TV series version of "From Dusk Til Dawn," beginning Tuesday at 9 on the ElRey network.
  17. What's wrong with trying to build a new generation of engineers and mechanics who can design and work on sophisticated, high-performance cars, and possibly bring those approaches to everyday cars at an affordable price? The technology, as Chrysler noted, has changed since the early Vipers, but many principles remain the same. Race cars and supercars have always been a laboratory for improvements in what we all drive today. As for trashing the early Vipers, it appears to be a legal thing, and I really don't care if they get scrapped. As also mentioned, Chrysler loaned the cars to the schools and still owned them, and couldn't possibly know what modifications had been made to them. Anyone remember the Porsche turbo case where the company had to pay millions to parents whose teenage child died because the parents let him drive the car? The liability is great.
  18. With the templates and plans, you could upsize the Hudson kits to any scale you want.
  19. Stunning stuff -- especially the USS Kidd, with its opening hatch doors. Bummer about the damage.
  20. You might send a PM to Hawk312 (David Eicherly) about this. He's done fabulous work on 1/12 Camaros.
  21. I'll mail it tomorrow.
  22. You have all my kits I have to print them out to size if your printer isn't working! Otherwise, you already have my file on the emblems.
  23. Do you have the exact dimensions you need?
