  1. Seems to me that most of the "ghost" kits mentioned in that thread were either before or in the earliest days of the Internet, and it would be very hard for them to have measured customer response.
  2. This illustrates the fine line between WIP and master tutorials that we occasionally see on this forum.
  3. Let's not forget that Revell is not the only game in town. and there are also competitive considerations about things that may be in the future. While some early announcements may fend off competitors, they could possibly have learned that they might be pre-empted by others with similar products coming out. But I'm with the others who think that all this conjecture is kind of silly if you don't know the facts, ma'am.
  4. Back in the mid-60s I could have had a Graham identical to this one, with all its Cord-related parts, for under $1,800 at a small, very seedy used car lot. My Dad wouldn't spring for it.
  5. This one is very sneaky in a few ways. But I'll guess real.
  6. That happened to me. When I received it from the eBay seller, all the roof pillars were deformed and the rear glass was cracked. I returned it to the seller. These larger kit boxes are not very strong, and stacking other things on top can lead to being cracked or deformed over time.
  7. My '84 had them. I'm surprised yours didn't. But your picture of the kit body is perfect.
  8. Here is an eBay bookmark I use to occasionally check on 1/16 car kits and parts. Often, kits are parted out here. You can change 1/16 in the search field to any scale you want. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Automotive-/2580/i.html?_nkw=1%2F16&_armrs=1&_from=R10&_ipg=&_pcats=1188%2C220&_sop=10
  9. Batman will appear in the next "Superman" sequel. Ben Affleck was named to play him, but he withdrew after a very negative outcry by fans, even though he played Daredevil in a failed movie. Who should play him? My votes are for Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest), Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera), Eric Bana (Troy, Munich) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men). I wouldn't select performers who are known for other major franchises like Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman.
  10. No sooner said than done. Here's Marvin's reply: "Hi Skip, They have developed the tooling and are producing the Kits in China in one for their factories. Marvin" Makes sense when you consider that Hornby, as one of the world's leading manufacturers of model trains, has been more than a distributor for decades. And as owner of Airfix and other brands, that makes them a model kit manufacturer as well.
  11. I sent that question to Marvin at modelmotorcars.com. He may know, and he's usually good about answering my questions.
  12. Academy is usually co-branded with Minicraft these days. A very large number of their kits are re-boxed versions from a variety of other manufacturers, so it's a mixed bag for quality.
  13. One thing I've noted on many of these kits is that most builders omit the somewhat ripply, body-colored coatings along the rocker panels and the rear wheel well stone guards.
  14. Hornby bought the Pocher brand in 2004 after the prior owners went bankrupt.
  15. In looking it up, one very much like the real one you show was identified as having changed from hard tires to pneumatic tires a few years later, which could explain a wheel change.
  16. If you follow F1, these guys can pull off a pit stop in under 3 seconds. That's not possible in NASCAR, where a limited crew can only change tires on one side at a time and have to go to the other side.
  17. Are you going to swap out the wheels? The kit wheels look more period-correct than the real one.
  18. Why do we have two parallel threads on the same subject?
  19. Yeah...why do we have two threads on the identical subject?
  20. There is value to me to find a built kit (cheap) that can serve as reference for a kit I want to build. Since I build largely in 1/16 and above with a high parts count, that means (1) the ability to see a large number of parts for building reference and (2) Because most of my kits are older and out of production, and if I'm missing some small parts in those older kits, I have a back-up without spending for an unbuilt kit. EXAMPLE: I recently bought a built 1/16 Rolls Phantom II very cheaply, which provides build reference for my own Phantom II kits, and has the correct wheels for my 1/16 Phantom III kit.
  21. Another big winner. I don't know how you do such fine detail like adding the color to the T-Bird logo badges.
  22. Great job! What's the scale?
  23. You can also get much sharper and longer-lasting surgical steel blades that fit X-Acto handles.

  25. Cool. I see it can be built with either round or square headlights.
