Building old kits is... (fill in the blank)
sjordan2 replied to vwdave92's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build mostly large-scale 1/16 and 1/12 vintage kits of vintage cars, which allow my fat fingers to deal with detail better, and provide subjects that either don't exist or aren't well done in smaller scales. As for the Aurora/Monogram Maserati 3500 GTi that jaymcminn mentioned, that's really an argument against vintage kits; so many things are off with that kit - flash, sink marks, incorrect body and engine parts - it would take a far better builder than I am to make it look right. -
Great start. Now you need to build the rest of the circus - big top, train, animal wagons....

Just amazing. Now all you need is a metal chassis/suspension.

The link to emodelcars.com is on the home page, which I never visit, and once you get there, its url is for modelcarsmag.com/auction. Why not just add it to the regular forum topics as well, and mirror it? Or at least include the link on all site pages, not merely Home. I don't really understand the rule about no buying or selling on the forum. If there's a legal thing, I think Terms of Use should take care of that. Or is there a site registration complication regarding forum non-members who would buy or sell?

The World Has Lost A True AMERICAN HERO...
sjordan2 replied to modelmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's amazing to think of the courage it took for these guys to strap themselves to a 1960s rocket and do what they did. And Armstrong was a true, straight-arrow American hero without blemishes. -
TOP TEN LIST--WHAT IS YOURS?
sjordan2 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm with you, except you left off Grey Goose, Skyy and my cheapo favorite, Svedka. Which is heinous because Smirnoff belongs WAY down the list and Stoli should be much higher. -
Here's what Wikipedia has to say about cars sold in the U.S. Some cars are sold with carbs in developing countries because they're easier and cheaper to work on, but I didn't find any brand names. "Carburetors were the usual method of fuel delivery for most US-made gasoline-fueled engines up until the late 1980s, when fuel injection became the preferred method.[6] In the U.S. market, the last carbureted cars were: 1990 (General public) : Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, Buick Estate Wagon, Honda Prelude (2.0 S Base Model) 1991 (Police) : Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with the 5.8 L (351 cu in) engine. 1991 (SUV) : Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the AMC 360 engine. 1993 Mazda B2200 (Light Truck) 1994 (Light truck) : Isuzu[7] In Australia, some cars continued to use carburetors well into the 1990s; these included the Honda Civic until 1993, Daihatsu Charade until 1997, the Suzuki Swift until its end in 1999, as well as the Ford Laser (1994), Mazda 323 sedan (1996), and Mitsubishi Magna sedan (1996). Low-cost commercial vans and 4WDs in Australia continued with carburetors even into the 2000s, the last being the Mitsubishi Express van in 2003.[citation needed] Elsewhere, certain Lada cars used carburetors until 2006. Many motorcycles still use carburetors for simplicity sake, and since a carburetor does not require an electrical system to function. Carburetors are still found in small engines and in older or specializedautomobiles, such as those designed for stock car racing, though NASCAR's 2011 season was the last one with carbureted engines; electronic fuel injection is used beginning with the 2012 race season.[8]"

Need some info on photo hosting sites

Firefox may be your problem. I got a Firefox updater automatically sent to me a few months ago, and once I installed it I found I couldn't use Firefox any more because it didn't work with 10.4, and there was no way I could reinstall the prior version because it's obsolete. No problem since I went to Safari. It's just another browser and still works with 10.4. But there are all kinds of apps, etc., that you can't use unless you upgrade your OS, and it's just going to get worse. No need to get a new computer, just get a newer OS. I don't know what the limitations are concerning your particular system. -
I'm an award-winner now!

I have an intel core duo iMac with OS 10.4 and have no problem with Photobucket using Safari. I haven't used the bulk uploader, though there's no problem clicking on multiple images to upload. As of the past few months, Firefox no longer supports this old OS, and Explorer stopped supporting Mac years ago. -
Problem with photo uploader
sjordan2 replied to Doctordarryl's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't use this site's uploader. There is a small limit to the amount you can upload and you've probably used it up. -

That looks just about right, Jeff. Thanks to all of you. -
It's hard to say how "willing" Daimler Benz and just about every other German industrial company was, but they certainly were major contributors to Hitler's war machine. And, in the automotive part of their business, they provided many staff, parade and personal cars for Reich members. Mercedes executives Uhlenhaut and Porsche served a couple of years in prison after the war. It's even claimed that VW solicited slave labor from the Nazis. But I would grant this particular car special dispensation if I were Leno. Countess Von Krieger was dating a Jewish man, worked to protect him, fled to Switzerland with the car to escape the Nazis, and then took it with her to New York. The car sat in a Connecticut barn for decades. But if Mercedes' Nazi participation is the problem, there are plenty of cool pre-Nazi and postwar Mercedes to collect. Of course, if people were to boycott products from nations with dastardly deeds in their history (including the U.S.) nobody would buy anything from anybody and commerce would cease to exist. For example, Ming vases are highly prized collector's items and go for millions, never mind that the Ming dynasty was known for brutality and slaughter. In any case, SOMEBODY is going to spend $15 to $20 million for this car.

What's the big deal? You're only spending $1 million per second for performance from 0 to 60.
