  1. No thanks- modern advances in tires as well as suspension and brake technology make it possible to have a real car with power and decent handling without having to resort to girlie cars
  2. Thanks- those are the kits I have with the "440" hoods. The other "plain" hoods seem to be copies of the old Monogram 1/24 Road Runner "Satellite"- I'll have to pull out one of my kits to see if that hood looks like it could be made to fit and how the "bulges" look size-wise
  3. Managed to accumulate the following in the past couple months- three original '71 GTXs, three original '71 Road Runners,a Petty NASCAR Plymouth, four original '72 'Runners (plus a few resin kits), a couple original '73s- one built with the optional Baja parts and Suburbanite snow "off road" tires all around as well as some '72 Chargers, a '74 annual, and a couple "Super Charger" reissues (as well as plenty of the yellow '71 Road Runner reissues and AMT '71 Chargers for builders and additional parts
  4. The "Viva" is the private brand Goodyear makes for Wal-Mart (So they're built to a price point and anyone can tell where you shop for tires)
  5. Who's currently offering a copy of the hood as found in the MPC '72 Roadrunner kit? I have a few of the AFXnScale '72 kits but they came with a '71 GTX style with cast-in "ribs" in the depressions and "440" callouts. Am looking for the "plain" double "bulge" hood- Bandit Resins describes theirs as what I've already got and the Modelhaus just seems to do the '71 Air Grabber
  6. The AFX stuff is currently available on ebay- check lots-stuff-4-sale
  7. I usually just do a fairly light scuffing by hand with some 400 grit- mostly the tread- a little on the sidewall for a painted white letter or white/red/blue/goldwall then a misting of dullcote
  8. Would love to see a '72 Charger Rallye with the standard grille and '73-'74 Charger SE with the "opera" quarter window treatment Bonus for molded in inner fender detail, correct door panels, and designed around the AMT '71 as a donor Also 71-72 Road Runner body and interior parts to be a direct fit Bucket seats a little larger than the old MPCs to fit the same cars with the correct upholstery patterns and AMT Charger interior An accurate and properly sized console for the 71'74 B and E body Mopars (I'm willing to modify for the 70 E body)
  9. Yeah- there doesn't seem to be much going on as far as models on the upper east side of the lower peninsula I just got called for winter work so I'm stuck on a boat tied up in Sarnia, Canada (across the bridge from Port Huron) for at least the next couple weeks
  10. For Replica stock Mopars this place is hard to beat http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/library.shtml
  11. I live in a remote area with no LHS, if you know what sizes you're looking for you can usually find what you're looking for on the popular auction site for a reasonable "Buy it Now" price
  12. First new kit I got was the snap SWAT Chevy van Followed by the two color orange and yellow Mazda pickup then some more 1/32 snap kits- 55 Chevy street machine, 57 Fairlane, and '57 Vette First glue kit was a Revell '57 Bel Air with opening everything and molded in an awful hot pink color- didn't turn out well, especially with the old "Sniff-Proof" glue When visiting my grandparents I did get to make some custom creations from a big box of stuff that remained of my uncle's late 60's model collection. Also ended up with a carton containing unboxed kits of most of the '71 MPC annuals
  13. The Landy kit does come with a '68 back seat As noted, their is no stock air cleaner or iron manifolds for the Hemi and no 440 option Built a '68 years ago with this kit and the '69, it took a nasty spill soon after and is stashed away awaiting a rebuild- Don't have the unbuilt kit to compare with the photos. I went with headers hooked up to the full dual exhaust and robbed a chrome dome air cleaner from another kit The body is the same as the earlier '69 but without the vinyl top texture molded in- it still has the '69 side marker reflectors which would need to be filled for a '68 as well (although the body will save quite a bit of sanding if you're building a "General Lee or other non- vinyl top '69
  14. Found some more orphan Mopars on ebay- twenty bucks for a complete, original issue 71 Road Runner with a little glue damage, ten for a '77 Volare non-T-top missing the hood and back bumper, and probably more than I should have spent on an original '72 Road Runner body and grille and Petty Road Runner in pieces broke now and time to get off the computer and back building Also ordered a couple "street machine" version AMT '71 Chargers for parts and a sealed 80's issue MPC '71 Road Runner
  15. I finished two last year- it was a strange and new experience (of course I had started and painted both ten years earlier)
  16. Lately I've been getting just as distracted disassembling and cleaning up models that were built by someone else years ago For me it doesn't even have to be fresh The "fresh" plastic means "donor kit" (although even if I have a dozen of the same kit I can't keep from opening them all and feeling around )
  17. Ford did seem to have a bit more money to spend to disguise the Falcon- and their management was listening more to the sales and marketing departments after the damage caused by McNamara and the bean counters If a Barracuda lineup similar to the '67s was available in 64 I think there would have been a bit more competition
  18. The early Hemis came from the factory in many displacements: Chrysler FirePower 51-56 331 56-57 354 57-58 392 DeSoto Firedome 52-54 276 55 291 56 330 57 341 57 345 Dodge Red Ram 53-54 241 55 270 56 315 57 325
  19. Been meaning to build one or two of these since the "purple car" issue first came out but just now got around to getting a couple Also found another orphan Mopar project, love the way they look but don't understand why the MPC Dusters are so hard to find at a decent price
  20. After a lengthy bath- there was a nasty red brush paint job under the black that was probably older than I am- looks like it should only need a little body work (tweaked A pillar, glue spots from the nose and wing). First mock up with the Charger parts
  21. Pretty much just the pattern of the seat upholstery in regards to the model version The real cars also used more aluminum pieces on the 60 model (radiator, heads on some optional engines) which in turn had problems. The '60 also had "traction bar" links added to the rear suspension
  22. .....For a '68 anyways
  23. All the proportions aren't necessarily the same when comparing to the 1:1 or especially to other kits of the same subject- best bet is to base decals on a particular body rather than assuming they'll fit properly by making them a certain scale Maybe make a set to check the fit (just use regular paper to see how they fit) and then adjust an electronic file till you've got exactly what you want- then print as decals
  24. Was wanting to do a stock version- will see how this body cleans up and how the nose comes off, have some of the thin, yellow 80's RR bodies and this one is just a lot cooler- sharper detail (and the only version with the hood pin lanyards molded in the header panel) Was going to go with the AMT Charger chassis and (modified) interior
  25. On an MPC '74 Charger kick- got an original, a built and an unbuilt "Super Charger"
