Revell '70 Challenger Issues

Or swap out the engine with a decent 340 Tough to make a decent looking model out of this particular kit anyways with the awful slab-sides to the body- the older issues of the Monogram 1/24 seems to have more potential than the recent converted die cast -
Actually on the 1:1 cars the floor pan stampings are identical (with adjustments for wheelbase differences between Barracuda, Challenger, and B body 2 and 4 doors found in the rear seat foot well area) 68-70 B bodies a different animal all together Result is that the "stamping details" from the AMT Charger are much more accurate than the fairly crude AMT Challenger- just, as you pointed out, much more work to fit to the 'cuda

What other AMT B Bodies? The '71 Charger was pretty much all they offered other than some MPC reissues Chassis needs to be shortened a few scale inches and differnr rear section- but like the 1:1's the 71-72 B bodies and 70-74 E bodies, basically the same car mechanically

10 seconds is a bit of exaggeration for a stock L72 as well... Basically the same car as a Camaro- although the Nova was more likely to be built with less options than a typical Camaro

Probably would have been easier to start by backdating an easy to find ERTL (ex-MPC) 'cuda- the 1/25 "conversions" are basically just copies of the original MPC annual and has a decent interior as well The MPC is arguably the nicest body- much better than Monogram and Revell attempts The AMT 71 Charger is also a decent basis for an accurate E body chassis

Any plans on improving/ casting the Yodel 77-78 Fury grille? Almost bought a kit just for the grille not too long ago- have a bunch of 75-78 B body projects....

What research did you need to do on shocks? OE units would be black 1" bore Oriflow units, dust shields front and rear, should have a small paint dab on the reserve tube near the lower eye to color code different OE part numbers Are you sure about the resonator in the exhaust system? All the info I've come across only shows them on factory dual installations, single exhaust from 198 through 383 2 barrel seem to have just used the muffler and turndown -
And if there are any turns in the road, the 340 T/A will leave the Hemi car behind as well

Hyper Pack was a setup available over the counter for racing and not on option on any production car- wild cam, long runner intake (much longer runners than a "normal" aftermarket 4 barrel intake) and headers The die cast aluminum block was a first year experiment intended for light, economy use (think the new Valiant)rather than performance. In fact the aluminum blocks were considered fragile enough to be avoided for performance use -
Isn't a Hemi Challenger T/A a bit like a '69 Big Block Z-28

Does the valve cover have the early-style "ribs" like the stock Lindberg engine? Would be interested in a couple, but making the valve cover "smooth" (and correct for a late 60's-70s application) would save me a step How about an air cleaner (similar to the Lindberg but with the "square" snorkel? -
Metal wire bent to shape with a thin coat of acrylic paint Braided beading threaders work good for the wires with external braided shielding on older Vettes

Only problem is it looks like you followed the (incorrect) instructions from the chassis and mounted the horn on the firewall where the wiper motor would go

Looks like a hacked 92-94 Chevy Blazer based on the interior with a later model grille

Picked up a few later Mopars- Sealed inside 77 Monaco annual, built 78 annual, a couple built "Force 440's", and one of the few reasonably priced 75 Road Runners out there- also found a decent buy on a Sealed Fuzz Duster Volare Also a few inexpensive older MPCs (thirty bucks for the '71 GTX, complete with only the body painted, sixty for the 71 RR sealed inside, 99 cents plus shipping for the 78 Vettes) and a couple funky 70s buildups

What is an annual kit?

The annuals were usually produced by the company who had the contract with the automaker to produce the promos The choice of subject matter was determined more by the car company rather than the model company and the emphasis usually on an accurate body and decent but simple interior rather than a lot of chassis detail or accurate engines Tooling was updated for cars that used the same body style for a number of years- some were later reissued as street machine or race cars and then modified back to stock years later- this is why many of the reissues have body issues, strange combinations of parts included, or if the subject was only offered in stock form the latest year of the promo is the version that still exists -
Tailpipe does look a bit short, especially with all the other detail added

A car Chrysler should have put together "back in the day" when Ford ads were trying to convince us the Granada looked just like a Mercedes Benz and Oldsmobile was selling "international styled" Cutlass Salon. '78 was also the last year of the big block Chrysler, a year earlier Car and Driver even did a road test of the police package Mopar and found it more capable than contemporary "performance" cars Start with the "Blues Brothers formula"- cop tires, cop brakes, cop shocks- and the police pursuit 440. Maybe borrow the 15x8 slotted steel wheels from the F body Super Coupe. Make it spiffier than the cop car though- offer the buckets and console from the 2 door with a Tuff wheel, silver paint with some black accents- maybe a special blacked out grille For the build a simple mix of parts from the MPC Monaco police car and 2 door, improve the chassis details (in '75 Mopar B bodies got actual inner fenders)

On the 1:1 the tailpanel is the same- the later model kits just feature the aluminum trim panel over the bottom half of the rear panel Taillights themselves the same Would seem to be an easier fix than correcting the grille Grille is the same basic shape 73-74 compared to 75-76- the grille texture and parking lights are different- 73-74 is also a bit "flatter" Also make sure the big rubber bumper guards are in place for 73-74 -

The JoHan '63 Dodge- while uncommon- isn't too hard to find here in the US
