  1. We live in a house that's been in our family since it was built in the early 1870s- my great-great grandfather and later my great grandfather had a small store and tavern that's built into the front of the house, a section of which was my old work area. We decided to renovate and change the area to more living space. We also have another old building right next to the house that was at the stage of needing a roof if we wanted to save it- we also decided to sheet and wrap it- still needs some more work but have most of the stuff moved in Made up a work bench out of some of the old bins we were tearing out of the store as well as saving some old shelving
  2. Great stance!
  3. Figured what better to replicate early 70's belted 70 series tires than with early 70's vintage AMT tires Motivation will be an AMT Duster 340 but with an automatic
  4. Did some preliminary cutting- hacked the fenderwells out of the Challenger body and took a section out of the chassis and gas tank. Some rummaging around showed the front section of the rear springs is the same length as the AMT Duster which also provides a decent 8-3/4 rear and shocks. Found an extra Monogram hood and trimmed a bit off the front
  5. On another note- It always amazes me how heated any General Lee thread seems to get around here
  6. Starting with an almost-complete MPC annual with a few glue issues but swapping in the chassis and fenderwells from an AMT '70 Challenger for a little better detail without too much extra work. Thinking the can I have of Testors "Big Bad Blue" is close enough to Basin Street Blue and will try the flat black hood paint treatment and color keyed grille. A black vinyl top should help minimize the body work I'll need to do to fix the melted spots from the half tube of glue the original builder used to put in the glass. After seeing how nicely the white seats cleaned up I decided to go with a new interior from a snap kit- this one will have black interior and I'll save the white parts for a white interior build As with the 1:1 the Challenger wheelbase is a little longer requiring a bit of work
  7. Actually both kits seemed to have started as the clear-bodied Richard Petty Charger- the blower, stock seats, and 71-72 style hidden headlight grille added to make the street machine- the General Lee body and wheels being hastily switched to cash in on the Dukes craze the first time around
  8. Sorry to have given an opinion that the photoetched leaves looked gimmicky and less like an actual set of leaf springs than a well detailed set from the decent kit parts- obviously the person who spent the money on the stuff would feel a bit chapped- but I really don't know of a more helpful suggestion other than not using those particular parts I was a huge Dukes fan when it was on originally and did purchase several seasons on DVD out of nostagia, but to pick apart details from a cheesy show which wasn't anywhere near accurate on any level is ridiculous Have a beer, enjoy Daisy, and calm down a bit
  9. The grammar was poor enough in some of the previous posts that it made them difficult to read. Also, taking the time to construct sentences and checking spelling can be viewed as good manners and shows respect to fellow members. This may be more noticeable to those from a generation who didn't grow up with the internet or texting, but decent English still is an effective tool for communication and worth the minimal extra effort.
  10. Nice job on the build though I'm not convinced the springs are worth the effort- the kits plastic setup looks more like a Mopar suspension (but obviously doesn't have that "wow" factor) Can the tie plates be rotated and the tab bent to make a decent "Chrysler style" lower shock mount? (cantilevered pin from the plate- eye for both ends of the shock)
  11. Depends on the application- 69-71 HP 383s were Street Hemi Orange (although some A/C equipped were turquoise) "Regular" non HP 383s were turquoise
  12. Actually shoddy workmanship could make it more true to the 1:1 Lees Details like missing dash trim and console top covers seem a common theme on interior shots when watching the show Plenty of weathering as well- when the show was running these were "built" from 10-15 year old beater used cars when cars were normally worn out well before that
  13. Seems to be an option, similar to the molding around the inside of the gravel pan opening
  14. It's an AMT Hemi- not one from the Revell Dart And the cross ram says "race hemi rather than street" I'd imagine it's going into something that wouldn't take it in the 1:1 world...
  15. I don't know about those trucks- they just seem to look like a more aerodynamic ripoff of this one....
  16. On the budget side- got all this for about fifty bucks plus shipping from that auction site (also got a new camera but need some more practice with it to get my own decent pics so used ones from there) Built up MPC '78 'Vette (I still remember having to ride around crammed in one of these with my parents and sister when I was 12 or so- the new '84 Cavalier 4 door it was traded in on was actually a big improvement) Mint '78 Volare promo Finally got some missing parts for some built up Volares I've had for some time- one needed a hood, the other a front bumper/grille MPC '80 Camaro annual- one of the years I was missing And another one of these ugly things- "accidently" won for a low starting bid and arrived packed with a '77 Corvette brochure as a bonus
  17. The new issue of these kits come with two dashes- the one that fits is a copy of an old MPC piece (and is the "Charger" style with round gauges as correct for the '70 Super Bee)- the Road Runner/GTX dash Is included on one of the sprues as well I've also got a couple of the older AMT release but didn't check if they have both dashes On the 1:1 70 the Bee came standard with the round gauge dash while the R/T had the long rectangular speedometer style
  18. A couple of built '70 Challenger annuals and an original '70 'cuda on the way- can't resist the old MPCs
  19. Wasn't aware of an AMT Skyhawk although they did do some factory Monzas MPC made a '75 Skyhawk based on the Monza promo- comes with a small block Chevy (but no correct Buick V6) that can be built stock (HEI distributor and all) and is very similar other than emblems (like the 1:1) to the Chevy. All the stock Monza kits I'm aware of have the 4- headlight front end so, as you said, a custom header panel and hood (as well as interior trim) would have to be made up
  20. Nice engine but the distributor looks a bit "off"- seems to stick straight up like a Ford
  21. A couple Volares on the way- sealed non T-top '77 and a '79
  22. Got em all- did guess between the '52 and '54 Mercury though
  23. Hmmm- didn't see anything relevent in this post (except maybe a couple of pics of an Ardun flattie from the link)- certainly nothing on an Ardun 4 cylinder
  24. Was wondering about the red rotors myself- also hadn't seen the oil filter decal stuck to the fenderwell before either
