  1. I'll admit to not reading most of the responses, but a car is what you make it... My '97 civic gets 36mpg in the city and has cost me approx. $850, not counting oil changes, in 6 years of ownership. That cost being 2 timing belts/water pumps, and a catalytic converter - timing belts done just for maintenance, and because they are cheap (obviously I do my own labour) To the lesare/park avenue... hubs fail at a remarkable rate, "w" coded cars have terrible brakes, and ignition modules are expensive, but inevitable once or twice in the lifetime replacement. Intake gaskets every 80,000 - 100,000km on the 3.1l. Otherwise very reliable. S10 blazers..... stay away, VERY FAR away.... Intakes, then engines if not done properly, hubs fail even more frequently than the cars, front ends fall out and the 4x4 system fails, if the encoder goes out, like is has on almost everyone of my customers, your looking at a %1300 part, that is if it didn't throw you into 4low at 90km/hr. Yeah, I hate those trucks, though for me, they are very profitable. Do your research, ask as many questions as you can think of, demand maintenance records, and if you buy used, get a pre-purchase inspection, its worth the 45 bucks if it saves yo buying a lemon. A car is what you make it..... treat it good and it'll treat you goos, treat it like ######, and your gonna pay, literally.
  2. I didn't even know there was an ignore button. Personally I just look for the name of certain people and make sure I have fresh popcorn All I have to say about all this is WOW! Ladies and Gentlemen, Sanity has now left the building.
  3. I've been a licensed automotive journeyman for 5 years now. I build models because my wife says the real thing is to expensive But one day.....
  4. help out a simpleton here.... Whats this "409" in the tutorial?
  5. it has to be concentrated simple green apparently, I tried it with some of the spray stuff frmo Crappy Tire and it actually dulled it way down, definitely was a dust magnet however.
  6. Glad to see another Licensed Tech here. How many are there around anyway? Getting licenced was the best thing you will ever do, you'll never be out of work.
  7. This interior has been driving me absolutely nuts. I've stripped it 3 times to get it where it is at, and I'm still not happy, but I just don't have another go in me. Four paint jobs is good enough for now. Honest opinions everyone. What do you think? Should I strip it again? As always, thanks for looking
  8. Wish I had a workbench . Camaro interior is drying in pieces on the living room coffee table, hopefully assembled tonight.
  9. Looks great!!! I guess now I'll have something to go with my jackstands. Who's going to offer up a jack?
  10. I have to say, what I have seen come through my shop since the introduction of the caliber, has been leaps and bounds better that what they were producing in the late 90's and early 2000's. They really stepped it up at that model changup. But they have nothing on the gains Ford has made.
  11. Well, its been a while..... I just wasn't happy with the stance at all, the exhaust wasn't working for me, and I had a major mental block about jack stands. So over the last few months the chassis and engine got completely redone. The engine got repainted, a bugcatcher was found, and the headers were modified. The stance was corrected and the wheels sucked in closer to the frame, and some jackstands got built. See : http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36151&pid=377116&st=0&#entry377116 I'm very happy with the changes, to me, it is 100% better. Gonna start painting the interior tonight.
  12. Lebaron and New Yorker were the same Shadow and Sundace were the same Lebaron and Shadow were not the same. Though it is true that many parts interchanged between them, the platform did not. People also argue that the PT cruiser and the neon were build on the same platform, and they do not share a single similarity in floor pan. Believe what you want, everyone is entitled to there own interpretation of a term. In this case.. "platform" They way I interpret it is as above, but if it has been modified from that form, then it is "based on" such and such a platform, not "the same" platform
  13. 5" in wheel base alone is enough to call it a different platform I have worked on both several times in my line of work, they are very much different. There may be similarities, but I would never call a vehicle that has had "substancial" changes made, the same.
  14. You may want to check your facts on that one.....
  15. maybe "flow" is the wrong word. Once the paint has tacked a little, a small drop on the brush coats smaller bits, in one go. I find most acrylics tend to cover less in one coat compared to enamels, however, once tacked up, I find Tamiya paints behave much more like an enamel that I can get the same coverage out the same amount of applications. It does flow a little thicker at this point than most enamels though. Make any kind of sense at all? I may be doing a poor job describing what I mean..... I think that may be exactly what I'm getting at.
  16. I've found that for smaller bits, letting the paint tack a little causes it to flow much like enamal
  17. It's this "tack up" that I actually like about these paints. I find them very easy to manipulate the flow, which I find can make a huge difference in lighter colours.
  18. After searching for a bit, then not finding anything, measured some up at work, and ended up with this, Just need to get some rod to finish off the pin. I was very surprised that I could not find and plans on the net anywhere to build these. So Hopefully these are good enough for others to want to use, They are not perfect, but shouldn't need much tweaking. Enjoy Everyone!! This was my first attempt at really scratch building anything, so be gentle, but I am happy with the results.... 1. Four of these 2. One of these - reference marks for alignment at gluing - drop down to the 2/32 mark 3. One of these 4. One of these 5. Glue together and hopefully get this. 6. And after some paint. And for some size comparison next to my Chevelle....
  19. I have wanted to see this done since the car was released. Looks AWWSOME!!! What thickness of plastic are you using?
  20. So we are all agreed then... The boards search feature is a bit lacking
  21. Am I missing something here? I brush my Tamiya paints straight out of the bottle. No thinning.
  22. I really don't think they would be hard to build, I am just looking for some measurements to get the scale right. You would think a guy would be able to find something like that on the web somewhere..... I must be looking to hard
  23. Anybody got blueprints to build them? Or a tutorial. For some reason I just can't bring myself to buy some....
  24. Try sprinking some baking soda onto the wet super glue and when it dries it will be rock hard, worked for me anyway. hope this this helps.
