  1. Hi all, does anyone know of anyone making resin Nascar slicks? I'm using my last set and I'd hate to buy a kit just for the tires. Thanks!
  2. John, what a spectacular build! Paint and detailing look flawless. Could you share some tips on how you make that realistic looking parachute? What material did you use? Thanks!
  3. That drag RSX looks the business! Very cool idea and nice chassis work. Keep up the good work. I should have mock up pics of my entry in a few days. Going with a Tamiya GTR (R35). It will remain 4 wheel drive and have two of the biggest turbo's I have ever built pokin' through the hood! (At least thats the plan lol...)
  4. I'm still in and will participate, especially with the extended date! My GT500 build "should" be done this weekend so I can begin on this.
  5. I recommend Devcon 5 minute epoxy. Seriously couldn't build w/out it. Bond is stronger than CA glue and it wont ever fog up the surrounding metal. Good luck!
  6. Very cool project! I have one in the works myself. Really great kit and the wheels your using are excellent! Cant wait to see more progress. Keep up the good work.
  7. fordsixty, nice tut. I've not tried to make turbo's out of plastic/styrene so far. I'm a solder/metal guy. 20psi - paint sticks to solder w/out probs for me. You can always shoot some auto primer on the housings if your having an issue. Normally I just brush paint metalizer which doesn't show brush strokes anyways. These were done w/out primer, straight over solder and never had an issue with it coming off or not sticking.
  8. Just a quick note, when viewing your profile your and your friends avatars do not show up. Not that important, but thought I'd mention it.
  9. Devcon 5 minute epoxy. Could not build w/out it. Great stuff.

Brendan, very nice build! The paint and details look fabulous. Great job man.
  11. Hi, I used some reference pics of 1:1 for the rotary since this is the first and only one I've done so far. The back of the engine is completely flat because the trans is mostly molded to the Tamiya chassis. Kinda good because you can use any trans you want and install it in a variety of different cars. Here are some addt'l pics of the side of the engine where the plug wires, etc go. I made 2 ignition modules from styrene (painted flat black) and small tubing. You can see them in the pics. Hope this helps. I dont think I could sell the engine because I have so much time in it. On to the pics ...
  12. Hi, thanks for the compliments. The pulleys are from Model Car Garage I believe. Just some old ones I had laying around. The hose couplings are aluminum tubing painted with Tamiya light blue. I find the Tamiya red, black, and light blue look closest to the 1:1 couplings colors. The hose clamps are simple... it is thin strips of BMF with tiny flat cut sections of beading wire epoxy'd in place. Beading wire can be found at most craft stores.
  13. And if you dont want to scratchbuild turbo's you can order from "thepartsbox" .. they have some resin items that may interest you. Good luck!
  14. The Tamiya RX7 R1 kit is pretty nice. It does feature a rotary that can be built up to your likings. Here is the engine from that kit with scratchbuilt turbo, exhaust mani, fuel sys, ignition, pulley sys, etc.
  15. Bob, I was kinda taken back when I first seen your build post on this subject ... but I have to say everything fits together so extremely well. One of the more interesting builds I've seen. Its pretty wild to see the 3 cars all blended into one. Really outstanding job and the color is perfect IMO. Just looks "right." May I ask where the wheels are from? Again, excellent job!
  16. For some reason I cannot open your link. I met JD many years ago at the Boulder Hill model car contests in Montgomery, IL. I won the "JD Booth" award two years in a row from him. I haven't seen him in many years. Does he have a website for his display cases? Know how to order them? Thanks!
  17. I agree, I have a pretty hefty collection from Bob at scalehardware as well as RB Motion stuff. Both excellent, cant go wrong either way.
  18. I came up with something myself ... will hopefully post some mock ups this weekend.
  19. GTO is looking great! Did you use Duplicolor clear? If so, what did you use to polish it? I noticed using DC clear it goes on really nice and smooth, but dries to a semi-gloss appearance. Cant wait to see this one finished, keep up the great work!
  20. The wheel centers are not aluminum, they are all photoetched. The outer rim blanks are machined aluminum. The photoetched center gets positioned (sandwiched) between the two outer wheel blanks (front/rear).
  21. I have a bunch of their photoetch and multimedia tire/wheel kits and the quality is excellent. Very very nice stuff. FYI, although I love their tire/wheel kits ... watch out for the tires, they turn white (chalky) with age. You need to give them a little lube of Armor All (tip given to me by DaveZinn.. thanks Dave!)
  22. I may be in. Let me see what I have when I get home.
  23. Nice job on the paint! I read the thread your speaking of about painting, lots discussed there. What was your secret (method) on this one? It looks fabulous!
  24. I cant wait! This is some juicy info ...
  25. Thanks for the warm "welcome" folks..! I scratchbuilt the turbos and superchargers. The turbos are made from polished coiled solder, styrene, aluminum tubing, some PE, etc. Thanks for the kind words also, appreciate it!
