GTX Sportsman "Weekend Warrior"
Reeves Racing replied to Reeves Racing's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Man o man, thanks for all the complements guys. This is one the oldest models I have. I originally built it at least 23 years ago. I just recently restored it. I didn't redo much on the chassis, engine or interior. I stripped off the original paint job (it had the same scheme as it has now) which was Testers enamel black and white with brush painted stripes and no decals. I changed the wheels and tires, added side windows, removed the stock exhaust system, added headers, scratched up some slapper bars and did a repaint. -
This is my version of a MOPAR weekend warrior. A GTX with a big engine and slicks, representin for the good old Direct Connection parts source. (DC was to MOPAR what Ford Performance Parts is to FoMoCo.) Revell kit with slicks and wheels traded out with a fellow modeler. Paint is Dupli-Color including the stripes and the decals were some phantom ones I bought on eBay.

John you photography is top notch its only second to the quality of your builds. WOW

Thanks everyone. The paint came out just how I had hoped. It wasn't until I posted the pictures that I noticed the two mold lines on the tops of the rear quarters near the spoiler that I forgot to sand off... and that some time between decaling the body and shooting the clear coat the "Lenox" decal on the right C pillar went AWOL... I can't stand Kurt's little brother either Highway. I used despise Kurt as well be he has mellowed with age and I kind of like him now. Smoke is my favorite driver though. If Danica ever comes over to NASCAR full time I will be a big fan of that beauty!!!! The tape on the grill is 1/4" 3M fine line masking tape. (it has a plasic base not a paper one) It didn't "come with the kit"???? The kit was Ryan Newman's Altell Intrepid no grill tape there... I used the same tape to make the pieces of tape on the tires to. I cut the lines in it with my exacto after I put it on the grill. I used the end of a paint brush handle to burnish it into the contours of the grill. There must have been some old paint on the end of the brush handle that transfered to the tape. I started to clean it off but then I thought it added character to the tape so I left it alone. Thx again, Mitch

Revell kit, aftermarket decals , Dupli-color paint. Mostly out of the box with plug wires.

Daryl Starbird to live near the high way in Mulvane Kansas. We did some mechanical work on few of his cars in the 80s and 90s. He had a build shop in Winfield Kansas for a while and that's where my Grandpa had our repair shop. It was wild to see his cars in the WIP stage. They would "frame up" the basic shape with steel tube and then weld metal panels onto the frame up. Then it was a ton of bondo... Those cars were very heavy. Great build. It brought back some memories.

Here is a model I did of my personal daily driver. I used a Lindberg 4x4 kit and two Revell kits, one with an extended cab and one with the style side bed. The kit with the style side bed was a long bed and my truck is a std bed so I also had to shorten the bed. The paint is the actual paint code matches of my real truck. I made the decals by taking a picture of the truck and then tweaking it in MSPaint.

I just re-read my post and realize how snipey it sounded. I am so glad you took it the right way. It really is a beautiful job.

That is a fantastically detailed model. With all of that detail and precision the missing fuel cell hold down straps really stand out.
-
That is sharp. Nice paint, the stance, wheel size and offset, everything is perfect. I love this one.

LOL... I guess they all look black in B/W pictures.... talk about inconclusive. I wanted the engine in my model to be blue and so it is. Show me a COLOR picture of the TASCA car coming off the transporter in 1964 with a black engine and I probably will still be happy that I painted mine blue...
-
Actually they may have been Ford Red or Corprate Blue. My research was inconclusive so I went with the early Ford dark blue.

The 1964 Ford THUNDERBOLT Fairlane 500 was one the first true factory race cars. Out of the box this car was ready to go. The standard 289 had been removed and the upper a arms were shortened and the shock towers re-worked to make room for the dual carbed, ram inducted, massive 427 cubic inch race engine. The car was lightened as much as possible with aluminum and fiberglass body components to try and compensate for the added weight of the 500 horse power big block. To get all of that power to ground Ford installed 31 traction bars and special coil over shocks along with reworked leaf springs and locked 9-inch deferential. Under the guidance of the Ford Drag Council all of the original factory supported machines were painted vintage burgundy when they were delivered. This example is of the car TASCA Ford campaigned with Wild Bill Lawton as the driver. He set out to knock the mighty Dave Strickers Mopar off the top of the heap. This is Revells version built box stock with the addition of door glass and BMF on all of the bright work. I used Model Masters Honduras Maroon for the base and Dupli-Color Buckskin Metallic for the top. I lost the cap to the Dupli-Color color I used for the interior so that will just have to be a trade secret. The wheels, tires and decals are all from the kit. This is truly a kit of the Thunderbolt and not just a Fairlane with trim to make it look like a Thunderbolt. The front end is modified correctly as is the rear suspension. If you are wondering why the car has the silly little exhaust pipe and muffler, that was because Super Stock rules required a muffled exhaust. The headers could be capped and the exhaust ran through the cross over pipe and out the muffler. While racing the headers could be un capped and the horse power free to run.

LOL I love it!!!

The distributor is in the front on a Hemi...

You don't see that very often. Nice to see a Comet .

Awesome work Terry. The copper one, the pink one and John Milner's deuce from American Graffiti are my favorites.
-
Nice work. Very crisp.
-
Thanks guys. The wheels are from the Revell 65 or 66 Shelby GT350 kit. It's the current release the dark blue one with the white Laman stripes.

This a fictitious little Mustang coupe I built up as a SCCA club racer. Its an AMT kit with Revell wheels and after market decals. The color is a custom mix of Wimbledon white with some blue to make it somewhat resemble a Gulf car color.

Perfection.

Great build. I love it.

I am with Harry and bowtie... I don't get it. I looks like mess and anything but finished.
