To me it's a routine, I always prime no matter what. These new "lacquers" are really modified enamels, they are soft on plastic. I have tried them on some spare parts but you should be safe to go no matter which route you take. That being said, I want to see some progress from you, don't leave us in the loop now that we helped you!!!

When I did my Model Car Garage Stromberg Carburetor set I remember doing a lot of very small and precise holes to connect the small rods and ultimately place my photo-etch parts onto them. It is a tedious process and one you will have to be careful with. These are some photos of the WIP when I did mine!!! Hope this helps!!!
