You are right John, I have been told by 2 other people about this issue, it's something I think I will have to work with. It is subtle but I think it's something that can be easily fixed. Thanks a lot for acknowledging this!!

Thanks Kevin, Michael's certainly does sell the pastels, here is a picture of the brand I bought, they have other brands but I thought they were a little expensive, these work just fine for what I wanted to do! I also used them in the interior of this Miata......

Okay Brett, I like to use these pastes in conjunction with pastels to weather my chassis/engine bays. They are called Rub and Buff and are available at Michael's. I just rub a little bit on my hand and spread it around with my finger, you have to go easy, a little bit goes a long way. Just spread it all over your chassis and once done, use pastels for the dirt effect. I like to use a brown color, gives it a dirt/rust look. Here is a '59 Caddy chassis I did recently, as you can see, I go easy with the pastels, just want to have a slightly used look. Hosted on Fotki At the end, I will also use the Citadel washes throughout the mufflers, transmission and lighter colored mettalics like the pipes and other areas. You can spread your pastels liberally since they dont cover fast and you can always blow off any excess. As you can see, it's pretty easy and quick and gives the chassis a little more character and realism!!!

Brett, thank you for your observations, it's always good to know that there are people out there looking at all the little details. The stance you see is not the one the car will have, at least in the front. The rear tires are already glued but not the front ones. I will show you the simple method I use to weather my chassis once I get to my computer, right now I am texting from my phone.......

I finished painting the engine transmission with Testor's Metalizers Stainless Steel, gave it a little wash to finish it all up. Also, masked the gas tank and painted it aluminum. I am trying to use as many different metal colors as possible to give the chassis some contrast! Thanks Mark! For the engine color, I had a bottle of Pacific Blue paint from Model Master and added a bit of white to match the color of the Pontiac engine, I didn't have any Pontiac engine blue paint in my stash.

To me, it's the other way around, once I discovered all the advantages of an airbrush, my rattlecan blues were gone.....

A bit of work on the engine, not a lot of parts but it does look pretty complete. Made it a little dirty to give it some character and contrast. I still have to paint the transmission but I like to leave it like this until I install all the parts on the engine, keeps my fingers away and makes for a cleaner build. Thanks Jay, it's funny you asked this. The primer is also from scalefinishes but you can use any other red oxide primer for this if you so desire. I must say though, the gentleman from scalefinishes sent me a free bottle of this primer, when he mixed up the Bristol Blue the first time, he told me it was not correct therefore I had to wait another day for him to send it. I told him that I was not in a rush to get the paint but he still offered me the free primer for his mistake. I didn't see it as a mistake but anyway, thanks Scalefinishes!!! If you have a chance to do business with him, please do so!!

I'm liking this a lot, very cool man!!

I have never used the aerosol for Spaz or Alclad but you can't beat the control you have with an airbrush vs the aerosol, specially for this application.

I have used both of them and I get good results, they are both pretty good products. I do prefer Alclad though.
