  1. Nice website! Your models are great and your dioramas are just plain awesome! You should get some more pics for each of the models. Larger photos with a higher resolution would allow more details to be seen. For each subject I post on my website, I usually make a thumbnail at around 250 X 180 pixels and set the money shot at around 640 X 480. I feel that the 640's as I've come to call them, are small enough for reasonable download times, but large enough to show some good detail. Since you've extended the invitation, here's a link to mine. daveag.com Regards, David G.
  2. Use what the 1:1 bodymen use, Glazing-Spot putty. It should be in the same section where you buy the Bondo and comes in a tube like tooth paste. It goes on thin and smooth and sands out nicely.
  3. I'm a very lucky man. My wife is an artist, so she understands the creative obsession. The need build or make something. She sees the "art" in modelbuilding. She's never used the "C" word... "cute" when commenting on any of my projects. I understand that for many women, the C-word can express a very high level of appeal, but many men feel that it is demeaning- puppies and babies are cute, not monster trucks! When I go to swap meets, model shows or contests, I don't get any grief from her. She knows that she's welcome to come along, and has even been to a couple events with me, but it's just not her thing. She knows that I'll want to spend hours and hours just wandering around looking at the same things over and over again. She's a patient person, but as I said, it's just not her thing. I'm a very lucky man.
  4. That's just too funny! And very well done... pun intended.
  5. Very cool!
  6. That must be where I got the idea that it was safe! I must have read that at one point and forgot some of the critical details.
  7. Welcome aboard! You'll find that most of us have build interests in addition to the one that draws us here.
  8. I'm with you on this one. I just do the best I can with what I can get, and have a good time doing it!
  9. I've never used the Dawn product, but these were soaking in Purple Power for only two or three hours and there was just a little bit of the glaze left in the pits and cracks. I'll try to remember to pick up some of the Dawn stuff and and see how it does.
  10. WOW! It's even more over the top than I first realized!
  11. Davin, It's that you're awesome getting your daughters involved in the hobby. Especially the older one who wants to build! Thanks for sharing the photos. Regards, David G.
  12. I thought about building it as a gasser, but in my mind, a '55 Chevy gasser is almost cliche'. I decided to go more with a 70's style customized street dragster. A weekend warrior that you might see cruising the strip on Saturday night. Maybe it's time for a poll. So far we've got: Pepto Cruiser, Good-n-Plenty Racer and Pink Nightmare.
  13. Wow, that's what I call hot pink. Nice build too!
  14. I have a soft spot for these cars. I had a 1:1 back in the 80's and now a kit to build. Good work pulling this one back from the edge.
  15. Just too cool! I have got to get me one of these! You've even got the tail sagging the way it should.
  16. It looks pretty good. Do you build these this quickly, or do you have a back log of models to photo?
  17. This will have a white shag interior, right?
  18. This is a really fun kit to build. I did mine in black, but I didn't have the courage to attempt BMF on that much chrome trim, your's turned out nicely. I ended up painting mine and it doesn't look nearly as sharp.
  19. I'm speechless... In a good way... I think. Seriously, it's very well done, and it answers the question: What ever happened to all those Zingers that were sold in the 70's?
  20. Thanks, I should have tested it first. Ah, well, it was just a couple of little bits. I was using Purple Power, I just should have been more patient and left them in there longer. Is the Dawn stuff much better at removing that glaze than Purple Power?
  21. As we would've said back in the day... Bi'chin van, man! I wonder what some of the tuner crowd would say if they were able to see the "Van Ins" that were popular back then- dozens or even hundreds of these full size monstrosities all opened up for display. It was an awesome sight!
  22. Somewhere I got the idea that lacquer thinner was safe to use with styrene. Yesterday I soaked a few de-chromed small parts in some lacquer thinner to remove the yellow translucent "chrome primer" that sometimes remains. After about twenty minutes all I had were several small mishapen lumps in the bottom of the jar. I had suitable replacements in the parts box, but it's still a bit of a bummer. Is my information incorrect? Did I get the wrong type or brand of thinner? Thanks, David G.
  23. Very nicelyh done. I notice that you even drilled the tail pipes out!
  24. Aces!! There's just too much good stuff to comment on. Excellent work.
