  1. I am a 69 year old modeller.....haven't built models for about 50 years. A little over a year ago I got back into the hobby by building models of my first cars I owned as a teenager growing up in Garden City, MI. The 53 Buick you will see is the car I learned to drive on, my parents. I then bought in order, the '53 Studebaker, '53 Ford, '57 Ford and finally the '60 Pontiac before going in the Army in '61. This posting is in 3 parts due to the file size. As you experienced modellers will know, the Peterbilt is the Revell of Germany Black Magic and the trailer is the ROG Car Transporter. More in the next post......
  2. Is my spelling and punctuation OK?
  3. My letter carrier delivered this today.....got to finish up a couple of kits in progress so that I can start this one. I have only built 3 big rigs so far, all older issues, so looking forward to building up a brand new issue.
  4. I don't know which Dayton blower you have but I used a #1TDR7 blower on my paint booth. The biggest problem was that the Flange for attaching the exhaust duct to is square and interferes with the blower mounting surface so you have to make up a 1/2" spacer in order to mount it. When you make the spacer drill (4) clearance holes (5/16) on a 5.358 in. bolt circle, 4 equally spaced and the same (4) holes through the back wall of the booth. NOTE: orient the holes with (2) vertically and (2) horizontal so the blower will be in proper orientation. You can then use (4) bolts to mount the blower. I don't remember if the bolt thread is inch or metric, you will have to buy some test bolts and check the tapped holes in the blower. (1/4" or 6MM diameter I think) The next problem is making up a transition piece for attaching round 4" exhaust duct to the square flange. I ended up buying a "through the wall duct with a square flange" on it and cutting it up to make it work. Sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't to bad and works excellent when done.
  5. WOW!!! After I scraped the egg off my face I checked and you are right. I am 69 years young and I find myself doing more and more of this absent-minded stuff. Thanks for the response and my apologies to anyone who may have been offended.
  6. I saw a little tidbit about using Testors (Model Master?) Graphite Metallic paint to finish grills and/or wheels a while back. I was going to print it for inclusion in my "finishing tips" file and forgot to and tried locating it again but was unsuccessful. I think it might have been buried in another thread. Can someone repost this bit of information, either where it was originally posted or what the tip was. Thanks for the help!
  7. This a perfect example of what is wrong with this forum....the owner of the forum posts a message trying to get people to stick to the intent and post ONLY items RELEVANT TO MODELLING and all the preachers/naysayers/egoists/"oneuponyou" people have to start demonstrating how clever they are and we are already up to 2 pages. DISGUSTING!!!!
  8. Just read an online article from the Monroe News about the Great Lakes Truck Show taking place this coming weekend at Cabela's in Dundee, MI. Show is Friday afternoon thru Sunday. Much more info is available at www.greatlakestruckshow.com. They are expecting more than 60 big rigs. Sounds like a great chance to get some reference pics!!
  9. I just bought (2) of these from diecastbestprices in the UK. $120.12 USD shipped to my door for the both of them. They commented in one of our emails that these "American" trucks were not that popular over there but they had to take some from Italeri for good relations. I will post pics when I get them. I plan on hooking one up with a Revell car transport trailer to display my car models, would like to hook the other one up to a lowboy and maybe put a couple of the other tractors I have built on it.
  10. I am amazed at how this site has deteriorated in the past couple of months..... we should have a tutorial on building sandboxes like I used to play in when I was 4-5 years old for some of the posters on here. You aren't going to trade anymore... fine, that's your decision to make, nobody else is interested as there will be somebody else to trade with. You going to post a turorial on leather interiors...post the tutorial and forget the stupid act. The idiot start to threads like these only give all the other childish minds an opening to demonstrate their ignorance and destroy the value that some of us joined this site for. You have a question on assembling, painting, detailing or displaying your model..... post it. You have advice on assembling, painting, detailing or displaying your model.... post it. You have a kit review, show announcement, or something else useful to the adults posting on this site... let us know. I have sometimes heard the bad rap "small minds building small models"..... those people must have visited this site at one time.

  12. I have been using this paint for painting bodies of trucks and cars for over a year now.... excellent paint for airbrushing, covers very nice and you can put a couple of coats on at a time, very difficult to create "runs" and dries quickly. Let it cure for about 16-18 hours and you can use just about any method for finishing... sanding if that is your preference, rubbing compound and polishing is another. Good hard paint for polishing. Excellent service, great true to life colors.. get the MCW color catalog, you can't go wrong for $14.00. I was told by other users at the Toledo show last October that this paint has a very long shelf life, 8-10 years.
  13. I built the AMT Haulaway Trailer to display models of the first cars I owned as a teenager (1957-1959). I built a Ford C900 to finish the display as I remember seeing many of these haulaway combos on the roads in SE Michigan back then. As a matter of fact, we always hated to get "trapped" behind one of these because I think their top speed was about 35 MPH. Stan Gowan
  14. Does anyone have any idea when JBot decals will be opening up their web site for new orders? They have not accepted any orders for at least 3 months now... have 2 WIP waiting for striping decals.
  15. If you are going to build your own booth check out a design that I found on Briansmodelcars.com that I built. It uses standard (inespensive) furnace filters and is built from 1/4" acrylic which provides maximum visibility and ambient lighting, plus has a closable door to protect the paint job while drying/curing. I used a Dayton Blower #1TDR7 from Grainger for it. I will try to post a picture for you (I am new to this site so not sure how it works yet).
