  1. Nick, I have built 3 of these so far for displaying my built cars and they do build up into a nice kit. The fussiest part of the build is the mounting for the fenders, other than that the rest of the build is good. Carl Gowan
  2. Mark, Interesting choice of material for the walls! I haven't seen/heard anyone call drywall sheetrock in many years. My dad and most of my uncles were carpenters and they called it sheetrock all their lives. I think that most people nowadays would not even know what sheetrock is. Over the years I have thought about using it for building a diorama but I did not think it would hold up for long with one side stripped of the paper. The block walls look very authentic carved into the exposed side walls. Are you planning on sealing them with something? Carl Gowan
  3. Jesse, The Galaxie 21 foot tag-along trailer has optional parts to build either the 2 door swing open or the single fold down ramp door at least my kit has that feature.
  4. JT, Some info for you...I built one of these MENG F-350's a couple of years ago. It went together great except for the fit of the side windows. You have to trim about 1/16' off the bottom of the windows so that the interior tub fits up into the cab right. I just positioned the windows in place and held them with one hand while I used a panel scribe to mark the proper profile on the glass then cut it off with a razor saw. This is a great kit to build and I always wanted to build another one but didn't know how to do something different to justify it. With dually setup and fifth wheel for a trailer idea you have given me what I needed, thanks. Will follow your build closely. One other thing that I am sure you would pick up but I will mention anyway. You have to file the taillight lens at a 45 degree angle on the backside so that they fit "into" the fender tighter, not stick out on top.
  5. I use the same method as Art outlined above, never have had any problems.
  6. This trailer has been used extensively in the US. I believe it was introduced in the 60's or 70's and you can still see it used by many independent car carriers. I see them here in SE Michigan quite often, mostly by used car dealers.
  7. Google "Revell Auto Transport Trailer #85-1509". There are at least 5 sources for this trailer at $39.95.
  8. This really stirs up some old memories for me. From about 1953 to 1959 there was a show on local TV (black & white) that was telecast live from Motor City Speedway featuring midget cars such as these models. The midget racers running on this track were not in the same class though, many were built up in a shed or guy's garage, not anywhere as nice as these. The track was a 1/4 mile oval and it was located on the northern border of Detroit on the east side. The announcer was a guy by the name of Fred Wolf and he managed to make celebrities of the various drivers. It was shown on Saturday night and was quite popular. The track was torn down in 1959 due to heavy damage to the grandstand from a fire. I have a couple of each model in my stash and have on my todo list to build replicas of racers that ran on this track.
  9. You can also try Thomas Logan at speedwaydecals@yahoo.com. He has made up several sets of custom decals for me to use on tractors and trailers I have/am building. Does excellent work and the decals go on very nicely. He has a full time job and does this in his spare time so he warns that it might take some time, but I have always received the decals in a reasonable amount of time 1-2 weeks and at a reasonable cost.
  10. Thank You Nick. One nice thing about this age is that if you only get the bumpers mounted in one day, that's good enough, no need to sweat the small stuff.
  11. I will be 75 years young on Wednesday. I have slowed down with the model building, have about 8 WIP and have finished 2 so far this year but still enjoy the hobby tremendously
  12. Just got my back issues purchased Thursday AM. 46 issues from Dec 2003 #91 thru Apr 2009 #140 for $30 incl. shipping. This just might impact my building schedule as slow as it is already. I don't know how many took Gregg up on this very generous offer, but I want to thank him for an opportunity to get many issues that were published before I began subscribing.
  13. I agree with all of the posts lauding Carol and Don for their high standards and their service to us modelers. Although I have not bought that much from them, what I did buy filled a niche that no other resin caster could and the quality was excellent. I wonder if Dave from MCW might be a good candidate to buy all or some of their product line. He recently sold off his paint line to focus on the resin portion of his business. I have purchased 3 of his resin kits and found the quality to be very good and I think his experience with resin casting and selling would be beneficial.
  14. I grew up in Garden City, MI. and in the 50's we had Ralph Ellsworth Ford and Hershey Chevrolet, just those two. In nearby towns that bordered Garden City we had Holman Pontiac and Hutcherson Lincoln-Mercury and Ed Carpenter Dodge-Plymouth. If you wanted anything else I guess you had to go into Detroit to buy it. I also remember that when new cars were introduced by Ford and Chevy in the fall, sometime in September if I remember correctly, a lot of us kids would get on our bikes and ride up to these 2 dealerships to "review" them. We could spend hours in the dealership looking at everything they had, dreaming about what we would do to the different models to customize them, etc. Hershey Chevrolet even took advantage of this pretty quickly making sure all of the kids had ice cream and cup cakes on site and promos to take home knowing that we would bug our parents to go buy one. Sure wish I would have saved the promos!
  15. I bought one from Best Model Car Parts (www.bestmodelcarparts.com) last year. It kit contains the body shell, inner door panels, rear bumper, seats, interior rear floor panel, rear body flange and templates for the new window glass required. Have not built it yet but the castings look very good with minimal cleanup required. Sorry, I don't remember what I paid for it. OOOOPS! Reread your post and saw "fastback" not station wagon which I responded with. Age is catching up with me.
  16. He did about 4 sheets of custom decals for big rig doors, a couple of delivery sedans and 2 sets for a fire truck, in 1/25 scale for me about 5 months ago. Took a couple of weeks to get the designs and colors the way I wanted them and then he immediately printed them off....great decals with sharp borders and color and they lay down real nice. Like Jamie says he is tied up during the week but he does get the stuff done. I found communication with him to be great.
  17. It is a movie put together by people who want to make money. It has been written and produced for this purpose. If the producers can also try to embarrass Obama and Clinton that would be a plus. This story has been investigated by 3 Republican committees and is still being investigated by a fourth Republican committee for almost 3 years now and they have never proven this so-called order to "stand down". Where are the movies about all of the many embassy attacks and lost lives prior to 2008?
  18. Thank you....excellent resource. I did a quick search on this site and found several trucks that fit my criteria. will do more research and narrow down the choices.
  19. I am planning on building several of the recent California Hauler 359 to attach to Revell's Auto Transporter trailer. I use these to display car models that I build in custom display cases. I plan on building these as day cabs and am interested in shortening the wheelbase accordingly. I do want to have the dual drive setup. Can anyone tell me what the center distance should be when measured from the center of the front axle to the center between the dual drive rear axles? I have looked everywhere for this info and been unable to find it, so I am hoping someone here can answer this.
  20. Wings, Wheels & Waves recently purchased the model paint business of Model Car World and they have Seafoam Green airbrush #5331. I have used this paint several times on my 1953 Ford models, it is excellent. You can contact them at mcwfinishes@sssnet.com.
  21. A '53 Ford HT was my second car as a teenager (bought in 1956). I drove it for about a year before it was totaled by a drunk running into me at a stop light. I had just finished customizing it a couple of months before.....lowered all the way around, leaded hood and trunk, frenched headlights and tail lights, big bubble skirts, really looked nice. I have built 3 of these kits in various forms, my favorite is still stock out of the box, and I have 3 more in my stash. I am still bewildered how Lindberg did such a great kit back in those days as a one shot deal but did not ever produce another kit with such clarity in detail and fit.
  22. It was not sold. Dave kept that part of the business.
  23. I sent an email to Mike Guest the owner of Wings, Wheels & Waves who bought Model Car World's paint business recently. He replied that anyone interested in buying paint just go to the Model Car World site and use the same numbers as in the past, costs are the same as in the past (as posted) the ordering form is the same. The only change is the business address, it is Wings, Wheels & Waves address in Ohio now.
  24. Anybody have info on how to order MCW paints? Can we use Dave's catalog for numbers? Prices of products and S&H?
  25. I am really curious......all my life I have referred to building model kits as being a hobby. Everybody else that I have ever discussed building kits with has referred to it as a hobby. Brick and mortar stores that sell/sold model kits were hobby shops. If this is wrong, please enlighten me and I will refrain from referring to the practice of building up styrene, and resin kits as models being "a hobby". What else should it be called?
