  1. Thanks everybody for the comments, makes me feel somewhat happy about the end result from another person's point of view. I did manage to get a hold of a photo etch set for the car, but didn't use all of it. I wanted it primarily for the grille and grille emblem, along with some dash pieces. For the package shelf, i used the same material for the headliner. It's cheap and you get a lot! just head to walmart and go to the isle where they sell knitting material/quilting material. they have tons of different fabric patterns to choose from and they're only about a dollar each. I used that with elmer's "craft bond spray adhesive" to glue it to the surfaces. If you go that route, i'd recommend that glue over other types of glues or anything because the other options will bleed through the material. just make sure you use a little more material than the surface you're working with, and trim it to fit with a #11 blade. if you feel out of place by shopping in the knitting isle, don't worry - i was that man. all the ladies were looking at me like i was lost, and i actually had to explain to them what i was doing in that isle. they still looked at me weird. lol..
  2. What we have in front of you is as described in the topic title.. Painted in Tamiya Coral Blue TS-41 with enamel clear, wet sanded and novus polish.. not my best by any means, but after looking at it for so long i just got tired of looking at it and wanted it done. so here ya go: comments and criticisms welcome.
  3. one of the guys at work wanted to take a pic of the merc.. he's a photographer. with a little touching up in photoshop, this is what he came up with: i thought they turned out cool.
  4. i know i'm a little behind on the time with this.. but.. i finally completed the collection of all the chevies that i wanted. 57 chevy, and 58-67 impalas. i'm gonna start with the 57 and work my way through the ranks. my plans? build one of each year in stock form, hot rod form (autocross, muscle car, beefy cars, etc), then lowrider form. Hot rod form first!
  5. Here's one of my updates. I would like to get a couple more chassis details done to it before i consider it done. (i have altered the dash since the pic after looking at a real car reference photo - i removed the bare metal foil on the bottom) (outer rim chrome, inner wheel metalizers magnesium, lug nuts metalizers brass, photo etched center wheel cover with an oil based wash) frame nearly done:
  6. you guys are both in. if it's 1960 then you're in. thanks!
  7. I looked and didn't see any community build for this particular subject so i'm starting one! This is going to be a community build that's based on any vehicle's 50th anniversary. So here's the rules: 1. The subject must be from 1960 ONLY. No earlier, no later. 2. All progress updates and photos are to be on this thread. 3. The deadline is 12/31/10, in order to keep it in the 50th anniversary timeline. This also gives plenty time to see more completed projects. 4. HAVE FUN! The most important thing is to have fun. You can take your 1960 subject and turn it into a lowrider, a stock car, race car, zombie car, barbie car... it's up to you! To start the subject I will be building up the 1960 Pontiac Bonneville Hardtop from Trumpeter. I started it last night, and will be getting photos by tonight/tomorrow. Thanks and hope to see some interest!
  8. bah i've been april fooled would still be cool to see this bird fly again though
  9. here's a pretty neat 'once in a lifetime' event. if you know much about the history of WWII, then you should know the famous airplane Enola Gay. For those that don't know, it's the plane that dropped that A-bomb on Hiroshima. If you're into history and stuff, this would be something you wouldn't wanna miss! there's only 13 stops in the tour, which will be listed at the bottom of this. Anyways, here's the info i received in a newsletter: NASM Announces National Tour For Enola Gay Famous Airplane Will Fly Again, Thanks To Extensive, Secret Renovation The National Air and Space Museum made a surprising announcement Thursday. In honor of the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII, the NASM staff has been secretly preparing the B-29 Enola Gay to make her airworthy for a commemorative flight across the United States. The tour will begin in June and run through August. After the tour, the plane will be disassembled into large pieces that will be shipped by a special train from the final tour stop back to the Udvar-Hazy Center, which is at Dulles Airport in Washington, DC. The announcement is being made to enable the warbird community as a whole to modify the airshow schedule so that other WWII aircraft will be able to participate in the historic event. This will be a one-way trip that will be long-remembered by the warbird and historical community. FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt and NASM Director Gen. John R. Dailey, USMC (Ret),made the surprise joint announcement at a news conference at the Udvar-Hazy Center Thursday. The media release indicated Dailey would be talking about the building of another hangar at the Center to house more aerospace artifacts, such as the famous Memphis Belle. That B-17F was recently “recalled†by the USAF Museum from its previous home on Mud Island in Memphis, TN. But instead the media were surprised with the Enola Gay announcement. The itinerary will take the famous B-29 to some thirteen airports from one coast to the other. Since the B-29 will not be carrying bombs (or an A-bomb like she did in August, 1945), she will be able to make trips of several hundred miles at a time as she works her way across the Nation. Some of the stops are at unlikely places, but because the time of the flight will correspond with part of the summer airshow season, towns that are not on the airshow circuit become logical choices for stops on the tour. The Enola Gay will spend between two and four days at each stop, depending upon the size of the crowds expected, and to give the crew time to rest and maybe do a little fine-tuning and/or tinkering with the B-29. The stop at Omaha, NE will be special, because the Enola Gay, while designed by Boeing, was one of the 531 B-29 Superfortresses manufactured by the Glenn Martin Aircraft Company in Omaha. Col. Paul Tibbets, her chief pilot, picked her off the assembly line himself, and named her “Enola Gay,†in honor of his mother. The stop at Salt Lake City, UT will include a special recognition of the crew of the Enola Gay, and every other B-29 crew in the 509th Composite Bomb Group. B-29 pilots trained for their top-secret bombing mission at Wendover Air Force Base (now closed), about 60 miles from Salt Lake City. The anniversary tour was conceived when the Enola Gay was undergoing a complete restoration that began in the 1980s. Under the orders of the NASM administrators, everything on the Enola Gay was restored to airworthy condition. Wright R-3350 radial engines were test-run in the Garber facility one at a time in 2001, and NASM personnel explained to curious neighbors that the racket the whole neighborhood had heard a few nights in a row was caused by blown mufflers on a rented auxiliary generator that they had to use during a “wiring problemâ€. In all, the restoration crew kept the actual condition of the Enola Gay secret for over ten years. Exxon Mobil and AeroShell will sponsor the national tour. Exxon has donated all of the fuel and AeroShell will donate the oil, and Enola Gay will need lots of both. "We're proud to be able to give America one more chance to see this flying piece of history," Dailey said. "If it wasn't for this airplane, America might not be the country she is today." Itinerary: Andrews Air Force Base in DC Philadelphia, PA Richmond, VA Indianapolis, IN Lawrence, KS. Ft. Leavenworth, KS Omaha, NE Odessa, TX Longmont, CO Salt Lake City, UT Davis/Woodland/ Winters, CA Astoria, OR Yakima, WA
  10. well i ended up entering this model into the quarterly model contest here locally, and in the hard core division, i got 2nd place which came with a plaque, ribbon, certificate, and and some cash. so i'm both shocked and happy!
  11. wow, i actually got it done in time. umm... it's not much but here's the only gr.5 car i could find, the jager bmw. i know the flaws. the windshield decal confused me. both sides of the window appeared identical, so i put it on. lo and behold it's on the back window. also masking tape ate some of the decals. oh well!
  12. i know it's been beaten with a dead horse, but light coats over completely cured decals helps. however, i don't use tamiya clear sometimes. Other times i'll get the model master ultra high gloss enamel. It takes about a week to cure without a dehydrator but IMO it looks awesome. i think it also lays down a little thicker so it makes wet sanding a little less tedious, if you wet sand yourself. that's been my experience anyways. let us know how it goes!
  13. i 2nd this answer. i also rinse off the cars between sanding levels. oh and make sure to use water to keep the paper wet, the end result is spectacular!
  14. i've been cranking away at the jager BMW 320i. so far its a simple build. i would like to know if anybody has any reference photos for things like plug wires, etc
  15. even more interesting is i got the fade paint from rattle can
  16. excellent build! the only thing i would do is face the steering wheel to match the front wheels. a straight steering wheel with a car turning to the right is scary! otherwise awesome build.
  17. Here's an oldsmobile "chill factor" drag car. enjoy! Once the contest concludes, i will get more pics of it. Thanks for looking.
  18. This was a club 2-week build. The rules were simple: you bring in a model that's not started, register with proof of non-started model, and at the end of two weeks you display it however it may end up. Public votes for the winner. I chose the Revell Integra Type R. Everything went together really well except the wheels. For some reason i don't like models that have wheels that roll. I fixed that though. Anyways, only a couple pics so far, but here she sits.
  19. here's a video of it starting: and idling!
  20. here's some photos for now, will get vids soon Here's where the beast sits now: front shot enjoy!
  21. hehe, thank you. what better way to have a 4 day weekend.. getting the car running, idling, a nice clean revamped modeling area, and a birthday. suhweeeeet
  22. great interior pics.. hmm. well my interior isn't even in my car lol.. but i promise to get pics of what i can if you still would like.
  23. yeah i post up on the storm/pulse forum, but mostly for information on stuff. Yes, there are trolls there, and those who always want to have a political agenda about everything.. i haven't posted there very often in the last several months outside of my project thread. as a suggestion for that forum, should you ever decide to go there: use it only to look for information. chances are if you try to initiate conversation, you'll likely come across some arrogant people who have nothing better to do with their time. The other option is to simply send me a message and i'll see what i can find out for you, unless i already know the answer if you still need reference photos let me know.
  24. ROFL.. no. my eyes will be in the whole look at all times. not i disabled the whole raise/lower eye lid thingies.
  25. I'm sure you guys didn't really wonder anything like "hey i wonder where mark went" but i figured i'd post up and let you know what i've been up to. Lately i've been so busy going to club meetings and doing local build contests, that i kind of neglected coming on here and participating with different builds and so-on. MOST importantly, however, is the other main reason i've been gone. my 1:1 project car, the 91 isuzu impulse RS (stock all wheel drive, turbo, intercooled, handling by lotus) which only 800 were imported to north america/canada combined. This weekend i wanted to just get it running and starting/idling on it's own power. I have accomplished said objective, so the first time in 5 years the engine is alive! If y'all are interested i'll be getting video of it running as soon as my buddy uploads the videos, and share them with you.
