  1. on the 65 once the frame is built up the first rims will look better. this is my opinion of course.
  2. update. i didn't like the way the chassis was coming along. also didn't like the gold foil. so i decided to alclad pale gold the side trim and window trim. any overspray will easily wet sand off. i also nearly hacked my finger off because i wanted to build the frame separate from the rest of the bottom of the car. i got it off and started doing alclad gold on the components. There's still some touch-up to do on the existing parts, and wait for these other parts to dry do i can move on to assembly. here's with the airbrushed trim (not touched up yet) frame: part holder for paint with all kinds of other stuff that i did in gold. there's going to be detail paint done to the components so it doesn't just look like a big glob of gold under the car. the rear suspension is almost done, and i have to fabricate rear spring perches for it. i also have to figure out how i'm going to raise the front suspension with the upper a-arms being molded in pretty solid. the lower a-arms can be manipulated.. maybe if i lengthen the pins between the a-arms so they'd fit, it would work.. but might look a little goofy.. i'll figure it out though. worst comes to worst, the rear is dropped and i can go stock ride height in the front.
  3. stopped at a hobby store in denver, picked up a ross gibson RGE-605 "superman supercharged pro mod" racing engine.
  4. where the heck have i been??? i'm in colorado springs.. heading to denver tomorrow for water world, and possibly stop at Colpar (they're having a major sidewalk sale this coming week) and caboose hobbies. gotta look for those gears for the pullies!! btw, IPMS nationals is being held in Loveland in 2013, August. I hope you will have this available to see.
  5. like the 61 i also got the foil work done on this. green w/ foil. blue w/ foil. the effect is simply awesome.
  6. i decided to start working on this one a little more tonight at the LHS meeting. I figured i'd make the night a foiling night. I decided to go with gold instead of chrome as it suits the colors better. here's where she sits. gotta do the buffing and stuff with this and the 62. i'll keep y'all updated.
  7. I'm working on a revell 62 impala. I was on model car garage looking for photo etch sets for the car, but they only list a photo etch set for the AMT kit. are these photo etch kits pretty much interchangeable, or has anybody put the AMT PE on a revell kit? i honestly wouldn't THINK they'd be much of an issue?
  8. i would like to see advanced airbrushing techniques and advanced masking covered in the magazine. for the people that make wild paint jobs - i'd love to see a how-to.
  9. that's a pretty nice technique for the gauges. looking good, keep it up
  10. paint is done! just gonna do the BMF and cut/polish it today, then work on the headliner, then the glass, etc. also gotta paint under the hood and do the hood jambs.
  11. green blue purple
  12. howdy folks. i got the last color coat down. i decided against doing the fish scales, because i liked the color changing paint so much it's in the dehydrator now, and once it's done i'll move on to BMF and then wet sanding and buffing/polishing. This has been one SERIOUS paint job!!! roughly 14 or so hours put into it. i'll let the pics do the talking. green roof oh wait it's blue.. or is it purple? (it sure looks like it in certain lights) after it was cured, i did one last design on the roof and sprayed boyd's bright green.
  13. the hood and trunk is done on the top side (under hood will be soon enough) added the final touches of the red stripes, and tear drops off the front fender emblems. and the side as of now.. lower part of the sides are done. gonna lighten up the black area in a fade, then follow up with some pink or something. i don't like how the black turned out on the sides, so i'm gonna lighten it up and do something to fix it I hope to get this paint under wraps over the weekend.
  14. haha, thanks for the comments, gentlemen. i have decided i want to fade the red on the sides into the little pattern area to kinda help make it look level.
  15. some more progress. masked off the patterns, sprayed stop light red metallic over it. also did some of the red inserts along the rear trunk area. just need to integrate a couple more small things with the red. I also need to do one last shading of black along the sides.. light mist.
  16. thanks guys. here's a small update. on the sides i did a light coat of pearl orange, then did some weird stripe design things with mask, then put a heavier coat of pearl orange over that. once it's cured, i will be doing touching up some black areas, and mask off some areas and throw down some metallic red in some parts. i'll keep y'all posted.
  17. so you're like me. you just look at it, start SOMEWHERE and let it flow. haha.. glad to see i am not the only one. Can't wait to see more.
  18. i do like that alot. tamiya's making a killing off us two lol i've already gone through nearly two rolls of the 10mm and one full roll of 18mm. do you have any other paint plans outside of what's already done?
  19. making more progress tonight, some more coats of paint applied, this time some candy purple. imperfections wlil be taken care of, and the lower part of the sides is still needing to be done.
  20. Did some more masking, and such. i did the border of the bubble with some black fade kinda effect, then sprayed a light coat of Dusty Rose over it. Once cured, i masked off some small pinstripes along the side body lines and the fender/hood/trunk areas. Once that was masked, i then followed up with a darker coat of dusty rose for the top side, and black over the side body lines.. i will need to fade the sides a little better to give it a cleaner look. I had to take all the tape off, just to get it in the dehydrator because if you leave the tape on, it'll leave residue in the paint. this is near the rear pillar. the front of the inner pin stripe loops around to match the curve of the A-pillar. this is after i got all the masking tape off.. upper view. there's going to be a more fluid transition from the lighter Dusty Rose to the darker, and it will tie into the car nicely. and a side shot. i will fade black into the stripes from the front and back, so most of the center of the pinstripes will be visible. more updates will come as i progress.
  21. hehe, thanks everybody for the kind words. got some "dusty rose" air brushed on, and it's curing. i can't wait to get more color on this!
  22. haha, thanks! well, my ultimate goal is to be a competitor in a paint-off, and actually be considered competition. i learn things quickly, and look forward to learning more.
  23. i like it. eventually i'll garner the skill you have.
  24. when doing your shades and highlights of the bubbles, just consider where the "light" is coming from and follow that basic principle.
  25. thanks shucky! to make the bubbles, here's the step by step: 1. spray your colors, let them cure with the final result you want it (shaded, solid, highlighted, etc) 2. once the paint is cured you get a squirt bottle and set it to fine mist. spray the mist of water over the area you want the bubbles, and spray until you get desired bubble size (the size of the water drops dictates size of bubble) 3. before the water evaporates you airbrush a darker color on one side of the bubbles (if it's a light color, black will be too dark for shades) 4. spin the piece around and airbrush the other side of the bubbles a lighter color. 5. place under a heat lamp or let the water dry naturally, your choice. 6. once the water is fully evaporated you will see your bubbles. to make sure they don't rub off, throw on a light coat of clear. 7. You will probably have a little discoloration of the colors from spraying the bubbles. to fix that, get the original color and lightly dust over the affected areas until it's the correct color, being careful not to paint too heavy. if you paint too heavy the bubbles will disappear. the best part about it is if you get a water drop too big you can get a q-tip and soak up excess.
