  1. Well the body of my sauber Mercedes is painted and I am almost done with the crazy decal job. The decals weren't fully cooperating so they arent perfect. Will get pics tonight.
  2. body curing with future. as soon as it's cured then i can do the final steps!
  3. Touch up paint is done. Clear coat tonight, and pics to follow!
  4. I need to touch up paint and clear coat my Hudson hornet the it's on to final assembly. The 57 ford, however, is going to be without a motor. given the circumstances I will still try to make it a nice curbside. Once the clear is dry and all done on the hornet I will get pics of it on here. I am really looking forward to final assembly on it!
  5. I'd post eye candy but need to find a model to start with. Soon enough, cranky. Sooooooon Enouuuuuuuughhhh
  6. This is a relative rendition of what I want to do, and I hope the kit I get includes a motor... http://digital-art-gallery.com/picture/big/1941 I'm not going to do that to the tee so not to steal their design and deal with copyright issues.. Any idea what I can do to replicate an elephant skull?
  7. I know people might hiss and boo at me, but I might actually shop in the armor isle for my platform to base my build on... Armor? 1/35 scale? The audacity! Edit: at least in this scale all the weapons would scale correctly
  8. Just about done with the body, paint, and foil. So slowly progressing.
  9. Man I have a lot on my table. 1. Finish the hudson hornet for that cbp. 2. Finish the historic race car cbp. 3. Start and finish my fabulous 50s build. 4. Start my 70 dodge for nicks gumball rally. 5. Start and finish the 55 Benz for slants gumball rally. 6. This awesome epic amazing zombocalptical flesh mutilating build. Sheesh. Priorities!
  10. I guess the best thing to do, cranky, is paste the link to your YouTube channel and afterwards delete the posts to your videos. This will save on the forum bandwidth and get usto the videos.
  11. I need to learn and study the different chassis configurations so I can mock up a lifted truck
  12. I just remembered I have some swamper tires.. I will probably end up lifting the 41 Chevy truck and doing stuff with it. Cranky is it possible to do a tutorial on how you do that rusty paint?
  13. i'm in!! not quite sure what i'll build yet, but i'm definitely in. might possibly be a 41 chevy truck
  14. Alright so I'm looking for ways to improve my model building and I believe I seriously need some advice on bare metal foil. All it took was me looking at the body of the Hudson hornet for me to bring this up, simply because I don't want to put all this effort to make this car top notch in my eyes, only to be detracted in quality by a subpar foil job. The tools I have at my disposal: Burnishing tool with multiple tips and such Toothpicks (thanks chipotle!) The self adhesive bare metal foil Internet for reference photos Here's where I think I do ok: I can burnish the trim around the windows and such perfectly fine. I use brand new number 11 blades, marking the tip of the blade with a black sharpie so I don't press to hard with the blade. I let the weight of the exacto alone do the work of cutting so not to damage the paint. Here's where I need help: Trimming the inside of the trim, the areas that fold inside the body like the headliner making it look tacky. Knowing where to start with laying down the foil on long runners like the lower panel trim on the hornet, so it doesn't tear the foil. Small areas of trim like to lift off the body when trying to trim it. Questions: I have heard there was a difference between the ultra bright chrome and new improved chrome, hearing that the new improved was actually worse. Any input on this? I clear coat with future floor wax. Would it make sense to foil it first, then future over the top? Would that keep the foil seated? Is the bare metal foil closer to scale in terms of shine as opposed to alclad chrome? I want to improve my abilities here, so any advice would be gladly accepted. If you post pics of your foil work, that would validate your advice, too. Thanks guys
  15. I voted Ferrari. That thing looks sweet.
  16. Nice and clean. What is your next project?
  17. I got the motorcraft got mustang kit.. Not gonna build it for this cbp though.
  18. Suffice it to say that performance has improved via efficiency as opposed to bigger displacement over time? My thought process is relatively simple. There is a car out there for every automotive enthusiast. Whether it be domestic or import, if you throw enough money (or transmissions in some cases) at a car, you can make it fast.
  19. Looking at this makes me want to restore an old maisto Ferrari F50. Or even yet, all of those diecast cars in my closet... Hmmm.
  20. I hope you don't mind but I saved those pics on my pc to look at later. I am amazed at how realistic the metal look is. Come to think of it, that technique could work well in a body shop diorama.. I haven't heard of the rub and buff.. How is it compared to testers metallizer aluminum (buffing type)?
  21. Pretty cool! I recently finished my nurburgring LFA and have it under glass as well. Great kit to build, regardless of price. You did a good job!
  22. well the other build had the 70 coronet super bee and the 55 gullwing was a "maybe" so i'm moving the gullwing here as a "definitely"
  23. would you allow a 1955 mercedes 300 SL gullwing? i'll remove it from the other gumball rally that nick is doing.
  24. Just got some supplies. Clear coat, bmf, glue accelerator, #11 blades etc
  25. Thanks again everybody. Let's see.. In terms of lack in detail, I would say no. With everything that comes in the box, that will be far more detailed than you will think. I personally like to super detail everything, and upon completing this kit, it didn't need to be super detailed. In fact I don't know how it can be improved over box stock! What to watch out for: it's really easy to lose the metal transfer that goes on the steering wheel. Ask me how I know lol The photo etch that comes in the kit, it bends super easy. The hardest ones to keep straight are the ones that are in the back by the exhaust. When you go to put in the rear undercarriage cover it might bend the photo etch. The only other thing I can suggest is be extremely careful with the roof. The a pillars are fragile. If you need to buff out the paint, then I would suggest putting in the glass first. Other than that, the kit should go together extremely well.
