  1. Great job! I am anticipating a whole lot of awesome with this build.
  2. I think he means right below the part that should be red? Looks like a little red got in the silver maybe. I must say you are doing a great job with this. I also did this kit. I will say the kit photo etch is verrrrry easy to bend, so be careful when putting on the rear belly pan cover thing (I am sure you will). Also there are some other pieces that will be painted the body color and the little bar under the rear bumper has a paint call-out to be black as well. I will be watching this.
  3. I actually brush painted the iron stuff on and misted on the rusting solution with a squirt bottle. No airbrush needed!
  4. This is the box art of the exact model.
  5. Keep in mind you only put the iron where you want the rust.
  6. Alright so this is the product I got at one of the hobby/craft places. It comes as a kit. Basically the first part is an iron solution. Shake it extremely well and pour into a container. I did a couple things with the model. First, I got the Dremel out and buzzed the inside of the fenders until it started poking holes through to get the rust holes. I then dotted super glue to get the visual of surface rust bubbling up. Once the body was where I wanted it, I brushed the entire car with the iron stuff. Apparently it has real iron particles in it. The second part is the rust stuff. It looks like window cleaner and the consistency of water. I put it in a squirt bottle set to fine mist and generously coated both inside and outside of the body. The part of me putting it in the plastic bag is so the stuff would condensate and not evaporate. I am not keeping it under a heat lamp so it will keep the moisture in the bag and help with the oxidation process. To say the least I can't wait to see the end result after a full 24 hours! And this is before the application of other rusting treatments! I have rust paint, mig pigments light and medium rust, tamiya rust powder, and I might even do an oil based wash to bring out some texture. I can't wait. Oh, and to answer that last question, I plan on dull coating afterwards just in case.
  7. 5 hours later, it went from this to this
  8. after scoring this kit for 10 bucks at a model contest, i finally decided to give it a whirl. the kit is impressive with fitment thus far, and i spent a good while just on the engine alone. i want to take my time with this kit, and don't plan on doing anything outside of what comes with the kit. if anybody sees ANYTHING that i should do or fix or work on, please please please let me know.
  9. heres some progress. iron metal covering the car which is part 1 of the 2 part rust system rusting solution applied through a spray bottle on mist, and wrapped in plastic. 15 minutes into watching the stuff do it's thing, you can see some rusty areas forming. we shall see how it turns out in 24 hours!
  10. The yellow wasn't working so I did a bare metal silver. Right now I have coated a majority of it with the iron metallic stuff from the two part rusting system. After it dries I will apply the rusting solution and wrap it up for 24 hours. This will be my first time messing with the stuff too.
  11. I did paint Peeping Tom yellow over the black primer today. Once it dries I will be putting on the catty decals. Then I will start the rusting process and the final stage of body work which is dull coat. Pics coming a little later
  12. this is my update on Peeping Tom i went and got the two part rusting system. I also did a little bit more dremel work and cut out the back seat of the car, and will be making a custom setup for the scope user to sit down comfortably. i did the first coat of the flat black as a primer base, and will do a couple more coats. the exaust manifolds are on upside down and reversed so the exhaust will be going some strange route or another. i did gum up the panels some with just some super glue before the black primer, so that way i have some rusty areas to work with. i wlil be doing paint next then once it cures i'll follow up with the rust treatment, and see where it goes from there. i also got some black oil paint to thin down for an oil wash, mostly for the engine and other areas that would normally be oily. the engine is still in the baby stages. i might try to wire it up and get rid of any chrome bits, then gunk it up a little. i'm still sorting some ideas for the exhaust pipes though, but it will be interesting!
  13. Nice. But that sure doesn't look like orange paint in the bottle!
  14. So when it comes to my building sessions I usually just keep my head down and work on stuff. Until my brother knocks on my door and wants to conversate about nothing. So that's my biggest distraction, what about yours? Also how do you overcome them? I'm in the process of getting my own place, which is how I am going to overcome mine (there's more to me wanting my own place than him being a nuisance though)
  15. For what it's worth I posted up this thread in my Facebook model car group, so we may have more entries.
  16. Scratch building: when you lose a part to the carpet gods and that part is necessary to complete the model. Only solution is to build the part that got lost.
  17. My version of a clean build involves the use of basic model building skills. The aforementioned finger prints, glue marks, good paint. To add to that list, I would say getting rid of mold lines, gaps (like engine halves) and the removal of the ejector pin markings and any of the copyright markings. Knowing what glue to use also helps. I have seen good builds gone bad because of the use of super glue to glue in windshields and windows, causing them to fog. I have judged models and I predominately look for the basics first. After that has been done I then look at the more intricate parts of the build like seeing if the aftermarket stuff appears in scale, etc
  18. Due to inclement weather, michaels store was closed and therefore I was unable to get some rusting material. Seriously? It was only cold outside, not a blizzard! Not even a quarter inch of snow! I think they are anti zombie hunters. Or it's a conspiracy.
  19. The Peeping Tom scout vehicle
  20. Denver was already at a foot as of this morning and is supposed to get more over night. I'm 45 minutes south of denver and it's just overcast. I was hoping for a snow day today. Niko, it looks like you got a dusting! Over here some people will keep studded tires on all year long.
  21. Here is judgeman's video. http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?v=b0I--iAz5uk
  22. Would you be able to post your YouTube vid link here? Or if you want to email me your pics I can post them for you! I don't mind. Stflatliner@hotmail.com and make the subject "tzh truck"
  23. I use photobucket. Its free and you get lots of storage space. www.photobucket.com Just save photos to your computer, go to photobucket and upload the photos. Once you have them uploaded you can go to any photo uploaded and click on the "IMG" link. It should briefly say "copied" so you can then go here and paste the link by doing ctrl +v in your response. When you do that in the response you will see text show up that looks all coded and such. If you preview post you should see the photo. If you see the photo, then add whatever text you want to it and submit the post and we will see the pics.
  24. I like to do some metal tube work. Most of it is to simulate intercooler pipes or intake pipes, custom exhaust, velocity stacks, etc. I like my tube benders and also a tube cutter, both from k&s engineering. http://brodak.com/tools/tubing-bender/k-and-s-tubing-bender-kit.html http://www.ehobbies.com/k-s296.html I also use miter boxes and razor saws for angled cuts. Not a vivid imagination by any means, but it works.
  25. This makes sense. I have seen cars with red paint fading and chipped and almost always has a yellow base
