First off, interesting outfit choice. Seeing somebody in an oompa loompa suit does matter. It does enrich our lives as it gives us something to laugh about. This is a hobby in which I deem to be a fun hobby instead of all serious. Is it really eating a bunch of bandwidth? Did you ask Greg how much bandwidth it really eats up? Do you not understand that bandwidth is based on traffic to the site, not how many threads are started? if you only want technical threads, then perhaps the technical section of the forum would suit your fancy instead of the.. Well, you know.. The "general" section... So let me ask you. How do you use the technological advances of the last 10-15 years to enhance/elevate Your build quality? Oh wait, I should post that in the "how do I" section of the forum. Disregard the question.

I might jump in on this. I came in to work to find that somebody had anonymously put these on my desk. No notes or anything. They smell like they've been in a damp shed. The person who attempted it apparently was in over their head. They started gluing it together with no paint and massive amounts of glue. Glue bomb? More like glue nuke! First up is the prowler. It's damaged beyond repair to make it look good, so I'm going to use it for a prop in the zombie thread and make it a crashed car. Over all shot Front suspension completely trashed and window frame bent. Glue bombed interior. The shiny is the glue. No idea what they were thinking but they destroyed a wheel. And the engine The impala is in the same condition sadly.

If I were doing the lancia I would do a red valve cover to help the engine pop, and maintain the realistic part of it.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
You know, now that I am thinking about it, I will build a crashed, pillaged, and rusted prowler for the diorama. This is gonna be fun! -
Call me strange for saying this but if I were to vote for a build, I would say the lancia stratos first because it's weird looking. Then the skyline because it's a skyline. Why not tackle a couple?

Coronet gave me a difficult time. I need to break out the Dremel because I forgot to grind away material in the vent windows per the instructions. Also, the front frame assembly came off the rest of the chassis. So I will try to knock it out when I get home, should the styrene gods allow. -

Hey cranky, this prowler is pretty messed up. You can have it for the diorama as a prop if you want. It would be unpainted and so forth though. I got to inspecting it and the whole front suspension is pretty gnarled (trashed). I'm not going to build it, so you can have it. Pm me your address and I will get it mailed on Wednesday. -

So a mystery person put these on my desk... They didn't have paint, but had tons of glue. I'm looking at the possibilities of using these for this build. They glued everything together, or mostly, and I'm thinking the prowler has more to work with in terms of ideas. Any thoughts? -
I came in to work today and here is what was on my desk from a mystery Santa (I know, Christmas is over). So upon investigation, there was a little dismay. The person who had them didn't have any paint but had tons of glue. Everything is there though! So. Once I get home then it will be time to deconstruct. Might even use the prowler for the post apoc build.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Man I can't maintain the excitement... Can't wait to get my model! In the mean time I might bring out a mercury cougar and see what I can make of it. Doc, what are the complete details behind the photo shoot? -
Well I didn't see my entry on the initial post which is ok. Do the entries have to be American vehicles?

The Gumball Rally- GUMBALL HAS STARTED
wgflatliner replied to Nick Winter's topic in Community Builds
My coronet is almost done. I got the chassis done and interior 90% done, and the body is cleared and waiting for it to cure. After it cures then it's final assembly. For the interior all that's left is painting the dash and detailing the door panels and center console. Then windows and bumpers. I didn't bring it to work to snap photos, but being I am almost done, the next photos will likely be completed model. -
Alright so I got the body decals finished at work.

I didn't bring it with me to work today but I did get the bmf and decals on last night. I went with white decals. I am going with a black interior to give it a stock look. Just a couple dots of touch up paint and then I will get it clear coated. I didn't get a chance to paint the chassis yet, but have plans to do that tonight. If I put enough effort into completing this I am sure I can wrap it up tonight or over the weekend. I'll get pictures tonight. -

Body building! And I don't mean weight lifting
wgflatliner replied to wgflatliner's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Keep in mind that this thread would be all about the many different techniques with body work, not just addressing seam lines. For example, if somebody here is good at removing ejector pin markings, maybe they have a trick to remove them, even when they are in a textured area.. Maybe there is a tip to reproduce the texture effect! This thread is all about all tips and tricks and tools used for all things body work related. It can be novice and advanced. It could be cleaning up the trim and prepping it for foil.. seriously if anybody has something they want to share, this is the place to do it! -
So I got to thinking today, and yes it was scary. I was thinking about body work and pondering different techniques others use and techniques that I use that others may benefit from. One of the things with model building that takes a model to a higher level is removing body seam lines. I have found a really cheap way to address this. What I do is I get a sharpie and scribble along the seam lines making sure to cover both sides of the seam. When I go to sand them off, I make sure to sand on the seam lines until the sharpie is sanded away on both sides of the line. To make sure the body doesn't look goofy from over sanding some areas, make sure to sand along the entire seam to maintain the body lines. If you do this then you know there aren't any raised lines where the seam lines were. This is a pic with the front mold lines marked and the rear ones sanded smooth. I use flex pad sanding sticks, starting with coarse to medium to fine, so I won't see any sanding marks in the primer stage. So what kinds of tricks do you guys have?

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Do you have an airbrush? I did enamel to start, Boyd's ice blue pearl as a base followed up with a coat of tamiya ts-60 pearl green. -
Anybody got any reference photos of a 55 Benz 300SL gulling? Specifically the chassis and undercarriage, and maybe some things like fuel lines, brake lines, etc Thanks!

Here is the other two unused intake manifolds. In a sense it's cool that I have an entire spare motor that I can use with something else. -

With the recent completion of my Hudson Hornet I have started my build for this. It is an mpc kit. It's pretty nice and has two motor options, even though the instructions only have a call out for one. The other one looks like it would go into the 68 dodge dart. And where I am starting... And my super strength super hero holding the motor as it dries. I am planning on box stock with this kit.
