Why do you build model cars?
wgflatliner replied to nboldman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let's see. I build models as a social thing. Sure building models also lowers stress levels as well, but nothing is as fun as building with other people. -
Well I am still putting this off until I finish the Hudson hornet. I'm getting close with it, just gotta clear cost and finish the body before final assembly.

I don't think they have to be in the movie. The reason I say is because of my 55 Mercedes gullwing -

alright here's where i'm at: and engine in place: i need to finish plumbing up the rest of the engine stuff, like the throttle linkage into the firewall and also the fuel line from the fuel pump to the tank. soon after will be the front brake lines. -
The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!

Alright so I got the interior pretty much done with the exception of putting stuff in the trunk and making trunk hinges. I will get photos up tomorrow of the progress. -

I am in. Might do two but one is definitely a 1970 dodge coronet super bee. If I do a second it will be a 1/16 1955 Mercedes 300SL gull wing club sport rally version. -

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
started work on the interior i'm opening the trunk so i had to scratch some stuff to hide the empty part of the gas tank and also the rear wall between the trunk and the rear seat. since this is "his" hudson hornet, i need to find some stuff that would fit in the trunk that make sense. -
When is there to many
wgflatliner replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My problem is not within the subject but rather a variation of the question. How many projects are too many? -
thanks everybody. the paint is tamiya TS-56 Briliant Orange.

so this 57 ford is really starting to get on my nerves. after multiple attempts to get things to fit right, the engine simply will not fit, even after hacking up the firewall. so it looks like this is going to be a curb side.

I have done the toned down version of the Nurburgring Edition of the Lexus LFA. I have been asked to participate in an "out of the box" build contest, and everybody was suggesting for me to get this done. I've been wanting to get it done, and now it is! There was a little mishap with the rear right mesh. it somehow got messed up, so i'll just consider it battle damage after "hitting a rock" or something. hehe. anyways, here's the pics i got from my 16th century camera. enjoy!

A MOST POST-APOCALYPSE 2012 TO YOU TOO
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
if i don't have to START in January then count me in. i'll make sure to have it finished by the deadline. now i have to find a subject. hmm. -
August 2013 is going to be the IPMS Nationals held in Colorado. The reason i'm posting this is because a lot of people know (or at least NOW know) that IPMS seems to be mostly military themed models. Personally i want to see a year where the cars, trucks, vans and other vehicles outnumber the armor and aircraft! Another reason i am posting this: i know a lot of people here have tremendous skill, and i want to see that skill in person, plus it would be cool to meet some folks in person as well. oh yeah - there is a theme behind this Nationals Convention. It'll be the 50th anniversary of IPMS which started in the UK, so we're going to have a theme based contest outside of the other normal contests. things that were made in 1963, companies founded in 1963, etc. The other reason it's in Colorado is because Colorado is "The Centennial State" and the members of the Centennial chapter of IPMS is hosting it. i have been trying to find companies that were founded in 1963, and have found Lamborghini and McLaren. This gives some of us the option of building a McLaren F1 indy car! I know i'm going to! anyways, i'd love to see y'all come out to colorado and talk plastic. thanks again and happy holidays!

A MOST POST-APOCALYPSE 2012 TO YOU TOO
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i'd be in if i didn't have 5 other WIP's to finish. one is almost done though, but either way i don't think i'll get the others done in time to start this CBP in january. sorry doc! -
my worst thus far: 1) Trumpeter 60 pontiac bonneville. over engineered and a pain in the butt to build. chrome where there shouldn't be chrome (exhaust for example). 2) Revell 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429. It was going together well, but if you follow the directions (i know, who does that, right??), you won't be able to properly get the rear panel with the tail lights in without breaking something. 3) Aoshima Veilside RX-7. it doesn't fit well, and there's wheel gap issues. In fact, Aoshima typically lacks on quality and they're extremely over priced for what you get, or in some cases - don't get. 4) Most anything from AMT is garbage. My favorites: 1) Tamiya, by far. i've never had a fitment issue or anything with Tamiya kits. 2) Fujimi kits, mostly the enthusiast series because they can get 250+ parts and MAKE THEM FIT into the kit. if you haven't tried to build an enthusiast Fujimi kit, by all means give it a shot. 3) I would say i like Revell/Monogram for the vast amount of American vehicles, and i believe all of them come with decent detail out of the box. 4) WE CANNOT FORGET MOEBIUS!! they came out with an awesome kit and i cannot wait to see more from them. i'm on the fence with Lindberg. Some of their stuff is good, some of it is bad. i like the impalas and since Revell doesn't have a 61, that leaves me with lindberg.

5 model cars or trucks you wish were made.
wgflatliner replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1) 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS with full engine and transmission detail. (and i don't want to alter a geo storm promo) 2) Ford Shogun with full detail 3) Ford RS200 Group B with full detail 4) 1980s Cadillac Coupe DeVille (or any 80s caddies for that matter) 5) McLaren F1 GTR (not diecast and full detail) - i would prefer Fujimi to make an enthusiast series of this car.. that'd be sweet! -
was at an IPMS christmas party tonight. Came home with an AMT 1960 corvette, a set of flexafiles, and a $25 gift card to a hobby store that i always frequent.

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
i'm glad this is a group build or i'd completely overlook some of the amazing detail that others have captured.. like those wheel logos and valve stems. i didn't even THINK about painting them... looks good niko! -
Most Expensive Car Crash Ever?
wgflatliner replied to Nate's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The guys/hippies on the Prius forums must be proud of their cars. Group of exotic cars. 3.8 million. Toyota Prius. Roughly 23k. 23k Prius taking out 3.8 million worth of exotic cars unscathed. Priceless. -
To me painting is an art within itself. Painting the backs of pedals? Yep. Painting under seats? Yep. It gives me an even surface across the floor so the seats don't look like they're sinking in flocking material once assembled. Painting the inside of the body? Yeah because it does stop the translucent look to the paint job. Painting the inside of the motor? Uhhhh no. I try to paint everything though because I compete and would not be happy with myself If I lost over something stupid and completely in my control.
