  1. Body painted Tamiya "Brilliant Orange" TS-56, and will have classic black for the black parts of the car. i did my research and the Nurburgring Edition has a pearl coat in the paint, so i will be applying that as well. The wheels are alclad gloss black base. The engine is 100% alclad with the exception of the flat black serpentine belt and small touch up spots. The rest of the chassis is alclad with the exception of the muffler which is enamel chrome silver airbrushed on. Block and majority of the base colors are aluminum, valve covers the gloss black base, copper for some parts on the transmission bits and rear gear box.. the shading and such is all a combination of the alclad hot metals (sepia, blue, red) and clear yellow, and a very light wash of metalizers magnesium to give the molds some depth. enjoy! more pics coming soon
  2. This is going to be my rendition of the Lexus LFA, Nurburgring Edition. I plan on doing this version: The only difference between this car and what i plan on doing, is having the functional wing as opposed to the fixed wing, and i will be going with black wheels. I will need to fabricate the front canards (the wing things on the front corners of the bumpers). Pictures of progress coming soon
  3. i really love the staple ideas! thanks everybody for the input on this. i suppose i could make this my project build thread. I can say that i've been dabbling in models for a while now and feel that my skill set is above average, but not perfect because i usually have a deadline. well, the deadline for this build is august of 2013, so that gives me time to take my time! question on the door panels: are the door panels flat like that with no detail? if anybody has any photos that'll help, by all means PLEASE post them!! edit: chris and wayne, thank you SO much for posting the links, that'll help me tremendously.
  4. hey guys, i just started working a bandit resins 66 nova pro mod in 25th scale i got the body work mostly worked out, and i decided on a ross gibson sonny's supermax motor. the front and back bumper areas are in need of some serious clean-up to make look right. this will be my first resin build, and so far it's pretty fun. Engine needs a LOT of work to make fit right, but i'm sure i'll manage. I am looking for advice on a couple things. 1. door panels on the inside (i want to display it with the doors off) and how they attach/detach from the car, plus door jambs, etc 2. product used to fabricate the drag racing style windows/windshield/rear window 3. cannot decide if i want to remove the resin front bumper/grille and use a 66 nova's kit bumper and a PE grille. it'd look better than the resin but is it realistic? or would you just fix up the resin and paint it? would the bumpers be more of a gloss gray as opposed to chrome? would you make it where you can see through the grille or just do a wash? 4. any good resources for photos? 5. is there any website or resource that can show me where fuel lines, brake lines, and all the other goodies would route (wiring, etc)? 6. any other tips or tricks from you guys that might help me make a good model a better model? i do have the yost dvd set, which is helpful, but i'm wanting to go all out on this as it will be my long term project. i do have a decent paint scheme thought up, but will have to see how it pans out. i will have to get the motor and frame mocked up and modify the hood to fit. once that's done then it'll be time for paint. thanks guys.
  5. thx guys
  6. i was going to go 100% on this, but during the bare metal foil process, when i was lifting the excess it lifted paint with it, so at that point i just wanted to get it done. The kit was given to me, but the person that gave it to me robbed anything relating to wheels so i had to find SOMETHING that would work. info on the model: ignition wires fuel lines throttle linkage starter wires all the chrome was stripped and done in alclad chrome dipped the windows in future for the super clear look thanks for looking!
  7. once i get done with my 67 charger i'll join in on this. the charger will be done by the end of the week.
  8. tysm guys
  9. thanks again everybody
  10. yep! it's low AND goes!
  11. thanks guys
  12. Thanks for looking!
  13. I am calling this one done! I spent the last week pulling all nighters to get it done in time for a model contest in Denver. The results paid off! Information on the model: Manufacturer: Revell Name: 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS "Bubbles" Mods/Features: The blue stripes in the hood and trunk have water bubbles airbrushed into them. Scratch built suspension bits (Pics in the workbench area), The front seats are scratch built and the back rests are fish tanks (more pics in the workbench area), kit bashed a corvette engine with the kit transmission. I got the kit done just in time, and with little to no sleep the entire week, and it's first voyage into the contest realm was a success. The contest event coordinator had people watching tables and keeping tallies on how many pictures were taken of the models, and which ones the people were taking pictures of (i don't know WHY they did this but hey.. it's cool to know) and mine was the most photographed model in the contest out of a couple hundred (small venue). I also took best in show and got $100, in which i turned around and.. well.. i bought more models from a vendor. Here's some photos!
  14. i am starting to collect the tamiya 80's cars.. picked up the toyota corolla 2000gtr, the ballade sports crx, and some other stuff. i'll get pics eventually.
  15. fish tank pics. btw, i did take off the ridiculous looking exhaust and re-did it. it's not perfect, but finished is better than perfect. in person they aren't as foggy and you can see through them.
  16. more photos
  17. i know it's been a whlie, but some updates on this. corvette LS something engine yanked from corresponding kit. i removed the trans and added the kit trans to the engine. black with alclad chrome center plenum, then painted the engine covers a color that corresponds with the body. also trying the foam/felt/mirror interior, and fish tanks for seat backs. yes. FISH TANKS. i know i'm a nut, but hey. i'll get progress pics on the second seat. the radiator wall is near complete, just gotta add the battery and a little detail paint. i used the corvette electric fan. the chassis is done in stop light engine red metallic, and poised in 3-wheel motion, scratch built the suspension parts that involve springs and hydraulic shafts. most of the chrome is alclad. I also touched up the paint on the car, and got a couple coats of future applied, sans the hood (which i shall do tomorrow) enjoy!
  18. both door panels done.. up next: seats, then dash, then headliner.
  19. started working on the interior today. for my first attempt at doing an interior like this i like the results so far!
  20. after some consideration and a long debate with myself, i have decided that the flip flop paint on the roof was clashing with the overall color theme of this car. So i painted over it, with a slightly darker base coat and using the same pinks purples and reds with some patterns and a fade. i like the look much better just need to re-do the trim and touch up the sides, and then it'll be ready for some clear!
  21. Let me say this in advance: i don't know squat about airplanes and naming components. All i can do for the most part is associate names to planes. SO.. anyways.. Picked up the 1/48 monogram F-8 Crusader for 5 bucks. I just opened the box today and saw a complete kit plus half of another for spare parts, plus it included all of the resin and photo etch parts! I barely started today, but it's progress none-the-less. Cockpit tub started with a blueish gray airbrushed, then an oil based black followed up with dry brushing silver to give it the worn look. Then i finished up some of the buttons in red and black using reference photos online. Had to fabricate the throttle control. Kit version of the cockpit tub: Resin comparison: and among the side inner walls, there's some photo etch pieces My goal is to try and not get intricately detailed, but to have fun and try something new. I know there's more to detail paint in the cockpit tub, and the inner walls, but i'll take care of it.
  22. The chassis is about 90% done now. It's just a little more touch up paint and then installing the motor and plumbing and wiring it. If some of the pics are fuzzy, that means i'm better at building models than taking pics. Scratch built front hydraulic shafts and springs: Chassis (it's kinda hard to tell i actually carved the frame from the chassis and did it separate, although there are some obvious spots: The Stance: I'll work on it some more tomorrow. I will do the interior after the motor. It's gonna be plush!
  23. looks good mike - might have to try and pick up a set of valve covers from ya!
