Model Cars Magazine #154

And what was Gregg's response to your email?? You left out the most important part. You know, five guys bashed pretty hard in this thread. I'm the only one who investigated the situation (for a valid reason) and posted factual answers to the problem. Over 50 views since my post and nobody has a comment???? That tells me the rough talk was a tactic and some guys just like to make a lot of noise on here without the effort to find a solution to the problem they're BASHING about. Gregg probably wisely refrained from comment, knowing it would just be a shed-load of blather he doesn't need in his life. I'm sure he's aware of any thread on here with the magazine's name in it's title. -

OK my issue hasn't come in today's mail. I began to wonder if there was an error which might not show me as a subscriber. I wouldn't know that if nothing ever comes in the mail and no explanation that there are/will be delays, appears here. So I did something about it. I called Golden Bell. A very nice lady, whose name I neglected to get, told me several things. She took my name and verified my sub and that number 154 was mailed from GBP a week ago Friday. I'm on the east coast so the pigeon must be tired from flying. She said #155 should be mailed in one week, barring any unseen delay. When I asked the source of the delays she said a combination of delays from GBP, the printer and the Editor/Owner.(not Harry) For instance, 154 was at the printers and not discovered there for 2 weeks. But nobody followed-up to verify progress. Obviously, everybody needs to tighten up their act to get this out on a professional basis, to compete with other magazines and publishers. As well as satisfy subscribers (who can be considered 'shareholders') and advertisers. But she did say GBP is striving to catch-up and resume the prescribed schedule. Assuming they get the material to do so. I did not raise the damage issue because I don't think the printer or GBP sends out pre-mutilated stuff. The post office guy said that he felt the USPS equipment is the source of that but, I get no other mags in bad condition and to be fair, my first edition of MCM arrived fine. -
Anyone catch the interview with Andy Green, holder of the LSR at Mach 1 in the Thrust SSC? (Love to see Tamiya do that one in 1/12!) His latest project is to move the LSR record to 1,000 MPH in this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodhound_SSC

Marcos Ambrose, Robbie Gordon or even Jeff Gordon would have been my pick instead of Jimmie Johnson...

The March FSM arrived today. -
If you want the same plating as kits originally have, this is the only way: http://www.chrometechusa.com/modelplate.html There are others I'm sure who provide this service.

No. If I were, I'd have written "Gregg, would you please comment on some of the complaints expressed here?" I'd be a total a$$ to think he has need to be "accountable" on his own Forum. I'm actually hoping he's not layed-up with his major health issue. Harry has made it clear that the delay issue is beyond all his (Harry's) efforts to fix. I just realized that 4 or 5 pages ago, when the major complaint was "the mag is never on time" (not the subsequent MCM vs SA war), if Gregg chose to, he could address those points. I'm sure that Gregg is aware that many here like his print baby and just want a reliable delivery schedule and expanded availability beyond subscription as Harry obviously does.

-Which is why I titled my WIP "Things to watch out for" and posted tips in the threads. I wrote it to help guys and prevent a $200+ loss. And though challenging, the challenge was the fun. Several guys on sites have let this build fade away or fast-built an OOB, inaccurate car. -
Try thin CA brushed on the bare filler, sand smooth and use your regular primer.

Dave, do you anodize your own pieces too? Like the spray bottles and extinguishers? Freaking beautiful.

Sorry pal, my bad.

Midgets galore but you gotta search for the Offys...best I could find including National Speed Sport News: http://www.daararacing.com/index.html Or maybe Garrett can help you with some of their research photos.

I'm calling BS Dave. Iced tea is for golfers-that's HYDRAZINE in that cup!

Dave, Please tell me that nobody that builds as you do drinks out of a pink plastic cup...

This man has the right idea. Forget Webers combined with any type of forced induction. Webers run on NO MORE THAN 3 psi of fuel pressure and you can't blow through them. EFI allows proper fuel pressure for forced applications. Remember a simple looking BBC with dual quads can make 1200HP N/A and 1800 on spray. Sometimes wacky-looking combos make models look toy-like. And Drago-you have a beautiful little man there.

I know you're building this to your own satisfaction but you have significant errors in these pictures. The engine blocks were all black, the heads were raw aluminum (where the PE flanges are)-not gold and the carb choke horn runs across the carb throat not front to rear. Finding web or book reference will be far more help than asking for colors on the instruction sheet. -
Well there's two sides... With '60's era Cobras trading (infrequently) in excess of $300K (small blocks) you will find few being abused like this. Raced, shown, autocrossed-yes. But clown-show, kid-stuff like this is a poor way to preserve the less-than 700 cars that still exist. And driving in a monsoon causes moisture damage that leads to cut and weld repairs to correct. And originals were crappy bare steel in many places. Even with the skinny tires on this one, those spokes bend like pretzels on expensive to replace wheels. My own replica which I built 25 years ago, has been drag raced, open tracked, autocrossed and street driven but NOT used for clown smoke displays. To me the real fun is running 11 second quarter miles and feeling what the car was meant to provide. To watch a 14 second car do donuts is just lame to me. It's missing the point of the car's legend.
