  1. Paint is over the top cool. Great looking model.
  2. Very cool. Great work - followed along.
  3. Yup...I don't know how people do it. The 6.4 isn't real easy on diesel...about 11 mpg on my work truck. A lot of pumps still have auto shut off at $100 too... Here is my work truck engine, just to show how tight things are...
  4. That is a very cool model. Great work. I like the dark wash on the wood - looks mildly weathered/humidity stained.
  5. Very cool. Great paint!
  6. Thanks for comments! Suspension is the lowrider setup with some minor modification for tire clearance and final "look".
  7. I don't think it's thinner. It works decent for me but can get "clumpy" which is a pain with an airbrush. It's really just pre-thinned black enamel, so any enamel will do the job as well.
  8. Riviera is done! I will park it until the start of the race! More UNDER GLASS
  9. I am pretty sure "Cannonballer" is a word... Here is my AMT 1966 Buick Riviera, set up to run the 2014 Cannonball Run (so, I guess it could be Cannonball Runner…). I swapped out the nailhead for an LS9 Corvette engine, used Fireball Modelworks resin wheels and tires (for that 70's look). I tried to keep it looking kind of 70ish but with the modern efficiency... Front seats were swapped with ragin seat and 5 point belts - really the only safety equipment. In order to increase fuel mileage, I replaced the steel bumpers with "aluminum"... Paint is Duplicolor, clear is Deft lacquer... Thanks for looking!
  10. In short, yes. You can use any paint - but it gets tricky when you are looking at compatibility between plastics and multiple coats. There are too many combinations and labeling issues (is this an enamel or acrylic enamel or lacquer or acrylic or...seems like there are a number of names for paints that are close, but have drastic differences) to list here - search the site as best you can. Use a good primer to keep "hot" paints from damaging plastic. I use a lot of duplicolor paints available at most auto parts stores. They have great primers, colors, and clears. I also use Deft lacquer clear from hardware stores. Hobby cans are the most expensive per ounce paint you can buy, really, and other than Tamiya, I don't use them.
  11. Mask with BMF (just apply as normal but remove the foil on the trim) and paint with appropriate color - I like Tamiya semi gloss black acrylic. BMF will pretty much stop any bleed thorugh and is thin so a paint "edge" is less evident.
  12. Thanks Michael. I really like doing exhausts - the tips got a little too much dark due to a drop in air pressure on my compressor, but I like the way the other colors tunred out - they are all Alclad paints too (main exhause is aluminum and the rest is heat stain sepia and blue and smoke). The plug wires are detail master race car ignition wire - which is .016 inch diameter.
  13. Alclad II paints are awesome and very addicting. I use aluminum, dark aluminum, dull aluminum, steel, stainless steel, polished aluminum, chrome, pale burnt metal (good for carbs that are light goldish color)...pretty much all of them. I agree with the posts above, too - mix all the finishes for a convincing look. Here is a model I am working on now: And under: Most of the "metal" parts are Alclad II. This model is actually almost all Alclad II, even the frame: You can't go wrong with any of the colors...
  14. I have had that happen - every time the seller apologized and refunded my money. Hope your situation goes the same way.
  15. Model or 1:1? The model is the same kit - even says "European" on the Revell USA box. In real 1:1 cars? Got me...
  16. Lime green. ...those wheels look cool too...what's up with all the Mini-ficiados attacking!!!
  17. Trying to have the Riviera finished before the weekend... Seats in - interior done. What? Anybody else running a space age FuzzBuster III? Body in black...windows drying...
  18. Here is race wire (only gray I had) on the same engine:
  19. Detail Master standard plug wire is .0125 inches. 7mm plug wire in 1:25 scale is about .011. So that is pretty close for 7 or 8mm stock plug wire. The "race car" ignition wire is .016, or about 10mm in 1:25 world, which is pretty thick spark plug wire.
  20. Nice work on the taillight-always a pet peeve of mine...yours look great.
