1964 Plymouth Belvedere Overhaulin' Style Is Completed
mrmike replied to mrmike's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here's a little progress... For those of you who are not familiar with what I am trying to accomplish, here's a picture of the '64 Fury. I thought I had another can of the Pure White, but I don't. I stopped at my LHS and was going to pick up another can, but changed my mind when I saw the TS-45 Pearl White paint. The Pearl White is not as bright or stark as the Pure White and blends with the TS-75 Champagne Gold better. I started cleaning up the body tonight. Very, very little flash or mold lines! I'll get it washed, primered, and ready for paint! More to come... -
Thanks Erik and Dave! With some luck and a little time, I might be able to finish the GTX tomorrow.

As a fan of Overhaulin', I look forward to the wonderful builds on each episode. The recent episode featuring a '64 Fury inspired me to build the Lindberg '64 Belvedere similar to that Fury. My paint will be Tamiya TS-26 Pure White for the roof and Tamiya TS-75 Champagne Gold for the main body. The wheels used for the Fury are Foose one-offs and Pegasus has a set of Chrome Hellas that look close so I got a set of 19" and 23" Hellas for this build along with disc brakes to match. Since I have this particular episode on my HD DVR, I have my reference material close at hand. More to come...

Save for some touchups and decals, the Hemi is done. More to come...

Thanks Dan! I finished the interior this morning. I mounted the tach on top of the dash instead of on the console. This was a simple little detail that I made by adding a line from the back of the tach and ran it through the speaker grille. Now it's back to finishing the Hemi! More to come...

I got the dash foiled and detailed this morning. A mockup with the chassis, engine, and interior. I still haven't finished the Hemi yet. I'll get back to the Hemi when I have finished the interior which needs the seats foiled, the tach detailed and installed on the console, and the bucket seats installed into the interior. More to come...

Thank you Lee!

Thanks Eric, Carl, and Bob! Now that my Hurst/Olds is done, I can get back to the GTX.
-
Thanks guys! The woodgrain are actually the kit decals and they are rendered very nicely.
-
Thanks guys! Eric, this is a great kit to build! I had no issues with assembly as the parts fit is very good to excellent. I have finished my '72 Hurst/Olds and it is posted in Under Glass. I would like to thank all those who have taken the time to view and to comment on my WIP.

This is my Revell '72 Hurst/Olds painted with Tamiya TS-7 Racing White with a semi-gloss black interior.

Another big step forward...the body, interior, and chassis have been joined together! This Hurst/Olds will be finished today! More to come...

Thanks Shane and Charlie!

A big step forward was taken today! I decaled the body and the hood. I am now considering shooting them with some clear and then on with final assembly. More to come...

Thanks James!

Thanks Nick! I have completed foiling the GTX! Have a look... More to come...

Thanks guys! I am prepping the body for bodywork. These are the sinkmarks that I found in the plastic. More to come...

I got the carbs plumbed and the distributor is installed and will route the plug wires shortly. It was pointed out to me elsewhere that one of the tire treads was backwards. I corrected that and finished the rear suspension. More to come...

This afternoon, I plugged Gabriel Iglesias' DVD Aloha Fluffy into the DVD player and spent an hour and a half foiling and laughing. A truly talented and very funny comedian! More to come...

I painted the body, hood, mirrors, and nose piece this morning. More to come...

A mockup of the engine and the exhaust shows a need for some modifications. A little measuring, some cutting and the exhaust meets up where I want it. While I was at it, I removed the H-pipe so I can spread the pipes apart to meet with the header collectors. Some Testors gloss black enamel and some Alclad II Chrome paint and the exhaust tips are chromed. Work on the Hemi continues. I added the distributor and ran fuel lines. I need to scratch-build a fuel line splitter. I cut off the spindles and moved them up on the front suspension to lower the nose of the car. I painted the shocks with Olds Engine Blue enamel and Stainless Steel metalizer paints. More to come...

After giving the body a very liberal coating of Easy-Off and leaving it alone for a while, I have removed about 98% of the MCW white paint. A little sanding is required to remove the remaining paint and then I can prep and repaint the body. This time I'll be using Tamiya TS-7 Racing White. More to come...

Well, the Hurst/Olds is back on the bench! I have decided to strip the MCW paint and start over again using Tamiya TS-7 Racing White. I have heard of others using MCW white paint and having various issues with that paint and I guess it happened to me as well. I need a new start with this one so I can finish it and get it off the bench.

Thanks Carl! Tonight, I worked on the Hemi. I added the headers, carbs and air cleaner. I am thinking about adding some fuel lines to the carbs from the fuel pump. I drilled out the distributor and added plug wires to it and the coil. I need to find a piece of black wire here in the shop to make boots for the plug wires then I can paint the coil and distributor. I painted other parts and pieces in various shades of black. More to come...

Thanks for the comments guys! Carl, I gave the body a coat of clear and polished it out in preparation for another coat, maybe this weekend. The front wheels and tires stick out beyond the front fenders, requiring some modification to the wheel mounts inside the wheels. First, I shortened the mounts about 1/16th inch. Then I shortened the edge of the rotors by 1/16th inch as indicated here. I assembled the wheels and rotors and install them onto the front suspension and they fit within the front fenders perfectly. More to come...
