  1. Thank you Bruce! I finished the instrument panel this morning by utilizing foil and chrome silver paint. I almost forgot the console mounted tach. A shot of the seats. More to come.....
  2. It started snowing over an hour ago with the first of two storms. The second one is due tomorrow morning. One TV weather report says 20 to 25 inches predicted. I hope I got enough snow off the roof for this!
  3. Thank you, Bob! Based upon what you have posted here, I would venture to say that maybe there was a change in the adhesive on the letters. I do know that when the DBS logo was applied to the rear deck lid, It stayed where I put it due to the glossy smooth surface. This confirms what I thought, the letters will only stick well if the surface is glossy smooth.
  4. Cesar, I used 3/64 Diamond from K & S Engineering Stock no. 02709. Here are a few pictures.
  5. Thank you guys! Other than coping with the metal transfers, I enjoyed building this kit. Final assembly was easy and I had no problems with fit issues. I would recommend this kit for only an experienced builder.
  6. The Story The following morning, Mr. Allen goes down to the hotel parking garage only to find two men leaning against both sides of his Aston. The man leaning against the drivers door asks if he is the owner. "Yes, I am and get your sweaty butts of my car!" The man says to give him the keys and shows a gun tucked inside his waistband of his trousers. With a lightning move of his hand, Mr. Allen hits the man in the stomach with his cane as the other man comes running around from the passenger side of the car only to receive a sharp, painful whack in the head with the other end of the cane. Mr. Allen picks up the first man by his shirt and pulls the gun from his pants and points the barrel into the man's neck and says, "You are to leave this place and never return. If I every see you again, even from a distance, you will be so very, very sorry that you ever saw my face!" He throws the man down to the pavement, dismantles the gun and leaves the parts on the ground. He gets into the Aston, fires up the V-12, selects a gear and drives out into the Miami sunlight and drives away. The Build My Aston Martin DBS is complete and posted in Under Glass! I would like to thank all those who took the time to look at and to comment on this build.
  7. This is my Tamiya Aston Martin DBS painted with Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf with a gray interior and built box stock.
  8. I like what I see here Cesar! The wheels look good! I opened up the grille on my Magnum and added a piece of photoetch behind it. I'm looking forward to more!
  9. Thanks Charlie! The Story Mr. Allen checks into the Hilton and asks about any nearby clothiers and he is directed to several that are nearby. He returns to his suite at the hotel after making a few purchases and shortly thereafter the sales manager shows up with the Aston. Paperwork is signed and the keys are handed over to its new owner. The salesmanager is driven back to the dealership and he tells the master spy that he had to fire the salesman that he had talked to originally for holding the DBS without proper paperwork or a deposit. With the salesmanager dropped off at the dealership, Mr. Allen takes a short drive in the Aston to discover it's abilities and he smiles all the time driving this magnificent machine. The Build I applied three coats of clear to the front bumper, polished it, and started assembling the photoetch grilles and front spoilers. Looking good! More to come.....
  10. I had a chance to sit down this morning and work, uninterrupted, oin the interior of the Coronet. This was a lot of tedious foiling which included the trim on the bucket seats! I finished the 440 CID engine. More to come.....
  11. RESEARCH!!!!! Do you research before you begin! Make sure that you have everything you need before you start and take your time and work carefully. Keep pictures of the 1:1 handy for reference. Good luck!
  12. That's pretty much it! That and the small stuff like rear view mirrors, wipers, and logos. Maybe I'll finish it this weekend...and the story, too.
  13. The Story Mr. Allen hands a bank check over to the salesmanager who inspects the check and announces that it is good. He calls the service department to remove the DBS from the showroom and prep it for delivery. The master spy decides to wait for the car and is shown to the waiting area and is made comfortable with a beverage and plenty of reading material. He sees the first salesman giving him dirty looks and he doesn't care since he has gotten what he wanted. The salesmanager comes into the waiting area and tells him that there is a problem with the DBS and delivery will take an additional hour and a half. The master spy requests a ride to the Hilton Miami and the salesmanager says that he can deliver the DBS to him there. Mr. Allen says that would be an excellent idea. The Build The front bumper is finally out of the purple pond. A through cleaning and prep and a good coat of primer. One coat of Tamiya Silver Leaf and the bumper is looking good. Let's hope my luck holds! More to come.....
  14. Thanks Charlie! You are not the first nor will you be the last person to suggest publishing my stories to me. Writing these short stories is more for myself than anything else as I am trying to find new and creative ways for my builds. Being my own worst critic, I think these stories would need major reworking for publication. I have a friend who is writing a novel based on a script that he wrote and he is having a bit of a difficult time trying to get it published. He does seem to be making some headway with it and he has my support and encouragement. He is somewhat of an influence for me in writing stories. BTW, I had to look up Continental Ops, as I had no idea of what you were referring to. This goes all the way back to the 1920's and Dashell Hammett! WOW!
  15. Thank you juergen! Here's some more pictures... Work has started on the 440 CID engine. I have decided to replace the kit shifter with the shifter from the '69 Charger. More to come.....
  16. The more people I meet, the more I like my dog!
  17. I got the chassis primered and oversprayed. I masked the seats and sprayed the floor and the rear shelf matt black. I polished the body and hood. Shiny! I still might clearcoat the body and hood. More to come.....
  18. Thank you guys! The Story The flight to Miami was quiet and uneventful and getting out of the airport was really easy...no luggage! It's very easy to move when you have nothing to take with you. He hails a cab and announces to the driver to take him to an Aston Martin dealer in Coral Gables. Upon arriving at the dealer, he goes inside and starts to look around at the various makes the dealer has to offer including Aston Martin. He spies a DBS sitting in the center of the showroom and goes over to look at it. A salesman comes over to help him and the master spy says, "I am interested in this car." "I'm sorry sir, but this car is not available for purchase," and walks away. He continues to walk around the showroom and walks past an office near the back and he hears,"Is someone helping you?" It is the salesmanager. "Is that Aston DBS for sale?" " Yes, it is." "Great, I want to purchase it and I can pay cash!" The Build The headlights are assembled and installed. The hood vents are installed. It is starting to look like an Aston Martin! The front bumper is still in the purple pond. More to come.....
  19. I have two questions for you. 1. Where did you purchase your foil? 2. How clean is the surface that you are applying foil to? I purchase my foil directly from BMF themselves. You take a chance with foil purchased in a hobby shop. Did they rotate their stock when they got new foil in? The age of the foil can be a factor. If the surface you are applying foil to has been waxed, is dusty, or has finger print oil on it, the foil will not stick. The surface must be completely clean for proper adhesion.
  20. I intentionally limited the story for the build even though I am still writing the story and will continue adding to the story as I am not done with it yet. I have so much to tell (make up? ) and I cannot add it all here for this is a model car web site and not a story telling site. This is why i purposely keep the story short. The Story His decision to retire was quick and immediate. The Department gave him a very generous severance and retirement package and he made plans to leave DC. At the airport, he paid with his credit card for one ticket on 3 different airlines each for 3 different locations, went through the check in process at each gate and went back and purchased a fourth ticket and paid cash for it. The fourth ticket was to Miami, Florida, but that was not his final destination. He had an idea of where he wanted to go, and his aching hip couldn't wait to go! The Build More progress for today. I foiled the back of the deck lid and then I installed the taillights. And then I installed the rear diffuser. I added the side vents. More to come.....
  21. Well, maybe 1 1/2 thumbs. I'm not done with it yet!
  22. Thanks guys! Charlie, that is not a Corona bottle. It's a Bud Select bottle and I should replace it with a Bud Light Lime bottle.
  23. Thanks for the clarification, Rob! This morning I got the wheels, body, and hood painted. The chassis is next. The engine and transmission have been painted and glued together along with the carb. More to come.....
  24. Thank you guys! I appreciate the replies and at this point, all body work is complete save for the front bumper which is giving me fits! I messed up the paint on the bumper and it is in the Purple Pond taking a bath. I will repaint the bumper later this week and hopefully I can repaint it without the bumper falling to the bottom of my paint booth! That reminds me, time to clean out the paint booth! The Story The master spy awaits in his car for the Police to show up and when they do arrive, he starts the car and quietly leaves. Mr. Allen returns to the Department and at Jason's request, he writes up a report on his activities. He then returns to his cubical to continue processing field reports. He starts to think about his activities that day and wonders how much longer he can do this kind of work. Thoughts of retirement fill his mind and he concludes that it is time to retire to someplace warm and sunny. Away from the cold of Washington, DC. The Build I have finished the interior. I glued the interior to the chassis. After looking over the instructions again, I broke out the BMF and foiled the side window moldings. More to come.....
  25. I added a black wash to the center caps and lug nuts. With the clear coat dry, I polished the body and hood with Meguiars Scratch X. Shiney! More to come.....
