  1. What a beautiful ride. Everybody jump in and we'll go to my place and spin some platters!!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this kit when I was doing my Mazmanian Altered Wheel Base. Scripts look great as does the rest of the BMF. Niiiiice
  2. Thanx for the accolades. Just for that, here's more. Three coats of Krylon Crystal Clear. Oooooooo, shiny. Installed the parachute release. Ignore the shiny on the underbody. I had just used super glue on the release, then hit it with insta-set. Also made a brace for the back frame to stabilize the body mount. Next is to chrome the bumpers and install the chutes and spoilers. That oughta git 'er done.
  3. Love this and the Duster. Welcome to the board.
  4. Got to give a shout out to SMBC for an amazing decal sheet. I've got 45 years of decaling experience and in all of that time, this has been the easiest application EVAH, and a pure joy to work with. I took the precaution of applying a coat of clear for my own peace of mind, but I'm not certain if it was needed. Also, for those of you who thought to themselves, "Hmmmm, I wonder how he narrowed a rollcage on a finished chassis?" The answer is simple really. I just whipped out my trusty Dremel tool, slapped in a cutting wheel, then made a slice on the outside of the upper braces over the helmet. Once that was glued and wired together, I let it sit overnite, then cleaned up the joints and re-painted. For those of you who did not ask yourselves that question, please enjoy the pics.
  5. Since I'm doing a comeback of sorts, this will familiarize you with my stuff.
  6. Hiya Mike. You knew I'd turn up again, right? Thanx All. Got paint applied and made a dual chute release, weathered the chutes, painted the tin. Decals next.
  7. The easiest is often times the best. The sponge worked to perfection. And so you know, the truth of how real the engine looks set in when I thought to myself, "Is he gonna cut out the center for valve train clearance? Oh yeah, no valve train." I think by now we all know how my mind functions. It ain't pretty, but it's mine. Great work Chris.
  8. Once upon a time, there was a model I built in this topic http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50592&hl=%2Btopless+%2Bterror. Unfortunately, I did a poor job of covering the roof cavity plus displaying it near a window. In the Sun. In Las Vegas. The body warped and the paint cracked and Joe was a very sad boy. Then one day I bought a set of Flying Dutchman decals from SMBC. Next, I hacked the roof off of a Chi-Town Hustler body and commenced to whittlin' and a whoopin' on it. This time I covered the body from stem to stern with thicker plastic. Frame wise, I narrowed the roll cage and replaced the headers. The car I'm liberally duplicating had a white roof and headers. The green air scoop in the first pic is the color. Tamiya TS-20 Metallic Green. Here's where I am to date. Hopefully more this weekend.
  9. The repair at the back where it broke, now looks like it was designed that way. Excellent execution. Glad the pooch is okay.
  10. I had my doubts for about 3.25 seconds. After that, all I could think was, "NAILED IT !!!"
  11. Rifling through decal collection....There's gotta be some Pisano & Matsubara decals in here somewhere........(Quickly passes by Jungle Jim decals).
  12. Gotta hate it when the puppy is hurtin'. Haven't reared my head up in a while, but I've been watching progress Chris. Actually, checking on your build is a daily habit. Incredible progress. We're all itching for you to get on the engine as much as you are. Can't wait to see it all gussied up with plumbing and details, sitting between the frame rails. When it's contest ready have you considered putting a 6" X 18" sponge down in front of any display you'll be using? Or you could have people put on a chin strap before viewing to keep their mouths closed. We all know that day is coming.
  13. See everybody? This is what we all strive to achieve. What a joy to watch something like this take life. Sigh I hope this is the emoticon for jealous, cuz, well, you know.......
  14. NHRA ..... Empowering Women for over Fifty years. Big fan of Girl Power. Excellent builds John. Made my day.
  15. Thanx for checking in Bob. By sheer coincidence, I'm about to make a comeback. However, I'll start by finishing a project I'm on now, then back to this beast. A while back ago I built a topless funny car. I should have used thicker plastic to cover the roof cavity because it warped and the paint cracked. Too close to a window. Now it's getting a topless Charger body and will carry the Flying Dutchman colors. I'll start a new topic on it shortly. I'm seriously jazzed about getting back on the QuarterMaster too.
  16. Love a wheelstander and great execution on working outside of your comfort zone on the fade.
  17. Keeping in mind YOU said "Insane", I hope that means all builds inspired by Ed "Big Daddy" Roth are on the table. It's one of my oldies, but I'm feelin' nostalgic.
  18. Third guess is a charm. Rear traction bars / ladders. Or steering linkage from steering wheel to front steering. Or a jig. Possibly a thinga ma jig. Does it have anything to do with building stuff?
  19. I'm going to cheat and take 2 guesses. I'm old, so it's okay. Can't remember if you started on either the wheelie bars or the body prop. If I'm right, then you get 2 choices. You can give me a cookie or a brownie.
  20. Hi John I know it's early in the build, but happened to notice the difference in sponsors and number placement between the museum piece and the one on the flats. Have you decided which version you're doing? My vote is for the one with the Garlits rat on the nose. Looking good man. Looking REALLY good.
  21. This is going to be difficult for me, but I'm going to be serious for a change. You have done so many things right, from the frame to the engine to the tin work, etc. In my mind, the hatch is the "stand out" feature that makes this build truly unique. But I still have to keep an open mind for the details yet to come. Also, look at it this way. In addition to all of the trophies and plagues and, hopefully, "Best Of......" awards it will garner, you'll probably get a "Lifetime Achievement Award" as well. Whew, I did it. I stayed focused and somber the whole way through. So anyway, this Funny Car driver and a Crew Chief walk into a bar......
  22. Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris. I mean really. Chris? I've got 2 words for you. "Over the top!" Three, three words. "Over the top, Man." Four, only four words to describe, "How totally over the top man you have gone with this build." .........10, 11, 12! That's it. I'm done. Rock On Sir, Rock On.
  23. You sir, are a Wild Child. Not a fan of purple either, but it gives it a Barbra Gordon, Yvonne Craig, Batgirl tone with the yellow added in.
