I like it!!! Who made the kit? Don't think I have ever seen one. -
Wow, lots of intricate fit and finish work on this build. I really like the way the chassis and body mods will be cleanly finished and everything flows together nicely. The mock up pic has the perfect stance, mean and nasty looking! Also, neat trick on recessing the brake booster.

Incredible build! Well thought out and executed with incredible detail. Very, very nice.

Man, that thing is TASTY!!!!! -
Marc, do the MV lenses come with the reflective coating already applied on the back or are they just a clear lens? I have heard about them but never seen them, just curious as to what they were and how to use them. Do you have a preferred vendor for these and is there a reference to what size is needed for 1/25 headlights?

Now that's one bright 57! Great job on the build. I love the motor and seeing something unique under the hood.....but I'd hate having to change a rocker arm on that thing...LOL

Very cool! Always nice to see something different.

Paint, decals, clear, polish then BMF is how I usually do mine. Some people have cleared over the BMF but I have never tried that and don't see a need to. Also, I would be cautious using any of the new lacquer clears over decals, test it on a spare part first. I have only used the model master, testors or urethane clear over decals so I'm not sure if any other brands would attack the decal. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this topic. BTW, I think the blue and champagne combo is going to look great and is a nice change from all the red T Bolts we usually see built.

WOW! Talk about taking scratch building to the next level. Seeing this type of work is really inspiring. This site has some very gifted builders and it is great to see all the details of their work shared here. -

UNREAL!!!!! That is simply stunning. An absolutely beautiful build throughout and what great execution to a very worthy subject. -
"BuWicked" .....a slammed Buick wagon

Thanks for the kind words guys! I have another one just like it that will be on the bench at some point, still deciding what to do with it though. I was thinking about opening up the hood and installing a 3.8 Grand National engine & drive train...but who knows. -
Awesome info about the decal process, thanks John! You've given me new hope for my project...LOL

I like the way you're carrying the AMC theme through all areas of this build. Very cool.

I love this build! Great job on the cage and frame bracing. The mock up sure looks tough. What kit did you get the wheels from?

It's almost done but I still need to finish up some minor details on this one and complete the interior. This was a build up that I restified. These screw chassis kits can be fun if your not looking for a super detailed kit. It has a new grille and rear bumper from Modelhaus, rims and tires were from an old Monogram kit and they cover big resin drilled discs. Simple one piece chassis was left as is but clearanced for the tires and lower ride height. Paint is several coats of HOK copper covered with about 7 coats of Kandy RootBeer topped with Standox automotive urethane clear. There is a microflake coat over the copper but it doesn't show well in the pics. Interior is a blend of Model Master Panzer Buff and beige and the fuzzy fur is a mixture of two different browns. A couple of things I tried on this build worked nicely so I wanted to share them. I polished the yellowed and decaled up original kit windows with a 3M headlight polishing kit I bought at WalMart. It's one of those kits meant to remove the haze from modern plastic headlights on real cars. It comes with a 3 nch polishing pad and 3000 grit sanding disc. Chuck it up in a drill and polish away. I did the clear windows and paint with this. I guess you could go nuts with 8000 or 12000 grit paper but I thought the finish was very acceptable using just the 3000 supplied in the kit.If you was the waffle foam polishing pad when you are done it is reusable many times. Also, this kit had terrible definition for the body trim. I applied the BMF and for a clean edge layed down some 3M blue 1/8" tape over it to the outside of where I wanted the mldg to be. I gently dragged the blade against the edge of the blue tape then pulled it up. For the most part it made a nice crisp edge and lifting the blue tape applied over the BMF helped remove the excess. It sure beat trying to use a steady hand for long straight cuts on the car.

That looks awesome! Very believable.

John, this build is truly incredible! The level of accuracy and scale representation of the real truck is simply stunning. BTW, I believe I have a 1969? Hot Rod Magazine annual yearbook that has a feature article on Big Oly from one of the off road races. I would be happy to take a look if you need any more reference items, but I do know it is all black & white. I do have a question (well, a bunch actually) about your decals though. When printing them, what paper did you use and how did you get the white background/outlines for some of the smaller ones such as the Castrol decal, etc.? Basically all the smaller ones over the gold paint. Were these printed on an ALPS printer or did you use a similar sized piece of white decal paper behind the colors as a background for the decals to be placed over? I have been working on some decal designs myself but find I am very limited to color choices because I have no way of printing white. Also, do you save and print your work as an eps file format? Also, CMYK color I assume?

Very nice build. I like the red on red color scheme.

I love the Demon build. Did you use the AMT Duster chassis and interior to complete this? Some side stripes would really wake it up IMO, even without any scoops or wing. The EL5 Butterscotch is definitely a refreshing choice of color as well. One thing I would like to point out about that Bandit body for anyone building one in the future (and please don't take this as criticism to your work, it certainly isn't meant to be) is that the front wheel opening is incorrectly shaped for a Demon. Maybe this is something Bandit could look into changing? You can easily get the correct opening from the 68-69 Darts as well. It looks like they used a Duster body as the master. Demons and Dart Sports had more of a swooping line to them and did not drop straight down as this body does. You can see in the following pic what I am referring too, and its even the same color as your build!

Wonderful job! Many of the early funny car kits look unrealistic regardless of paint and detail, but yours looks incredible. Beautiful job on the paint also.

I really like the way the car looks as a street version. Every one I have seen built was done as a race car. Like Dave said, this really changes to look of the car. I think it really enhances all the lines and the exoticism of the car. Very cool!

Very cool, and even cooler with the hood off!

Yes, lesson learned on this one. Thanks for the comments. I think I'll look into "real" clear from now on too. I'd like to just finish this one as is, but since it is such a unique vehicle the color is really a key part of it. I wouldn't mind as much if it were just a standard version Cutlass, but a Hurst needs to be Cameo White or Ebony black, and this does not look like either. And the difference in color between the body and roof is really making this hard to accept for me. I think it will be back on the shelf for a while and I'll move on to something else, or maybe its time to load up the airbrush with some black paint.
