that is just beautifully, out of control!!!!!!!!! i can't even imagine the patience behind building that assembly. beautiful work, tim!!! -
one step forward...two back. pretty much describes my model building since last time. made some drawings of my wheels. since i had no real wheels to copy i did the best i could with photos. the first wheel i realized what i drew was off. so i revised the drawing and started #2. i managed to reverse a dimension and take the center out of the wheel. so. i finished anyway and i think with some new aluminum slugs i'll have what i want. not everything goes like clock work. holes , radius in the wheel and the scallops at the beadlock are wrong. geez, is there anything right? redid some dimensions and then took the center out. duh!!! BUT, i am happier with the wheel in general. i decided to make the cover on the top loader a carbon cover.....only to find out i made the rotors the wrong diameter. 10" instead of 11". will nothing go right this weekend? last but not least. tim thought i should take a shot of the carbs from the top to show the venturi booster detail. so.....here ya go. blame tim if you don't like them. hehe.

tim, your abilities to "get it" when it comes to machining are amazing. i'm just impressed at your talent BUT, when i think about how small all of this is..............well, i just don't know what to say but.....WOW!!!!!!!!!! p.s. glad i could make you chuckle. i needed some one to vent on. -
tim, big thanks to you. ALWAYS appreciate your comments. looking forward to friday! get ready for a vulcan mind meld!!! hehe. leonard, it's been WAAAY too long my friend. we have to catch up SOON!!!! brian, thanks and stay tuned. going to make a set of weld delta 1 wheels this weekend(ish). brad, thank you for the compliment. really enjoy your work as well! a 1/8 scale model of the '37 is on my bucket list. i hope you all can for give the late(ish) responses. juggling lots "o" stuff right now and time is at a premium. got the rear itself done need to do brakes and wheel studs. hopefully i'll be able to get to the weld delta 1 rear wheels this weekend. rear pieces. rotor with some more detail. axle tube mocked up unit.

holy magnifying, bifocals batman!!!! your "loud" pedal is just beau-ti-ful!!! -
tim, you're too much!!!!! hehe. mike i have afull size bridgeport and a small mill rite as far as knee mills go. i also have a grizzly (chinese) 36" lathe that's be perfect for 15 years. chris, you will be a master at machining. tim, has caught it like the flu and is just kicking butt with his equipment!!! joe, i think i'll wait for the verdict........hehe. had some time in between making headers for the big car. made the rear hubs and rotors. rear mounting plates and pinion support.
-
micheal, thanks, we'll see what happens in the future. ray, i kinda have the same problem.....hehe. chris, always love your phone calls and when that mill arrives.....i can help you over the phone, i'm sure!! bob, thanks much. tyrone, glad to be back, even if it only only to fill in the gaps on the 1:1. joe, that's it.........blame tim. it's ALL his fault. hehe. niko, always good to get your input. thanks. did a little machining tonight on the rear mounting plates. i'll finish tomorrow and gets some pics. thanks!
-
oh, now i get it. i've been giving casting some parts in aluminum some thought. perhaps, when i get a little further down the road on some other projects . looks kinda fun.
-
mike (10 thumbs), glad you found some info. essentially, it is a machinable foam. it is also workable with simple hand tools. not sure what you mean about not bothering to cast it. cast what? mike garland, thanks. hope it is something you enjoy! ray, thanks. i see you're forging new paths yourself.

truck parts, thanks. scott, thanks. shambles, i hope i don't disappoint. tim, well, my friend, you're at fault for this. while i was digging around my files (for you! hehe) i started day dreaming about this build. couldn't resist starting it!!!! kerry, thanks. AZ boy, glad to be back. thanks. michael, the material is renshape (440, i believe). stephen, thanks. i'll post a pic or 2 for you. 58 impala, thanks, nope...cannot do this in 1/25. you'd need to see tim! stephen, here are some pic of my '37.

these are the wheels i intend on using at the present time. fronts. rears.
-
here are the valve covers and cylinder heads. all hand machined. carbon fiber intake. billet holley dominator carbs. made some accelerator pumps and linkage still need to make the pump arms. also made a billet plenum top.

so, my real 1:1 '37 pro street build is getting a little long in the tooth and i really miss building my 1/8 scale cars. i decided to take a break and start a little build off to the side. this will be a top dragster build. the brass tube chassis will be 275" w.b. car (that's 34 and 3/8" in 1/8 scale) hard tail. the unique part of this chassis will be how narrow the rear will be. i'll be shooting for 8"-10" between the rear tires. it will most likely have a half body on it. the power plant will be a totally scratch built sonny leonard headed hemi BB chevy . dual dominators and possibly 2 kits. i'll be scratch building a powerglide trans for this build. actually everything but the strange 9.5" top loader center will be scratch built including the rear wheels which will be weld delta and the fronts will be some weld carbon fiber experimental wheels i saw awhile back. i hope you enjoy. feel free to ask questions or post comments. initial drawing. i started the motor awhile ago but now it has a purpose.the block in progress. belt drive.

unfortunately john, it's not a copy of a sheetmetal manifold. it's billet because it has way more precision designed into it than could ever be achieved in a sheetmetal manifold. the question was posed to you to please explain how, if a plane needs all those rivets to hold it's sheet metal body together (like a sheetmetal manifold needs more bolts). why does a blower still require only 8 bolts to hold it to a sheetmetal blower manifold? as far as answering my own question...........i didn't. while i know the answer, i was curious if you did. -

it has everything to do with pressure and area.while thick and sturdy help, the manifold pictured is made entirely from billet. it is not a sheet metal / fabricated intake. how do you explain the sheet metal / fabricated blower manifolds that are produced if that were true? -

tim, i'd say excellent work here but, it's well beyond that point. the correctness of the detail in this scale, is mind boggling and yes, that includes the bolt quantity on the intake. i could try to explain it to you but, it's just easier to post a picture. fantastic work tim!!!!!! -
dwayne, i see lots of OPINIONS here. you may well be able to build a 1/8 scale tube chassis drag car chassis from styrene. i suppose if you can keep ALL of the pieces very lightweight, it's a possibility. i don't suppose the people who are telling you to take this gigantic leap of faith, care to show us their successfully finished 1/8 styrene drag car chassis? pictures of these cars would be a huge help to dwayne, i'm sure. for me, it's a chance i'm NOT willing to take. i have found that some of these aftermarket lightweight pieces can be inaccurate and / or expensive. that's IF they're selling what you actually want. i make my own stuff. it can be quite heavy, thus making a styrene chassis not an option. for instance i weighed the sonny leonard chevy hemi i did not to long ago. no oil pan, no oil system, no headers. it weighed 12 oz. resin block, renshape heads, aluminum valve covers. my 36x17x16 rear slicks (solid neoprene because, no one makes them) with the aluminum wheels weigh in at over 20 oz....each. so,.......i will stick to my "the safe thing to do is build it from brass dwayne." comment. i'll be happy to show you recent pics of my 1/8 scale tube chassis cars. still standing, not sagging or broken.

chris, you continue to raise the "self improvement bar" to new heights. i just hope "we" can keep up!!! hehe. awesome work!! by the way you should get those throttle linkages done in 1/8 while you're at it. i foresee a need for them. -

tim, your work ALWAYS impress's the heck out of me. i know how difficult this is in 1/8....... i can't get over you accomplish it in 1/25. BRAVO!!! -
thank you tim. i appreciate the props. dwayne, nice trailer. i agree with tim. very well execution on the trailer. as far as wheels and tires go have you looked at traxxis wheels for the force funny cars? there is a plastic set and an aluminum set. in the world of 1/8 parts, it doesn't get much cheaper.
