  1. of course they are models, but that is not really the issue. I mean there are models and then there are MODELS!!! and most fall some where in between. The issue is are they serious models,They are better models than your typical Palmer 39 cent model but considerably lesser than say a scratch built Gerald wingrove master piece. In the end does it matter? Build what you like and have fun.
  2. I'm not going to do much to it, just clean it, replace a few missing or damaged parts and buff out a few scuffs. Basicly I'm going to treat it as if the original builder had found it and wanted to repair it. if anything it's much too nice a model to be left in neglect.
  3. I found this model as build-up at the Foothills Fall Classic Model show in Morganton NC last weekend. It was offered to me for $5.00 and I simply took a quick look and figured it was worth it so I picked it up. It wasn't until I got home that I found out what a prize I had. The car was obviously built from an early issue of the AMT 289 Cobra judging from the Tires, wheels and decals. In addition to it's age it was apperently built by a very talented builder. It was clean build and has very well done fender flares, and a fully wired engine compartment (Using waxed thread for ingition wires.) I plan to simply freashen it up with almost no disassembly. I Have a parts kit with the correct wheels and chrome for this issue, I'll do a few new parts finished to look like the old ones, and beyond that I will try to buff off a couple of bits of overspray and a few scuffs it recieved in the last forty years or so. after that I'll give it a coat of wax and an honored spot in my display case. I figure I might bring it as a "display only" item to a few contest as I imagine a few people might be interested in how it used to be done.
  4. Sounds great to me.
  5. This brings back memories for me. I actually sat in that car as a young boy. I was 15 year old when That car ran and used to hang out at Jim's auto parts store in Liverpool NY. He had the car there one day when I was there and he let me sit in it. I Really miss Jim a lot.
  6. I'll tell ya where you can put that post...
  7. I always thought that the "rants and raves" section was almost asking for trouble. Most of the acceptable content would fit just as well in either the general catagory (general compliments or complaints about the model manufacturers and the hobby in general) and the new kit reviews, (compliments and complaints about specific kits.) Removing a general rants and raves section, removes any implication that there is a "whine about hurt feelings" or "attack a fellow modeler" section. Perhaps this change will bring about a kinder gentler forum, where the primary focus is on the models and the hobby in general. It's like I say at work when drama ensues, "Come to work. Do your work, Go home. Rinse. Repeat." everything else is a distraction.
  8. That's coming along nicely. I love the color.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't both the 1/12 57 Chevy and the 1/12 Camaro pictured get magazine coverage? they look very familiar.
  10. I say we just post our progress with the kit name with forgotten build after it, ex. Revell Shelby series one - Forgotten Build. That way we can all follow along.
  11. April is the new deadline, I look foward to seeing all the builds..
  12. April sounds good to me.
  13. Since I suggested it, I think I'll set the criteria, which will be very loose because i just want us to have some fun. Build any model that you think is a really good kit, that for the most part gets ignored. build it any way you want, and have fun. How's that for a rule?
  14. feel free to suggest other kits for the list as this is just an informal thing I'm suggesting. I'd just like to see a build that gets some of these "I'll Build them someday" kits built.
  15. Yeah, that is what I'm talking about. Those are good kits and I have yet to see one built.
  16. I was thinking it would be fun yo do a build off of great kits that you rarely if ever see built up. Just off the top of my head this list comes to mind... AMT S/10 GMS Sonoma, Blazer $ Jimmy Kits AMT 97 Ford Explorer AMT 67 Impala SS Revell 67 Corvette Coupe and Roadster Monogram 1964 GTO Revell 1966 GTO Revell Shelby Series one Revell 1955 Chevy Convertible there are many more and I'm sure we all already have a few in our collections. Why don't we all pick one and build it by the end of the year?
  17. You are right I forgot about the Cutlass, But I was under the impression that the 62 was based on the 63 impala kit, Though I haven't had a chance to look at one. That is one I have on must must get list
  18. A couple of observations; Correct me if I'm wrong but these are actually the first all new tool models from Revell since the Hobbico take over (aside from the Revell of germany kits, and the 69 nova which I understand was in progress at the time of the takeover) Perhaps this is the new standard we can expect from the new Revell. also, did you ever notice that when Revell/Monogram does a new series of race car kits they set the standard for that genre? Look at the Monogram Stock cars and Prostock cars from 1982 -83, the Sprint cars, the indy cars from the 80's -90s, the 80's imsa mustangs and mustang gtp, the Trans am mustangs and camaros, the ASA short track stock cars, etc. That said can you imagine what could be done if they decided to do a series of Front engine dragsters to the same standard as the midgets?
  19. This is my ride, a 2008 Jeep patriot, and I love it. It gets about 22-25 MPG around town and 35mpg on the highway. 0-60 in 9sec. and has 4wd, CVT, Traction control, stability control, variable valve timing similar to the Honda Vtec. It has served me well and has over 60k miles on it already. My other ride which get a lot less use, but also has treated me well, is my 1991 Dodge Dakota
  20. You mean the other post in resin, that started as a simple product annoucement that got flamed and then locked? yeah if certain people had allowed that to stay on topic and not hi-jack it for their personal agendas we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Like I said let's keep the Resin thread to what I assume it's intended purpose is,to inform modelers what's available in resin, and take the nasty stuff to rants and raves so it can be ignored, locked, deleted or debated as the mods see fit.
  21. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Where in this thread were you even mentioned much less accused of anything? please put your comments in the thread where you were accused or start your own elsewhere.
  22. Yes you are allowed to voice your opinions. But there is a place for them called Rants and Raves. If you feel you need to vent about something you can start a thread there, and I can ignore it if I want to. The resin thread is for reviews and annoucements about resin cast Items and such. It's just like the issue I had with the "post your builds" hi-jacking. it started out as a rant and someone decided that that was a good place to have people post thier finished models even though we had a perfectly good Forum section for it.
  23. The Problem is there are just some people who have an axe to grind, whether it is against Reliable resin or some other company. There are those here who bash nascar, revell, AFX/N Arrowhead etc. any chance they get because for one reason or another they can't get over some disappointment they had with them. In the case of reliable resin it seems that just a simple product annoucement is enough to bring out the usual suspects looking to do him in. they hijack the thread with some off topic complaint and usually at least one attempted character assasination. It's time for those people to either deal with it or move on. I'm sick of hearing "blah blah blah shipping time" "blah blah blah ebay" or "Blah blah blah Don was a meanie on the phone". Buy from him or don't buy from him, I don't care. If you have a legitimate complaint with a vendor try to resolve it with him. if it can't get resolved get over it or start a new thread that the mods can delete or lock so you can make a fool of yourselves somewhere I can easily ignore it.
  24. I have to say here that there are no limitations to what you can do, provided to have the will and and the skill and are willing to go out on a limb and try something different. Over the years I've built a bunch of models but the one that most people remember is this one... What a lot of people don't know is that it was built out of junk. just a bunch of parts I had leftover from other projects. here are some pictures of the in progress shots to illustrate my point. the only aftermarket parts are the wheels, and some photoetch left over from another project. The wheels and the paint cost more than the rest of the model. I simply cut glued and sanded until it looked the way I wanted. I have maybe $25 dollars in the project.
  25. A sprint car won't do it the car has an engine out of an army tank, and wheels and tires from an 18 wheeler. this is one huge car.
