oh,,,now that is nice! i wasnt familiar with this buick model for this year...i wonder how rare they are the find in 1:1 compared to thier chevy cousins. -
i dont know much about bugs, but this has to be my favorite style. I LOVe the paint and wheels...definitely has the look.

Hey! I plan on doing a mild flare job on the front...the way i have it set up now,the front tires will tuck into the fenders as is,with a good turn angle on the wheels...i wanted to keep it close to stock truck wheel width dimensions... As for the a arms,i want to get the king pins in and get some paint on them and then i will post a pic or two...you can look at my link for the 96 chevy build and see the front arms i put on that one..they actually came out better... Here is a pic from the chevy build.. The end result for this build should be to show a beat up old racer that is now used for prerunning courses...
-
Cool, i liked comming on here this morning to post some bench shots of my high riding ford, and then see your lowrider chevy...i will be looking forward to more pics... I really want to dig my 99 silverado out at some point.. my plan is to build it as a hauler for another chevy desert racer.i want to do some mild suspension mods and put some mild offroad tires on it...maybe a light duty, road legal prerunner type deal... anyway, keep the pics comming...

the coil overs were made from some items i had around the house(i am cheap) the main body was made from an old tv antennea tube(didnt have the correct size evergreen tube on hand at the time, and i was in a hurry) The shafts were made from larger diameter sewing needles with the internal guides bieng evergreen . spring cups and upper spring retainers were made from evergreen and finally the sprins i had on hand, but can be found at ace hardware..they were painted with R/C lacquer.. I cheated on the spring compression..I couldnt find a spring both stiff enough to hold its shape under the weight of the truck, and springy enough to allow for full shock extension,so this is what i did.. The top spring retainer at the top of the shock body was not glued into position, allowing for it to move up and down on the shock body...it is cheating, but it was a simple fix to the problem of getting full travel.. here is a shock in the early stage of construction.. here is also a link to the build up...shows the beggining of the build to the end.. http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f271/mhadman101/?start=0

my neighbor has one sitting out in back of his garage...body is in VGc and he starts it up on accasion just to keep it running...pulls it in for winter, but it drives me nuts that it just sits there most of the time not bieng brought back to original condition...great project you have going on.

here is something i started earlier this year and am getting back to after a 9 month modeling slump. this started life as a bigfoot truck that i snagged at a garage sale for 2 bucks.. Wheels are homemade, and i need to thin down the bead lock rings a bit and add bolt heads.. frame and rear fenders were shortened to 6 feet and fenders are about 1/2 way from getting a completed flare job.wheels and tires will tuck in to the front and rear. original kit front wheel openings were filled in with evergreen sheet in the front bottom area below the doors... firewall was modified to allow upward wheel travel..suspension both front and rear will be functional. A arms are mounted and i need to make king pins and steering linkage.. Working on the pilot cage which will be tied into the rear ,engine cage...still a long way to go..

that is looking great!!! i LOVE this kit.. Still has my vote for best new mold in the past 8 years...GREAT kit.. i like what your doing with it..you did a nice job on the rear framework also..keep it up! or should i saty down? lol

i really look forward to seeing this done..it is just a cool looking car...
-
i always look forward to your work..you always seem to build projects that hit on my taste in builds. i bet if there is one guy that could do an idea i have for this build,it is you.. how about a nice sized buck laid out over the hood? Love this build.
-
for some reason,i really love the look of a one peice flip up front...i really like what your doing here..
-
That is a beautiful car...you ought to be proud..i really hope you have a great, safe and very visible area to display this!
-
i like the wheels,i would just black wash the rescessed areas to make them stand out more...
-
WHOA! how are you going to bounce through the desert in that!!?? lol I like it..love the paint!I might blackwash the wheels to tone em down a bit,but the bug is cool...
-
There is some seriously cool stuff going on in this album.i wish i had had the time to do what i wanted.looks like you all really raised the bar for this contest.Great work all around!!!
-
Brian, you ought to see the chassis these guys like Jake and dave, and doug come up with...they scratch build 80% or more of the builds you see...Thats why i love these off roaders...
-
First off,Hey JAKE...You guys will love Jakes work...awesome buildier and Caster!!! 2ndly,Brian and the rest off his goofy buddies have taken this battery story and ran away with it.. to clarify, there was a ground wire running from the Tach that was pinched under the Battery when i put a new one in...It took months for the insulation to finally wear away, and when it did,i started seeing the electrical system glitch when running.problem solved ,end of story.

A pair of Fords
mhadman replied to Aaronw's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hey, I am working(off and on)with a figure kit from Revell(firefighters circa 1940's-50's?)that was sold in Germany.I am having to heavily modify the clothes and such, but with work, you can do alot with them..the kit comes with German SS style helmets(i modified mine into a baseball cap, still not right in the pic,too big)and it comes with some basic hand tools. here is an example of what i did with one of them.it is supposed to represent Dale Earnhardt Sr.still have work to do with it but you get the idea..anyway...keep posting on your build..i LOVE old trucks!
