Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models
Mooneyzs replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here is another one to add to this thread.... I know this was another one started before I went away to college. I believe it was painted but I had not put the decals on it til 2011. This build was going to basically be build out of the box with the exception of wiring the motor and the after market decals. The chassis is painted as well as the engine painted and assembled. I know it just needs a couple of items done to call it done. Another one I should just button up to add to the shelf -
Bring Out Your Dead... Long Stalled Models

Here is what started out as an AMT '49 Ford kit and this was done probably around 1991 to 1995. I don't remember quite when but it was for a club build back in the day when I was part of the Monterey Bay Scale Auto club before I went away to college in '96. I was never able to finish it up but I got the idea from a '49 Ford Pro Street that I saw on the cover of a Hot Rod Magazine back in the day. The Top has been chopped as well as the body was shortened 1/2". I do have the interior bucket that I will have to pull out and take pics of if anyone is interested. but here is a few pics of it.... Side View: Front View: Another one from the side: Here is a shot of the interior and how I chopped the roof: -

So here is the 1/16th Scale FED after it was painted, I will skip showing the paint process.... Overview; Engine mock-up: Rear Wheels: view from front: Decals Added: Parts Cleared: Current State of the project is that the Body needs to be finished being color sanded and polished. There are a few more parts to finish working on and installing other parts that have been painted way back when as well. I am planning on Redoing the Radius rods as well as the front wire wheels will get swapped out with some Machine Aluminum Specialties Photo etch wire wheel set. I will be pulling this one back out as soon as I finish up my '57 Chevy Step side project I currently have going as a break from my Highly Detailed 1/16th Scale Army Vega F/C -

I will bite and share a few of my stalled projects ..... The first project I am sharing started out as a 1/16th Don Prudhomme FED kit that I started in either 1995 or 1996 I don't remember exactly when but it was before I went away to a 4 year college in '96. The pictures here are showing the state it was in at that point in time but it was stored and these pics were taken back in 2007. This build stalled because I went away to college and has been sitting since.... Here is the Project: Driver Area: Driver area again.... at the time I didn't have any 1/16th scale seat belt hardward so I used a detail master kit to have a harness in it. ... I have purchased a 1/16th scale restraint set up from Charlie at Pro Tech that will get swapped with whats currently in it: Fuel Tank: Front End: Here is the Engine: Another shot of the engine, RB Motion A/N fittings with detail master braided line at the time. I am really thinking of removing the Detail master braided line and changing it with Pro Tech's braided Line: So going forward to April of 2011.... I had pulled it out and painted it around the time I started my 1/16th Army Vega Funny Car build that I have been on for the past 2-1/2 years. I will show pics of the paint and where its at in the next post..... Stay tuned .... -
Richard... Thanks man! I am excited about the progress on this one Dave... Thanks bud... I really like the color combo. the color is a little lighter in person but was trying to shoot for a color close to the real car I took pics of. So I was able to make some more progress on this build today. I was able to get the kick panels made up and the floor painted and flocked.... and here is the results. I started out with making the kick panels from .020" thick styrene and then I covered them with with medical tape for the pattern of the material: I next sprayed primer on them and then painted them with a brownish tan color: Then I painted the interior bucket with the same brownish tan for the base of the flocking material: I then had to lay the kick panel in to see how it looked:

Darryl.... I think you are doing a killer job on is build. I know what you mean on not going back to a smaller scale. 1/16th scale is my favorite for drag racing builds. I love how much easier it is to do detailing on the bigger sizes. I am looking forward to more progress on this.

Dave... Thanks buddy.. Hello Fellas.... well I mixed some paint up this morning and sprayed some parts today. Pretty happy with how they turned out so far. Now I can't wait to get a little more done on this interior and get the body ready for paint. I first painted the seats House of Kolor White base and then sprayed inner coat clear over it afterwards. Next step is to get the decals on the seat for seat material: Had to mock the seat up: Here is the interior bucket, it was first prayed with HOK black base then I sprayed PPG's Toyota Speedway blue over it. I left it just the base with no clear on it: Here is the Dash, It was sprayed with HOK white base first then sprayed HOK inner coat clear. After the inner coat clear was dry I taped the dash off and then sprayed PPG Toyota speedway blue: Here I placed the dash into the interior bucket:

John... thanks my Big Brother!! Oops on calling the gas tank, the air tank ...My bad...lol. I have some "Folk Art" medium gray since I couldn't find the dark gray. is the Umber a "folk art" paint too?? After I finish up my curbside '57 I may have to pull my '32 Rat rod out and tinker on in between working on the funny car. I am sanding the F/C chassis tonight in hopes of maybe getting color on it tomorrow since I was going to be shooting some color on the '57's interior. So stay tuned for tomorrow.... sorry to Hijack your thread . Ok back your beautiful build. I can't wait to see the paint on this one.... -
